  1. I've never been able to figure out how anyone else's relationships had any impact on my relationship with my husband. Marriage isn't just for making babies. I'm never going to have babies with my husband. Ever. But I want to keep my husband.

Rush Limbaugh has crossed the line

HEY! NO DENIGRATING THE POLKA YOU!!!! I saw it both on Keith Oberman's show http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/ (I've got a heart on for that man! Pulls no punches and treats silly news as silly, serious as serious.) and I've seen it on The Daily Show as well.

    Can I still eat Sushi?

That's one of the wonderful and weird things about the Band... no two people are the same. You take two bandsters who are roughly equally restricted and one will be able to eat half a tuna sandwich and the other person can't tolerate the tuna or the bread in any way, shape or form. The only way you will know if you can handle sushi is if you try it. You may be able to handle everything, the nori, the rice and the fish. Or you might find that salmon is a no-go while tuna or eel is just fine. I used to really like octopus and calamari, but now I find them too chewy... not worth it.

Why does my nose run when I am full?

Hello Irish Girl. This sounds like it's your "soft stop." Many, many bandsters have a signal that lets them know that they are done, done before they come to a HARD STOP Some folks get the hiccups, and I know that the runny nose is pretty common. For many of us, we have to learn when "enough" really is enough. Many of us don't think we are full unless we are ready to pop. It's about learning our bodies, and what "saity" feels like. Strength and Courage!

    Lapband or Bypass?

Hi Virginia, the answers you will get here are all going to be biased towards the Bands, since that is what we all chose. My husband last lost over 200 pounds so far, he started at 600 pounds when he was banded. Friday he was able to put one a 2X sweat shirt... When he started he was wearing 6X... In this thread http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16168 you will find folks who are all starting with a BMI of over 50. That might be a good place for you to start looking. Even though I cannot lose weight due to a brain tumor, if I'd had RNY, I'd still have the brain tumor and I would still not be able to lose weight. My tumor was not found until after I was banded. Because I was not losing weight I demanded answers why. I am encouraged that your surgeon is not pushing you in either direction, even if that makes it more difficult for you. One of the things that you will notice that is missing here... We don't have a memorial board.

    I've quit losing

http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8943 is the list of my NSVs. You might want to go get a cup of tea, it's a long read. But I track all of them, and notice them. Bitter, your NSVs, your Non-scale Victories are all the wins you have in life that have nothing to do with the scale. The large and small triumphs that you perhaps would not have even considered doing/attemping before banding. Or simply not even noticed. The pounds lost only tell part of your story. Your NSVs tell the rest. If you think of it like a drawing, the pounds are the outline of the landscape, but your NSVs are what bring your painting to life, they add texture and color, contrast and defininiton to your story. My NSV list is litterally the only thing that has sustained me here. I have no weight loss, and I will not lose any weight until this damned brain tumor is removed. That is just my cold and hard reality. But I will always have my complete list of NSVs.

    Crystal's complete list of NSVs

I thought I would bump this, since I've been doing a crummy job lately of banging the NSV Drum.... My current NSV? I'm going to write a novel next month as part of NaNoWriMo.
  9. Hi Lovemylapband I don't know anything about lupus, other than it's one of those diseases that they have to use steroids to treat you with. And that's the problem, the steorids. I know how awfull it is to be on prednisone and just watch your body swell, semingly of it's own accord. The rapid weight gain, the 'roid rage, the round red moon face, the acne, I could go on, but anyone who's takine steroids knows all too well. I think with steroids you are looking at a double edged sword. The increased steroids in your body make you hold onto the just about evey calorie you take in. The calories in/out thing doesn't work if you have a high level of steroids in your system. The other edge is that for many people, the steroids make them hungry. I'm not sure what mechanism get flipped on here, but this is what happens. I don't know if this makes you feel better or not, but since they have you weaned down to a lower dose, your weight gain should really slow down. Once you are completely weaned off the prednisone, you should be able to lose weight again. I'm so sorry about the lupis, from what I understand it's a difficult row to hoe. (((((hugs)))))

    HELP!!! Reality Check!!!

wait, you only gained 5 pound from being on a cruise? ONLY 5 POUNDS???? That is WONDERFUL!!! And you had a F-A-B time too from the sounds of it. WOOT! Sounds like a Double NSV to me. Jenn, Baby-doll, this is not a set back. Really it's not. Let's put some perspective on this. Preband how much would you have gained? 15 pounds? I mean, seriously without your band, how much would you have gained? I've never been on a cruise, but I've seen pictures of the buffets, of the spreads.... lottsa food, right? You've lost 60-plus pounds with your band. This is no time to freak out. You just need some perspective. Now, just think how much fun you will have next time you go on cruise after you are that much closer to your goal. Strength and Courage!

