    acid

I have been having the same issue!! I was hoping it got better with time, but you're a good 7 weeks ahead of me! I will say that they sent me home taking one pepcid a day. By the first week I was up to 2 a day, plus tums for breakthrough acid. When I went back for my 2 week appt they gave me prilosec instead that I'm taking twice a day. I have noticed an improvement since switching, thank goodness. I try not to eat too late b/c the acid bothers me most at night. I even tried some home remedies - apple cider vinegar. Not only did it not work, it made me violently vomit for 10 minutes. BLEH. Hoping your acid gets better I know it can be so miserable!!!

    Curious?

He's right, if it's over 140 degrees the protein degrades. Some protein powders are only good to 130 degrees, but most are to 140. Read the label on the kind you are using, it should tell you there.

VSG and Hernia Surgery - anyone?

I had a hiatal hernia repair with surgery. I did not experience acid reflux prior to surgery, except every once in a while after certain foods. Since surgery I have dealt with the worst heartburn imaginable on a daily basis. I was on Pepcid once a day, but was taking it twice a day along with many TUMS. My Dr switched me to Prilosec yesterday so I am praying that I get relief. If this does not go away it is going to make me completely regret this surgery. I'd rather be fat than have the feeling that my esophagus is literally being eaten away from the inside
  5. LOL I feel bad for the nurse that has to do your catheter :) Sorry though, I was lucky and mine waited till the day AFTER surgery.
  6. That's a hell of a long time to be on liquids. UGH. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, and only had to do 2 weeks of liquids after surgery. Good Luck with that

    It's hilarious to eat, now

It's crazy. For me the best part has been seeing all the money I used to spend on food just sitting in my account!!! I didn't realize how much I spent on food between the grocery, and all the little fast food trips here and there. I'm sitting on an extra $200 this check alone and I decided that any extra goes into my CLOTHES FUND!!! On a side note I had my 2 week checkup today and they said I'm a model patient, and that I was 7lbs ahead of the curve! I lost 21 over the past 2 weeks!

    Did you tell...?

If someone asks me that I do not feel comfortable telling my business to, I just explain that I had a hiatal hernia repaired and as a result had to be on a restrictive diet to help with the healing. Down the road I'll just say that this jump started my weight loss. I dont feel I need to tell anyone that doesn't already know, as you know how much people like to judge, and I've been judged enough for being fat that I dont need it for getting skinny!!!!!!!!

How soon can you sleep on your side.

It took me 6 days to be able to lay on my side. Either side. My main incision is on my left, but it hurt on either side. I've been sleeping on my side now for about a week, until 2 nights ago. I can no longer side sleep again, and I believe this is due to the fact that I am at the point where my internal sutures are reabsorbing. The Dr. warned me about this I hope this passes soon and I can get back to my side b/c I hate sleeping on my back!!

    Liver damage after wls ?

They highly caution people against alcohol after WLS for this very reason. Because of a tiny stomach, we are now hyper sensitive to alcohol. Clearly we also have issues with addiction, hence the need for WLS in the first place. She most likely traded one addiction for the other. This is part of the reason that they make you do all the psych tests/interview prior and ask you about alcohol use prior to surgery. Very sad story.
  12. Sorry to hear you are struggling!!! Looking at your nutritionist guidelines, I will have to say that they are EXTREMELY strict!!!! 20g of Carbs a day?? Wow. So my Dr's office recommends 60-80 g Protein and 60-100g Carbs, trying to stay no more than 15 per meal/snack. They also do not want us drinking Protein shakes once we are done with the liquid phase as we need to learn to get our protein from real food. Do you think if you felt freedom to eat more than once a day that would help?? I'm sure your Dr. means well and wants to have you lose a ton, but what's the point if you're so miserable on their "plan" that you don't follow it? Why don't you try changing it up a bit? Now girl you know the chicken nuggets and frappuccino are not going to help so you gotta get away from that stuff, but that doesn't mean you should be forced to try to gag down nasty protein shakes for 2 of your 3 meals! There are tons of delicious yet nutritions foods you could substitue instead So the Vitamins....I feel you. I am a terrible pill taker. I finally bought gummy vitamins for women, and I set 2 alarms to go off each day to remind me to take them. I too have also had issues with getting all the liquid in. What I found worked was pouring it out into little 1oz plastic shot glasses that I swiped from the hospital. Then I give myself a goal, like 8 of them in one hour and I'll set another alarm for my deadline. It may sound silly but making it into little games has really helped. I was feeling so dehydrated before. As for the exercise...I have not yet started that either other than walking, my program also includes fitness classes but we do not start those till week 3. Any exercise is good exercise. I know a lady that did nothing more than laps around her dining room table for an hour everyday as she sip sip sipped on water! It's FREEZING here and I hate treadmills so I've been going to the malls and walking around looking at all the clothes that I'll soon be able to wear and THAT keeps me motivated more than anything else (I love to shop!!). Everyone's journey is different, you are not a failure. All it takes is tomorrow to get back on track. Your Dr is being overly restrictive and I think 90% of the people on here would tell you the same thing. Do what feels right for your body but don't poision your results with the emotional eating. We are here for you!

