    Surgery In The AM!

I was sooooo nervous too. Almost called the whole thing off the morning of the surgery but I made it through and am so happy 10 weeks on the other side. One of the best things I've ever done. Best of luck to you!!!

    Stomach still sore?

I'm 10 weeks post op and I have no soreness -- I think my soreness was gone by week 3 or 4. I've been working out with my trainer since 4 weeks post op and have had no issues with abs or heavy weights. Guess it's different for everyone, though, but it will definitely get better.

    Warning gross poo question

Yep - I had this as well. Not fun but I just thought about it as totally cleaning out all the gunk in my system. I'm 10 weeks out and have liquidy bm's about half the time. I'm just glad that I continue to have bm's at least once a day (for the most part). The alternative seems worse to me. Good luck -- each day gets better I promise!!! :-)

    A few things

For the first 5 weeks it seemed like I burped non-stop. It slowed down for a couple weeks and now it seems like I'm burping a lot again (I'm 9 weeks post-op today). I hope it subsides but if it's the worst side affect I have, guess I can deal.

    Not Sure I Do This

Agree with Amy. I would just add to make sure you research and select the best possible surgeon. Ask him/her about complication and death rates (I did even though it was a tad awkward). I selected a Center of Excellence Surgeon and have had 0 issues. I think most people have no issues but it's the ones who do who tend to stick out so I understand your concerns. This is the best thing I've ever done and I was terrified going into surgery. Best wishes to you.
  11. CRUD!!! I woke up this morning and can feel that tingling sensation of a cold sore developing on my upper lip. I haven't had one in over a year but used to get them all the time. I have a prescription for Valtrex which usually knocks them right out but not sure if it's ok to take it (I am 6.5 weeks post op) with my new small tummy. Does anyone have experience with this or know the answer? My Dr's office doesn't open for over 2 hours and it's critical to take the medicine as soon as possible to lessen the symptoms of the outbreak. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
  12. I have a belly button incision and one side of it didn't seem to be healing as well as the other side or the other 3 incisions in my abdomen. I just learned that that part of the belly button incision has a stitch that should dissolve soon (the other side and all my other incisions were "glued" shut. It does look different than the rest but not really how you describe. Definitely worth checking out as others have suggested.

    Valtrex for Cold Sore

Thanks all for the great information. A couple of options I've never heard of are the laser and the cream-will look into those. I did end up taking the valtrex but it was too late and the darn thing has erupted but it's not too bad and it's in the corner so it's kinda hidden. Thanks again.

    Tacos

My surgeon classified them as a soft-solid food. I could have them in week four. Flaky white fish was considered a soft food on my plan and I could have it in week three. I had red snapper the beginning of week three and it was like heaven -- probably because it was at a really nice restaurant and the chef prepared it very well. I had no issues with fish (white flaky) and ate it often in weeks three and four. I still enjoy it about once a week but have moved on to other stuff as well now that I'm in week seven. :-)

