  1. I have been reading up on some foods for post op, I am still on liquids till next week then mushy. But was thinking about trying this when I can get to the crunch phase. I see these dry roasted and then I have seen you can eat them steamed. Wanted some opinions. They are high in protein.
  2. Looks like I will be putting these on my list of food once I can have them! Going to try them both ways.
  3. I am a CT Tech(CAT scan) for a cardiology office, doing mostly cardiac CTAs. As much as I love the cardiologists that I work for I don't ever want to be one of their patients. I'm in grand rapids, MI I am about 8 days post op.
  4. I was worried too about my ins not paying if I dodnt lose weight, I actually had one weigh in where I went up 5! So I fasted before my last weigh in and lost that 5 plus 2 more, so total I was down like 2 lbs in 6 months. My ins went through fine. I am 9 days post op and down 16 total so not a fast loser like some but I was expecting that. I did cheat a couple times on the pre op diet but mostly followed everything. That is what is important!

    Chicken

I have used boneless breasts a jar of salsa and a packet of taco seasoning, let it go about 6 hours. Then shred the chicken, its perfect for tacos for my husband and I just have to dress it up with some sour creme maybe cheese for myself
  6. So back to the grind, weighed myself and I am at exactly 250.4, I was 259 SW and 265 HW so I am pleased with the numbers. Finding my self getting impatient but I put on a pair of scrubs that were incredibly tight in the thighs before and now I have room. I will take it. I am worried today is going to suck. But my patient load is not what I thought it was going to be and I am going to force myself to go slow. I get winded easy and light headed fast. Going to stay on my liquids.
  7. Well technically I am still here but taking a break. I was busy with patients this morning till about 1130 and I handled well. Just glad I was able to sit my butt down after that, Now I am sore from head to toe. My back is sore(prob from spending so much time on my butt) and my gut feels like I have won the guiness world book of sit ups! I got 2 protein shakes down and 48oz of fluid, going to fill er up and get to 64oz before 5 I hope. Whats good is I did not get that low bloodsugar feeling that I was having a couple days ago. I did break out into sweat a couple times but forced myself to slow down. Tonight I plan on puttin something super comfy, (getting this damn bra off) and chillaxin till bedtime. I consider today a success. Also I have dropped the bomb at work about my surg. Told my manager and a few other coworkers. So far everyone has been supportive (theres prob a big buzz of whispering going around the office regarding me but let them!) I knew I would be able to deal with talking to people about this afterwards better than before hand and I was right. I noticed a difference in my scrub bottoms today, they were not so "bust the seam" tight. Victory! The scale has moved 15lbs total since pre-op(in which I gained oops) Anyway, off I go
  8. I was aug 5, I was told no BM for 5-7 days in normal, I went like 4 days and one since. (I have a naturally fast system tho) Sounds like you are on track

    Non believers

I will just chime in, I also am in the "group" as non-religious. I am very passive regarding this and choose not to talk about it much, and I normally wouldn't have posted anything except I enjoyed how you were to the point yet soft about it Butterthebean. I have a very close friend that enjoys debate and is very in your face about atheism, she is in my mind rude and hurtful to those of faith. But everyone has their niche I suppose. And sometimes its the outspoken ones that pave the way for more acceptance of these "different" views. My husband is a "non practicing" catholic, and we don't talk about this subject, the whole let sleeping dogs lie.....anyway kind of nice to see I'm not the only one here
  10. Yes, that is worrisome, gotta check with your doc, please keep us posted
  11. Gardengirl I am pleased with how everything has gone so far. Very thankful that I have not had any complications(so far). I am struggling with the post op liquids but its tolerable and I will not do anything to sabatoge this. (I am adding a splash of coffee to my protein drinks which makes a world of difference!) I was told no caffeine but I am being naughty on this, 1/4 cup is all I am intaking
  12. Thanks so much for the info. I was curious to what they had us doing. I bought some of my own unflavored Protein Powder and plan on adding it to everything!. I have another week yet before that happens.
  13. MI Journey queston for you, what did they have you start eating at the 2 week appt? Mine isn't for awhile yet but I need something to look forward to!!! I'm only on 6 day post op

    7 days post op!

