    What to say at work?

I have not told anyone I work with. It's none of their business. They obviously see me eating healthier and smaller portions. It's been almost 3 years. I'm sure they are gossiping about someone else by now!
  2. I am 2 1/2 years post op and I have gained 30 lbs in the last year. My mom has been sick, she's home with hospice and slowly dying. I struggle with anemia and get too short of breath with exercise. I will be starting iron infusions soon. So yes, you CAN gain weight if you don't exercise and eat right. Although I have stayed away from bread and pasta, I do not focus on fluids and protein, AND I stress eat on junk food like chips at night.
  3. I am 2 1/2 years post op and I was at my goal of 170 one year ago. In the past year I have gained 30 lbs. - my mom was diagnosed with cancer then broke her hip. She's home with hospice and it's a day to day struggle. Every free moment I have I spend with her. I have been struggling with anemia and have a hard time exercising due to getting short of breath. I am just beside myself and I know people who have lost 20-30 pounds with this and I'm thinking this might help with my late night stress cravings.
  4. I am 2 1/2 years post op and I gained 30 lbs this past year. Due to life circumstances I fell off track. (Mom diagnosed with cancer. She has good days and bad days so I take it one day at a time) I have been trying to get back on track and I have trouble exercising due to low hemoglobin levels I get too tired. I'm thinking about trying Qsymia, a prescription weight loss pill just to help get me jump started. I know people that have lost 20-30 lbs with it and feel great.
  5. I work in a day surgery unit. It's a busy unit but not a lot of lifting or anything. I had the surgery on a Friday and only took 9 days off (I took one week and went back the following Monday). Although I was tired, as long as I got my fluids in, I was fine. Just napped when I got home!

    gossip stories/ haters gonna hate

Yes, haters gonna hate no matter what. I chose not to tell anyone about my surgery (just immediate family-hubby and grown children only) mostly because I figured people would be talking but I didn't want anyone saying I "took the easy way out" even though we all know surgery isn't easy! Besides, my business is my business. Now I get..."You're too skinny...you look sick....etc. I just smile, hold my head up and tell them my doctor is very happy so I'm very happy!

Left Side Pain 17 mo post op

Hey how did you make out with your tests? It's several days later, I hope you no longer have pain!

    Alcohol post op

I was told absolutely not for several reasons. Beer is not good because of the carbonation. Wine and hard liquor can easily irritate the staple line. Also it is very common to replace eating with alcohol consumption post op. It's a dangerous slippery slope.
  10. who can't submit it to Caremark? Why not? Worst case scenario is they say no
  11. I have Medco. I'm going to try and get approved even though I'm 11 months post op!!

    BCBS NJ Direct

I have BCBS NJ Direct 15. My first surgical appt was January 2013 and my surgery was 4/12/13. I saw my surgeon once a month and I needed medical clearance, pulmonary and psych clearance. Diagnosed with sleep apnea on the pulmonary clearance. BMI 37. 11 months later I'm down 80 lbs!!!
  13. Congratulations on your decision! I work in PACU and also opted to go to a different hospital where I don't know anyone. I'm 11 months post op, 80 lbs lost and 3 lbs to goal. I took one week vacation so counting the weekends I went back to work on post op day 10. You should do fine with your liquids as long as your cases are a bit shorter. A long case might be a problem in the beginning. The first week back I would eat a plain Greek yogurt but throw half of it out when nobody was looking because a full container was too much. Till this day nobody knows I had the surgery. We do quite a bit of Bariatrics at my place and I hear the remarks my coworkers make especially when hospital staff have the surgery...they aren't fat enough, they should just go to weight watchers. I wanna scream "Listen you judge mental beotch, if the insurance covers it, trust me, she's fat enough!!!!!!!"

    Any nurses out there?

I took one week vacation because I haven't told anyone about my surgery. Counting the weekend I went back on post op day 10. No problems getting my fluids in!
