melissa130 got a reaction from jersey_girl_86 in Advice for relationships post-op
Of course you are gonna change dear! all for the good. If you are truly in love with him--- you will not care about attention from other men Therefore - your boyfriend will not need to feel jealous- because you will be showing him he has nothing to worry about and you care deeply for him. I truly believe that relationships that break apart because one party has lost weight were never meant to be.
I have a friend who lost 100 pounds. She looked gorgeous and had a dedicated husband who adored her- even when she was fat. He always encouraged her to get healthy in a loving way. All of a sudden - she gets major attention from men at work and everywhere else they usually went as a couple. These men never even batted an eye at her before. But her husband - proudly stood by her and showed her love and respect. Well she ate it up and couldn't get enough attention- and ended up cheating with a man who gave her an STD. Her and her husband of 12 years - divorced. They have 2 little children. The husband is still a mess. ANd she is alone and miserable- gaining weight and seriously regretting the choices she has made. Sorry for the novel- just felt like sharing a story....

STOP IT - STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!
Promise me (but mostly yourself) that you will weigh no more than once a week. I SAID DO IT!
(The truth is, you don't have enough data to claim you haven't been successful at losing weight. Your snapshot needs to be a minimum of 6* weeks - between August 20 and now is not 6 weeks. If, in a six-week period, you haven't lost a pound or you are gaining weight, then it's time to talk to be concerned.)
(* I learned the 6 week thing at my last visit with one of my surgeons.)

"Only" 13 pounds in 19 DAYS? That's NOTHING to be disappointed about.
Yes, if that great of a success disappoints you, stay off the scale.

I just got my first "you're losing too much weight" comment today. I ran into someone I haven't seen since I was sleeved, she told me how good I looked and told me not to lose anymore weight. I told her I still need to lose at least another 40. She said no just stop now! you're going to look sick! Now I'm 198 @ 5'3 so far from being a healthy weight... which is what I'm aiming for!

I'm 5 weeks post op and my family and I went to Water Country USA today. I was able to walk the whole day and also rode Water slides 7 times, which means I climbed at least 35 flights of stairs! Am I anxious to lose more than 27#? Of course! But even 27# off added lots to my life. I would never have been able to do any of that 27# ago! Oh, and I walked all over Busch Gardens yesterday too!
Oh, and to the person who stole my bathing suit cover up at water country ... Enjoy, and I hope it lasts you a long time! I surely won't be that size next summer and so I have no need for it!

I work with several people that have had it -- and I have stuck to keeping my business private. I tell everybody that I cut out fast food and junk food, cut out carbs, drink lots of Water, and exercise my ass off. All of this is true. I love that I kept it to myself. Because I don't want my food to be inspected every day at lunch and I don't need everybody discussing my decision- as I have heard so many judge the folks I work with that are open about their business.
I love that it is my secret. I still have done all the hard work.

Its still your business and if you dont want to tell people, dont, I have no intention to. Although I have no problem telling people its not something I want to discuss, its not even a discussion I want to begin and I dont want to hear their thoughts or opinions. While I was going through the process I did medifast, and I realized that the results are not very different. The mf diet is about 1000 calories a day and again is very similar to the sleeve. If you are looking for something to tell people you can tell them that you significantly modified your diet and tell them about the medifast program. There is a lot of information about it, and it definitely does work if you stick with it. I dont think you should tell people unless you want to because once you do it is information you cant get back and you have no control over who else it told about it.

You are not doomed. So many people need a bit of help via medication and counseling. I started psych counseling with my pre-surgical eval. I never quit going. I go twice a month and believe that is why I am so successful. Just because you need a little "mental" help - should not disqualify you for surgery. I would recommend getting a second eval done if you are not comfortable with what that person gave you. Not all the "professionals" get it right every time. Good luck.

I really don't get it. Time and again we see these posts of newly sleeved individuals "trying" foods before they've moved to that certain dietary stage. 11 days is a miniscule part of your life. You've opted to have major surgery to improve your health and lose weight. Let it work...but in doing so, please follow your surgeon's advice.
Your stomach is not ready for solid foods...even if you didn't have a reaction after ingesting solids. Your stomach has experienced a major...and I mean major...trauma. Let it rest and recover. You have the rest of your life to eat solids.
I mean this with the best of intentions. Good luck on your journey.

Congratulations on a successful surgery. Please keep in mind that you need to let your stomach heal. It's not all about you being able to tolerate certain foods. Our doctors aren't trying to torture us. They have their reasons for not wanting you to progress a diet faster. Just my two cents, but why risk it? Amy hit it on the head, why risk the integrity of your new sleeve? You can get past this hard part. And if you are determined to continue, call your doctor just to be sure. If you are afraid of what he/she will say, then that should answer your question. I count on this forum for a huge part of my journey, the true medical advise, I chose to leave to the professionals.
    Good luck.

In three months you could be a size 8 or 10. Wait until 2 weeks before the wedding and have it altered by a professional. Most of the bridal stores will insist you do it sooner. But find a privately owned business and make the appointment way ahead of time and explain that you are losing weight and want to wait to have it altered till just before you need to wear it.

I have that F@#$%^! bulge!!! LOL I was a size 24 this past xmas. Today i am in a size 6. Yep - size 6 . Holy **** -right. Well unfortunately--- that bulge is still annoyingly there. I have started a new DVD -- called Ab Assault by Gunnar Peterson. For the next 12 months - I am going to give it everything I got to deflate that area. And then - I am going to consult with a plastic surgeon. If I keep this weight off-- I want my tummy to look good and look good in clothes.

I'm far from an expert on the topic, but I heard somewhere that caffeine can contribute to dehydration. I have 2 cups of coffee a day, but I'm also 5+ months out and drinking tons and tons of Water (like 14-15 cups a day).