Conrats on your good recovery I am on day 5, I also have not had any complications, really a fairly easy recovery but I am noticing I get fatigued or tired quickly. I get that low bloodsugar feeling even light headed. I unfortunately have to go back to work monday (day 7)so I am going to push myself today and tomorrow and see how I do. I also have gotten almost 60gm of protein and fluids. If you have the time off I would take it, that way there is no question about your stamina. My work is part on my feet and part desk. But since I am the only one who does my job I will be going back to a potential sh*t storm I think!!!
  15. Well I did my pre-shopping this morning. Gas-x check, G2 check, crystal light check and so on........my bag is packed and I do have my chapstick handy. Also charging my ipod and kindle devices. I have been fairly calm and not too anxious,. This morning I had a flash of me walking into the surg suite and my stomach dropped a few feet. It must be trying to wrap around my spine and hang on for dear life! Poor thing, sorry buddy its almost time to part with most of you. I just finished cooking lasagna and other dinners to freeze for DH. And turns out I was not tempted by it at all. I think I have come to terms with my future. Good luck to my fellow aug 5th sleevers. We aren't alone. I will try to keep updated. Oh yeah I also took a couple before pictures.......lets just say I will wait to post them till I look a hell of alot better!!!!! LOL
  16. I dont really have that fullness because Im too scared to push it, I can feel every bit of everything that goes down. And I think just liquids and jello don't really give you much of a view of what it will be like with real food. Everyone swells differently, and I too spit up and entire esophagus full of dark blood/ mucus, eeewww, thank god I was still in la la land after the anesthesia. I remember being in my room and having to pee, so they got to the toilet and while sitting there I bent down a little and good thing there was a basket right there. It all just came up! I only did that once but wow I look back now and would have freaked. My nurse said it was from the tube down the throat. I had some soreness but it went away fairly quickly the next day
  17. I am nowhere near this point post op, but was wondering what others opinions were on these. I got these at costco before and loved them. Wondering how long post op you were able to tolerate. I see this brand has a whole line of stuff, so if you have had it and liked it I would love the feedback.
  18. I had a hiatal hernia reapir as well, I never knew I had one. I did get some reflux periodically but figured it was from bad food choices only. I also would get heart palpataions after eating a big meal, and I learned this was from my stomach pressing on one of the major nerves. But it always freaked me out. I hope this will be gone as well since I won't be eating real food for awhile yet. I am sorry your recovery is hard. Make sure to take any meds they prescribed and don't hesitate to ask for more if you need them, no reason to be in pain. that alone is hard on your body and mind. I have never been someone for pills but I am sooo thankful for having them the first couple days. And I still take them at night for a complete nights rest.
  19. I don't plan of working out much till my drs appt which is my 2wk appt. but I am going to walk walk walk, I think focusing on the fluids is key, I alos am not weighing myself till monday, which will be one week. I am getting winded walking up my stairs right now. so I need to get my stamina up a little to go back to work
  20. Good for you, did they give you anything to take for your nausea? I took stuff religiously even if I didn't feel nauseous. I came home tues and today I feel really good, but my energy levels are not great, I am going to walk outside for fresh air today, hope you are well
  21. Sorry guys I just saw these posts. I am doing quite well actually. I woke up this morning with less pain, I have had no nausea since the hospital. But I am having a heck of a time getting down the food they give us from the office. I like the shakes that are in the bottles and I can usually barely stomach the nectar ones. the Gelatin is ok too. But the Soups are terrible!!! Make me sick to my stomach, so looks like I wasted a bunch of money on those foods. I just ordered unjury and went to costco to get the premier shakes in choclate. This morning I felt great, took a shower started some laundry and then felt light headed, so I got my G2 and drank that then my shake. I am amazed at the size of swallows I can get in. But I think alot of it was fear of putting in anything in my new tummy. It does take awhile to get down a full shake but I work on it all day. I am going to walk alot today, need to start pushing myself. I go back to work monday and will be on my feet alot since I have been gone. I don't do any lifting but I am sure they will have a full schedule for me. Gardengirl, I was only a one week pre-op because I was considered "low BMI" but I don't think they do that often. I actually liked the food then, in the meals, and bars, but the soups like I said are horrendous to me. Good luck keep us posted and feel free to ask me anything you want. I love having people to talk to about this because I am not telling others about it. I was super happy with the staff at st marys they were on time and almost pushed the meds on me to make sure I was comfortable. I had a couple different kinds of nausea meds thru the IV that helped because I had one instance that was bad, no retching but lots of saliva pouring out! I have not had a BM yet which doesn't worry me but I my take something tomorrow if nothing happens today.

    Post op day 3

Day 3 already, I was more sore today in my lower tummy. (my surgeon removed my stomach thru another incision lower from a prev surg I had) so I am assuming this is the more painful site, mostly hurts when I try to get off the couch or out of chair. I did sneeze today and whoa that sucked. But its nothing constant. I was expecting more pain and am sooo grateful I have had the easy time I have had. The only meds I took today is the omeprizole for acid. I will take the phenergran at night because I believe a full night sleep is extremely important. I am sleeping on the couch, so I can stay upright and not take in any air. I did not nap today which is different. I had my first "outting" today, my mom picked me up and we went to costco had my heart set on some premier protein shakes. My surgeon gives his patients food for pre and post op. All of it has protein. I tried the soup today and was horrified by it. It was disgusting and made me nauseous. I can handle the gelatin with protein. they want me eating 4 servings a day. So I decided to go with what I like. I walked the store with my mom twice, it was tough going by all the stuff I used to by there. Smelling the food. I don't believe it was real hunger I was experiencing. But today I noticed the fatigued feeling others have posted. Which in turn put me in a piss poor mood. I felt like I had nothing in my body to fuel it. So I stopped and got some campbells chicken noodle soup and strained it. It tasted wonderful. I was only able to eat a small portion and didn't push it. that took care of my mood. My goal tomorrow is to push myself walking, I need to build some stamina for monday going back to work. I have been really good about getting my fluid in, thanks to crystal light of course.
  23. I was given Levasin dissolvable for nausea and have not used it yet today(day 3) I have also used the gas x strips a couple of times. Maybe see if they can prescribe you something for nausea. I was nauseous in the hospital and given a couple different things IV and that basically put me out. I had the slimmies from it. Hope you can find something to feel better. I have been lucky an dhave not had too rough of a ride, yet.

    3 days post op

I am on day three as well. I have been able to get about 48oz of liquid and a couple sf popsicles. I am working up to my goal proteins. I was told no dairy because it causes gas which in turn causes pain. They want me at 60gms of protein but said this would be very difficult to get to right away. So I am focusing on fluid intake. I got a whole shake down this morning and plan to do a nectar shake soon. The gas has not been bad for me, I have not had a movement yet but was told this is normal. I can tell when I have a gas bubble I feel it go all the way up my stomach then it sits and hurts till I can get it out.
