Just a note about blood clots. They're a possibility of this surgery. So are other complications. A lot of people are second guessing having this surgery because someone on this forum died. Well guess what. Being fat has a lot of complications too. People die every day from heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and sleep apnea.
It's terrible what happened to lifesaveremt, and my heart is heavy for his family. But I personally know three different people who died in the last two years, who were younger than 50, and all three were a result of being obese. Don't let hearing about one person's misfortune sway you from getting healthy, ~especially~ if you have a high BMI.
I don't have any statistics, but I'd venture to guess that my 5 year mortality rate as a guy with a bmi of 47.5 is worse than my mortality rate as a guy having this surgery and significantly lowering my bmi, even factoring in death as a possible complication of surgery. My bmi is now already down to 44.5. It will keep going down month after month as I get healthier. As my bmi goes down, so does my risk for all of those fat-person co-morbidities that would eventually kill me. It's something to keep in perspective when we hear of a fatality due to surgery.
Good luck to all the March sleevers!

DVT's are a possibility in any operation. They are even possible from long car rides or airplane rides. That's why they use the compression boots (at least my hospital did), and they want us to get up and walk as often as possible.

Just had the easiest, yummiest meal! Took about 3-4 Oz of rotisserie chicken chopped, a handful of fresh spinach & 3 cherry tomatoes & sauted for a few minutes in EVO! Around 150 calories & 28g of protein! Easy & yummy! (must confess, my dogs helped me finish the chicken!) lol

I've looked online, but tell us what the signs and symptoms are if you wouldn't mind? Do they all have to be present or are any of them definite signs to get your butt to the ER?

Whatever! When you use this amazing tool to reshape yourself and change your life they will find something else to say. People who haven't struggled with weight just don't get it. But here is the deal, you did it, you! Not the sleeve, your nut or your dr. Yes, they helped you but you did it!!'

LOL. I didn't tell many people for that exact reason. My aunt, however, was talking to my mom and my mom told her she was proud of me because I'm losing weight and went from a 24 to a 14 already. My Aunt flipped out! She immediately called me up and was rude and snide and demanded to know what surgery I had because it would be impossible to lose that much weight without surgery, and why haven't I posted pictures if I've lost so much weight. She was SUCH a B*TCH, and all I could do...was laugh. I laughed so hard I actually teared up. I could not believe the icy disguist spewing from her mouth. My laughing didn't help at all. I never did tell her I did the sleeve, and now I probably never will. When people would offer me unsolicited advice, I just laugh and tell them thanks, I appreciate their thoughts. I think these people make their suggestions and comments because they are jealous, and scared that you might actually succeed while they...stay the same. Laughter is the best medicine, and it lets them know you don't take them seriously, because they are saying ridiculous things. Hold your chin up, ROCK that sleeve, and become the woman outside you've always been on the inside

So my mother got a voicemail this morning who heard I had VSG (I have no idea how she knows). I quote "I don't know if you know this, but Rosie really needs to change her diet or she's not going to keep the weight off. Surgery doesn't fix the problem". NO. FREAKING. WAY. REALLY??? And then she went on to suggest "healthy things" I could eat and offer her guidance.... She's a realtor, not a NUT. "You know when I had my kid I worked really hard to lose 25 pounds and I've kept it off! I think she could learn from my story". Like I could relate to that. At all.
I know what's healthy and what's not. I know how to lose weight. I'm a freaking expert at weight loss! We all are here. After all the practice we've had at doing it for three months here, two months there, the first week of January every year...
If we were able to use out knowledge of what's good for us and bad for us in our own lives, we wouldn't need surgery.
I've also had a friend of my moms and say "I don't know if you've tried it, but exercise really help with weight loss". LIGHTBULB! Why didn't I think of that?
I have no idea how to react when people give me "advice" like that. How do you handle it when people treat you like you're totally uneducated and inexperienced in the world of health???

Today is my first day back at work. I was sleeved Monday so was off work for 6 days. Feeling good and glad to be back. I put on my work clothes and had my first NSV. I was able to button the top button on my dress shirt. Normally I just use my tie to hold my shirt closed but today the button gets to do its own job. That was exciting! Looking forward to lots more of these discoveries.

Sleeved 2/19, down 32lbs. Yesterday, I stood and looked at myself in the mirror and I cried. I cried because I can see the contours of cheek bones. I cried because I have one roll and not two stomach rolls. I cried because I have a range of clothes in my closet from 22-14 and the 18's are almost too big. I didn't even try 16 yet. I cried because I am worth it and to have a boyfriend who doesn't compliment me because he is scared of losing the fat woman has given me confidence.

I get so happy looking at my plate and only eating maybe one fourth of what my friend does. Hearing from my buddy are you sure you are full. It just is amazing the food doesn't consume my life. Even if I am starving I can't over eat... is great. How do you all feel about leaving food on the plate? I was always told never to waste food now I don't mind.

Hey everyone sorry I haven't posted! I got so behind bc my internet didn't work in juarez but my texting did lol I had a GREAT experience and would recommend starmedica hospital in Juarez, dr rodriguez and his staff to ANYONE considering this surgery. I wont go through the entire thing, but everything was clean and modern, the staff was super nice and knowledgable, and I felt comfortable and safe the whole time. I am now 4 days post op (5 counting the day of surgery, seems like longer lol)and I feel pretty great in general! Not going to weight until Tuesday, the 1 week mark bc of all the extra Fluid weight. Don't want to be disappointed and it should be gone by the week mark. So far its all smiles and no regrets, and each day will be better and better!