    **May 31st**

Hello fellow May 31st sleevers! How is everyone doing? How much have you lost? How about NSV's? Any foods you aren't tolerating or any issues? Hope to hear from everyone!!!
  16. I should mention that Dr. Scott is awesome and I thought the staff in the hospital was fantastic. I felt like I was in really good hands. I too was very nervous going into surgery but am so happy I did it now.
  17. 5/31 - Surgery at 8:30, had sleeve, gall bladder removed and liver biopsy. Surgery done at 10am -- I was in a lot of pain when they woke me up but they fixed it within a few minutes. I think I was in my room at 11am and my husband met me there. The surgeon said all went well with the surgery and they did a leak test and all was fine. I was able to eat a small Popsicle, a cube of Jello and some Crystal Light for lunch. For dinner I had a Popsicle and some Crystal Light and got nausea. They gave me some nausea medicine and it went way. Had quite of bit of pain that night so took a liquid pain killer twice that night. Didn't sleep well because of the staff coming and going, the pain and some intermittent nausea. Almost threw up in the night but luckily was able to control it. Walked the halls twice for about 5 minutes and burped ALOT. Not a great day but could have been worse (like day 2). Oh, I also had to go #1 about every 1.5-2 hours because of all the liquids they were pumping into me. This was not pleasant as it was painful to get in and out of bed. The frequency didn't change for the time I was in the hospital but it did get easier to get up and down. Here are the medications they gave me: 1. Pain ball - tubes inside me going to surgery points. Had to carry the darn thing around which was a bit inconvenient but I wouldn't have gone without the pain ball. It had run out when the Dr. took it out Sunday morning. I didn't control the dosage on this -- it was automatic. 2. Liquid pain killer as needed - a liquid cocktail of hydrocodeine and tylenol that I had to take orally. Not great tasting but did the trick. 3. Nausea medicine - inserted through my IV 3. Blood Thinner - shot in my stomach (caused major bruising that took about 2 weeks to go away) 4. Pepcid - inserted through my IV Also had to have massaging sleeves on my calves and oxygen tube in my nose while in bed. Had to do that exhale thing where you lift the ball 10 times each hour I was awake. I think that's it. 6/1 - Couldn't eat without my stomach seizing then tons of gurgling. Was really worried it would be permanent so posted under the Post Op forum and got reassurance from several people that it happened to them and went away. Also talked to nurse and she assured me it was temporary. I was actually really hungry and couldn't eat and was regretting having the surgery. Broke down and cried for a bit but after the support, I was hopeful. At least the pain was reducing and no more nausea. Walked the halls 4 times for 10 minutes each time and still burping all the time. Was able to get much more sleep this night. 6/2 - Woke up feeling a ton better I think in part because I got pretty decent sleep. Was able to do 10 sips of Protein for Breakfast and lunch and lots of sips of Water. No stomach seizing and no nausea - still some gurgling but that is manageable. In the night I had my first toot and had 4 BMs the rest of the day - pretty much all liquid. Walked in the morning for 15 minutes and found out that I was going to get to go home.... yippeee!!! I had some minimal pain (no meds necessary) for about 7-10 days and ran a low grade fever for the first week post surgery. I dealt with alot of fatigue for about the first 4 weeks and burped all the time for the first 5 weeks. I do still get tired after a busy day but who wouldn't on 800-1000 calories a day! Sometime during week 5, I pretty much felt normal again. I can eat everything that has been cleared on the surgeon's "Shopping List" without issue. I can comfortably eat about 6oz - I might be able to do more but don't want to push it. I still haven't thrown up or really had any issues. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm happy to answer anything. Best wishes to you!!!
  18. My Dr. says 6 months so I'll probably wait even though I am a steak lover. Same thing for pork chops or loin. Luckily, fish, chicken and shellfish are all going down easily so I'll stick with those for now. I'm 6 weeks post op today.
  19. Good for you! If you were in his office today, we might have crossed paths as I had a follow-up appointment with him today (6 weeks post op). He was pleased with my results and I'm happy that I've had no issues. Dr. Scott is awesome!!!

    silly question

Typically 1-2 nights depending on your recovery and insurance allowance. I was approved for 1 night by my insurance but my doctor kept me a 2nd night -- glad he did but I was ready to go after that. Good luck with your journey!!!
  21. MizzouGirl

    really?

My insurance company approved me in about a week (CIGNA) so hopefully you will hear soon.

    Two Years Four Months

I am not allowed to take nsaids per my surgeon's office. I will miss my Excedrin Migraine but luckily I haven't had a headache since surgery. My husband is allergic to nsaids so guess it works out for the best.

    Just got the call

I HATED the pre-op liquid diet ---- so hard (at least for me). It's much easier after the surgery as there are so many other distractions and you really don't feel like eating (or drinking). Best wishes to you --- I'm 5.5 weeks out and feel great now!

    Blood in Stool

I unfortunately got my first hemorroid about 2 weeks post surgery. I actually had bad diarrhea for almost 3 weeks post surgery which can cause them too. Not pleasant as it hurt like mad for a few days. All better now but the booger is still kinda there. YUCK! I hope you are ok.

    6 weeks post op...now what?

I would suggest you find the thread regarding My Fitness Pal and sign up and friend the people who have listed their user names. As long as they make their diary viewable by their friends, you will be able to see what others are eating. It's been a great tool for me. My user name is rlindameyerhoeffer on MFP if you would like to add me. Hope your husband is doing better!
