  1. Hello and welcome, My advice... follow doctors orders when it comes to the pre-op diet. This is a great time to get a jump start on losing those pounds. It will be over before you know it. A trick that helped me make the pre-op stage was. Protein shake, mix with lots of crushed ice and milk, add 1/2 packet of sugar free pudding powder and mix well. This is great and fills you up to the brim. You also get the feeling that you treated yourself to some delicious ice cream. I loved Vanilla Protein Shake Powder, Milk and sugar free Butterscotch Pudding Powder. The mood lifted and I still lost those 16 lbs before surgery. Good luck.

    Day two at home 6/6/2013

Hi did you get a patch next to one of your ears before surgery? This was supposed to help with nausea. If you accidently touched that patch and then rubbed your eyes you could have vision problems for a little while. Also I am one week out and still struggle with bloating and not being able to go to the bathroom. They told me Milk of Mag but so far no success. Hang in there it really will get better. Another girl on this forum told me about Gas X Strips that you can lay on your tongue and those have helped some. Mostly I walk, walk, and walk some more. Next week you will feel much better.

    Talk me out of it!

Hello there, You are really going to have to do some soul searching and make a list of pros and cons. It's probably not a good idea doing it for the wrong reasons or because other people want you to do it. I do understand what you are going through and you have to find some quiet time to find what you person inside is telling you. Are you fed up with the way you feel? Have you exhausted all other options? What is the relationship to food in your environment ? And do you have a great support network? All these are things you should consider. For me it was a hard decision as well but when I looked at the list of options I had tried and the results I had gotten and all the risks involved of staying the way I am, I had to do it. For myself..... nobody... and nothing else.... because you know.... you are the one that is going to have to life with that decision forever! Good luck!
  4. Hi there, I did go through something similar and let's face it the reason why most of us are doing this is that we have found comfort in food too often and is has become our friend and foe. Something that helped me was a friend saying.... it's not that I can never have food again after the surgery, it's just that when I treat myself it will be small bites of amazing instead of many bites of junk. Maybe this helps....

    Getting scared!

Hello there, I know exactly how you feel and my surgery is coming up this Wednesday. This emotional roller coaster is something we all go through I hear but you know every time I think of turning back something happens , like I see myself in a picture unexpectedly, and I am right back on track. So know that what you are experiencing is NORMAL.
  7. two weeks and 4 days until surgery. I have waited 5 months for this one and now I am getting a little scared.

    Am I The Only One?

Thank you for sharing your story. It's good to hear positive remarks about the surgery from people who have passed their 20's.... I will be visiting this site and this group often... Thanks again, Neuan

My Biggest Fear - I Need Your Advice

Hey everyone, I found your letter very touching as well as all the comments. My biggest fear and I am pre op is, that I might look 10 years older after all the weight is off and that my husband no longer finds me attractive. I would have to say that I am a little afraid of complications and also if I will still be able to enjoy life without my long and close friend "food". I have also not told my friends or children about the surgery because I don't want anyone to try and stop me from doing it. The alternative to the surgery doesn't sound appealing to me either, since I don't want to be fat for the rest of my life however long that may be. I feel older than I am because of all this weight and I just want to be able to break out of this shell I have hidden in far too long. I will be following you guys here because I may need a lot of encouragement as I am getting closer to surgery date. Susanne

    Am I The Only One?

Hi, I am glad I found your little group. I am also 50 and am planning to have the gastric sleeve. My surgery won't be scheduled until May but I am preparing myself mentally as much as possible. Most of the stories I have read are from people much younger than myself and I ask myself about how it will be for a person who is older. Thank your for starting this group.....