    Airlines Charing Extra!

This is one reason why I won't fly Southwest. It would be one thing if they were discrete about it, but they seem to take delight in humilation. I hate the whole rush to your seat thing, and when they kicked off the woman for wearing a "Bush Sucks" tee-shirt... well, not gonna fly them...

    I've quit losing

Hi Bitter, frequently people plateau. And usually when they are doing this their body is busy "re-packing." Right now, you are under a lot of stress, and yes, stress has a huge impact on your weight loss as well. Stress releases cortisol, and cortiosl is the "fight or flight" hormone, and it's one of your body's denfense in times of famine. Try to not stress about it. I know, easier said than done. Are you tracking your inches or just your pounds? What about your NSVs? are you tracking them as well? Sometimes when the scale doesn't move the NSVs just come in droves, and the inches fall off.

I refuse to wear pantyhose either. And no one is big enough, or bad enough to make me wear them, either. So there. HAH.

Rush Limbaugh has crossed the line

When Michael J. Fox spoke for Arlin Specter ® limbaugh didn't accuse Fox of being a shill for Specter. It is terrible to have a disease and to be mocked and accused of being a lier, a charalitan or worse.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

(((((Kryssa)))) oh no! not a burn. They take forever to heal.. but you know that. Did you need grafs? (graphs?) I hope you didn't have to deal with infections.. You poor thing! Right, it's time for you to start demanding answers from other doctors. Get your PCP to get you a referal to an Endocryinologiost or an internist. Do not settle on "metabolic X" or some other "we don't know answer." Just because doctors have MD behind their name doesn't mean they know everything. I was in the ER last night for one of my killer headaches. The ER doc basically said I was a lier, and that Cyclical Cushing's doesn't exisit... Well, he's not an Endo, he's not an Endo that specialized in Cushing's and he sure as heck doesn't live in my body. all you slow losers, FIGHT! DO NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN. you know somethings wrong, don't let some fool who's seen you for all of 15 minutes tell you otherwise. Do not go quietly into the dark! Cherg, "first bite syndrom" is when we take our first bit and then we are too tight to eat any more. Sometimes we get stuck and slime or worse. You will find all of our jargon http://lapbandtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73 here

For Slow Losers - Excellent Info

Nope, the band doesn't help at all. But, it did lead me there, because I probably would have never found the Cushing's without it though. I would have been dismissed as "fat and lazy." Forever. But I'm used to doctors dismissing my health concerns becuse I'm fat. I had a collasped lung that they diagnosed as "fat." Part of the biggest problem with Cushing's is that the main symptom is OBESITY. If you are fat, it's your own damn fault, you've been over eating and under excersizing, and you need to take ownership, whatever that means... I was told that it was NORMAL to gain 25 pounds in a week. Sure if you are a pregnant elephant... I gained 50 pounds one summer, and I was told it was because I was upset because my husband was on sea duty. (I didn't change my eating habbits or my excersize) Just because doctors have MD behind their name doesn't mean they know everything. I was in the ER last night for one of my killer headaches. The ER doc basically said I was a lier, and that Cyclical Cushing's doesn't exisit... Well, he's not an Endo, he's not an Endo that specialized in Cushing's and he sure as heck doesn't live in my body. BeecheeGirl, and all you slow losers, FIGHT! DO NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN. you know somethings wrong, don't let some fool who's seen you for all of 15 minutes tell you otherwise. Do not go quietly into the dark!

Beachee, honey, the first endo said the SAME THING!!! I fired him, and went to another one who found my pit tumor and confirmed my Cushing's. Fire his butt and find another one. You do NOT have to take their smerking patronizing attitude. Fire him and find another one. If that one can't help, then fire that one. NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!