    Losing breast weight

LOL like 2 days. Seriously. By day 4 my bra no longer fit me correctly. Im down 22 lbs since surgery on 12/24 and my cup size has gone from DD to barely D.

    Time off

My Dr likes everyone to take 4 weeks off. Not because you aren't healed at that point, but to devote your total focus to getting your protein/fluid during those first few weeks. Although I have a desk job, I cannot imagine trying to do all of this at work, it would be a nightmare. I've worked for Chase for almost 10 years, so I can have up to 14 weeks off with full pay for a Short Term Disability Leave. I'm also protected through FMLA if I need additional days here and there after the 4 weeks is up.

    3 days post op

Welcome to both of you!! It does get better I was sleeved 12/24 and I've lost 22lbs. The liquid part (clear and full) is hard, but it does end. I cannot wait till Monday when I can eat some scrambled eggs!!! I have been dreaming about them

    SUTURE REMOVAL

Not sure what sutures you are talking about. My laproscopic incisions were glued not stitched, and my internal stitches are reabsorbed by the body on their own. Are you sure they are going to stitch you shut?
  17. Be glad that's all they want. I had to do 6 months of dietician/dr supervised diet before they would approve me. You should do it, it helps prepare you for life after surgery, and it makes surgery healthier if you drop some excess weight first. Good luck!

VSG and Hernia Surgery - anyone?

Hi, I had the same thing. Also did not know I had it I did not experience acid reflux prior to surgery. After surgery I have experienced it daily, and Dr has me on pepcid. What I noticed after surgery is that (most likely due to swelling) I could hardly get anything in my pouch. You may feel like it is stuck right at the base of your esophagus where your stomach meets, that's where the surgery repair was done. I am 10 days post op now and having a MUCH easier time getting thing down, but the first week was hard. Don't worry about the requirements they give you for protein/fluids as your body simply wont be able to intake that much initially. Feel free to message me with any other questions you think of!
  19. Big victory, I am under 40 BMI for the first time in probably 5 years. YAY!!!!! 22 lbs lost since surgery, 33 overall!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I was initially super freaked about the hair loss thing too, then I realized that I can afford to go buy hair extensions with all the money I'm NOT spending on groceries, fast food, ect. Don't sweat it, take 2000 mg of Biotin a day to keep the hair loss at bay. I'd rather be skinny with thin hair than fat with thick hair
  21. Hi there! I was sleeved 12/24 and I can tell you that I have been experiencing everything you said. I also have been having a hard time getting in my fluids. When it comes to my "meals" I've only been able to get in about 1/3 cup at most. The first week after surgery was hard, but over the last 2-3 days things have been getting easier. I actually drank 30oz of Water last night in roughly a 2 1/2 hour span and I was practically giddy! I have been doing a better job of taking water anywhere I go and just making myself take constant sips. It adds up over the course of a day. I'm sure this is normal we are still swollen internally! I have my 2 week check up on Monday, so far I am down 20lbs since surgery. I'd like to hit 25 for my 2 week weigh in but we'll see

    Chills

I'm with you I have ALWAYS been hot. I'm always the only one sweating, the only one that is about to die lol. Now, I'm sitting here in my house with my heat at 78 (used to be set at 68). I'm in long pants, 2 pairs of socks, 3 shirts, and a double layer fleece blanket and I feel like I might as well be sitting outside. I must say it's a welcome change from being hot and sweaty, but such a weird side effect! Bundle up

    sleeved on 12/31

I had to sleep on my back for the first week. I'm a side sleeper and neither side was comfortable
  24. It could be pain from you internal stitches absorbing, but you should probably call the Dr just to be safe! Hope it's nothing serious.
