    STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

Here was my "vent post" and the subsequent replies. Look at the very last reply and how long after it was posted. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78438-my-new-self-saint-louis-mo-help/

    STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

I had some struggles with the office staff too prior to surgery. If you look at my posts from this Spring, you'll see where I vented. Just a few weeks ago, somebody kinda went off on me in that post. I'm thinking it was somebody from the office based on their lack of profile info, no other posts, and comments that only an insider could make. I choose to bite my tongue instead of reply but was pretty offended. My experience was my experience -- I'm a reasonable person as I've been in service most of my career. Getting steamed again just thinking of that person's post. Anyhow, sorry you are having a bad experience with somebody. Luckily, I think most of the people there are fantastic. Hope it resolves itself soon!

    You look freaking awesome!!

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I was sleeved on 5/31 and hit 60 lbs lost today. I cleaned out about 2/3 of the clothes in my closet for goodwill today. HW: 295 CW: 235 I think it's been about 12 years since I was at my current weight. Can't wait until I'm in onederland!
  5. I had a small chocolate shake last night too and felt soooo awful after. Won't be doing that again. I've had sugar here and there but obviously pushed it too much with the shake. So grateful for my sleeve and how it reminds me to be a good girl when I make bad food choices. :-)

    STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

Best wishes to you!!! I live in St. Peters and was sleeved in STL by Dr. Scott at Des Peres Hospital in May. If my insurance wouldn't have covered my surgery, I definitely would have considered Mexico based on all the great things I've read here. I consider myself lucky that insurance covered my surgery and that I found a great surgeon locally. I've had zero complications and have lost 60 lbs in 3.5 months. VERY HAPPY!!!!

    STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

Dr. Minkin was the on-call Dr. the weekend after I had my sleeve (I had surgery on a Friday by Dr. Scott and was in the hospital until Sunday). I really liked Dr. Mikin. Best of luck to you!

    Hair loss

I'm in week 4 of major hair loss. Luckily I have very thick hair so it's not really noticeable to others but I can really tell. Hope it stops soons!!!
  10. Your story really touched me. Thanks for sharing it.
  11. I had my surgery with Dr Scott on 5/31 and am very happy. You are in great hands!
  12. I'm down 49lbs including my 3 day pre-op diet (surgery was on May 31st). I was losing at a fairly rapid pace initially and have been averaging 3lbs/week during the last several weeks. I work out at least 3X/week for an hour with a personal trainer. I'm thinking my weight loss is about average or maybe a tad above average. I'm getting between 800-1200 calories per day.
  13. I can eat about 6 oz per meal - any more and I'm in sooooo much pain!!! I do my protein first then my veggie or sometimes an indulgence (ie: a crab rangoon at lunch today). I'm almost 10 weeks out.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

Down 49 LBS since surgery on 5/31. Unfortunately, the hair loss started a few days ago. Seems like it's coming out in fist fulls but I have very thick hair so hoping it will stop soon before it does too much damage.
  15. During my pre-op NUT classes, we often talked about "mindful eating". So far, I've been very good about this until tonight. I violated all of the rules and I paid for it dearly. So, here's what happened.... I decided to cook tacos for dinner --- healthy tacos. I used bib lettuce for the shells and super lean ground sirloin with a variety of veggies (and a little cheese of course) for toppers. My husband was late coming home from work so I was pretty hungry by the time we were ready to eat. I filled up my lettuce leaf with all the goodies and settled in front of the TV (major violation of mindful eating) with my DH to watch last night's episode of True Blood. I was so hungry and so into the show that I pretty much inhaled my taco. OMG my tummy and chest hurt bad for the next 2ish hours. I didn't throw up but the pain was sooooo bad. I totally forgot I had had the surgery and just ate the way I used to eat. My taco was obviously too big and I ate it way too fast. NEVER AGAIN!

    Here's my story

Thanks for sharing your story --- loved your candor! I'm a little over 9 weeks post op and soooo happy with my decision to have the sleeve - I'm confident you will be happy as well. Love Masterchef and Graham Elliot - didn't know he had the sleeve so thanks for sharing that tidbit. Best wishes to you and keep us updated on your journey.
  17. I'm doing the same thing as you. I pretty much weigh every day unless I don't have access to my scale (ie: vacation) and I only record the losses (here and on mfp). I'm also tracking my loss in a graph in excel (I log my weight on the 15th and last day of the month) so I have a visual of the loss. I've lost 48 lbs in 9 weeks (including 3 day pre-op diet) which is an average of 5.3 lbs/week. If I back out the rapid weight loss in the beginning, I'm losing about 3 lbs per week now. That's pretty good (which I need to remind myself since I haven't lost anything in the last week!). Yes, stalls do stress me a bit but I'm trying to take them in stride. I was hoping for more but I'm happy especially considering my diet isn't super strict. I'm around 1000 calories per day and I exercise with a trainer at least 3 days a week but I do eat sugar (the real stuff - no scary chemical sweeteners for me!) and some days my fat intake is a tad high. I'm usually at 60ish grams of Protein per day and around 6 glasses of Water. I could be better but for now, I'm doing what's realistic for me.

    regret

It wasn't until the 5-6 week mark that I really felt like myself again. I still burp all of the time and have diarrhea about half of the time. But, I'm down 48 lbs and feel better than I have in a very long time. It will get better - I promise. Some of us take longer than others to recover. I know it can be confusing when you read the stories from people who seem not to be fazed or affected at all - I think that's the exception rather than the rule but I'm no expert. Hang in there and let us know in a couple weeks if you are feeling differently.

    does everybody lose hair?

I'm 10 weeks out and starting to lose tons of hair. I've got a very thick head of hair so hoping it won't be noticeable but guess time will tell.
  24. I have to be honest - I have started drinking just a little bit (maybe 1/8 cup of water) with my meals especially if I'm doing anything spicy. I haven't had any discomfort luckily. Guess if I do or stop loosing weight I'll need to revisit.
