I'm from the South Bend area and am going to Memorial Weight Loss and Bariatrics (I HIGHLY recommend them - they focus on making over your mind as well, and really teach you everything you need to succeed; there's a NUT, a counselor, and an insurance pro in addition to the surgeon).
My surgery is March 13! It took 8 months to get a date after all the insurance and testing but I'm so happy it's finally close!

The hair loss is a byproduct of the rapid weight loss. Protein and Biotin won't stop or slow it more than a little. My surgeon said its just something you have to accept for a brief while. It will grow back! Hey I'd rather have half my hair for a couple months than not lose the weight

My surgeon's data over 9 years shows women that wait at least 2 years have an easier time keeping the weight off and have fewer difficulties with the pregnancy.

Sorry for being the cornball that ruins the fun-ness of this thread but I've never been attracted to only one type of male body type and I am trying so hard to love myself and not compare myself to others that I've learned, over time, that I just want to be healthy. Whatever my body looks like is only something I can only control up to a point. So as much as I can, I try not to spend any part of my life wishing I wasn't myself.
    CORNY I know!

I was a wreck for almost three weeks, then it turned around in the 4th. It's really hard but also REALLY temporary. And it might take longer for some people than others. Try to get yourself through these tough times and you WILL feel better.

Cristin got a reaction from elpaso73 in losing 1\2 lb a day 5 months out. is that normal?
Phew, I was like... So you lost 100+ lbs in 2 weeks? YES BE CONCERNED! Lol.
I wouldn't worry about half pound a day. You're still relatively new post op and the human body does crazy things. What would be worthwhile is logging Fluid and food intake. Then you'll have some data that might help you figure out what is going on.

Cristin got a reaction from manderdjs in bmi low
Probably because your BMR is lower. Heavier people, say, a 300 lb woman might have a BMR of 2,600 calories a day. A 200 lb woman might have a BMR of 1,700 calories a day.
So if both were sleeved and can only eat 1,000 calories a day, the heavier woman has a deficit of 1600 calories (almost a half pound of fat) for the day, whereas the lighter woman has a deficit of 700 calories (1/5 lb of fat) for the day.

Cristin reacted to measureofme in How Soon Can I Resume My Pre-Sleeve Eating Lifestyle?!?!
I'm gonna jump in on this one because, in my philosophy, for many of us it's a bigger picture issue.
I had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Not a personality change, not a lobotomy.
If my obesity is part of a larger mental health issue, then the Sleeve is just half of the answer. Some folks don't know that they have addiction/personality disorder components as part of their diagnosis. Or have some amount of denial. So, they go into the procedure with only half the solution at hand. They can hear/see the formula and "know" the way the lifestyle works... but if they're not addressing the addiction/personality side of it because they don't realize or don't acknowledge it, then it stands to reason old habits will TRY to be retained.
I will freely admit and discuss that, for me, obesity resulted from a life of addiction/mental health disorder. I was damn lucky that my Sleeve Journey started with years of counseling and culminated in a watershed moment where I knew I had to change and needed help to do it. Not everyone for who the story is similar has that resource or insight. I know that without my small army of professionals, family and friends supporting me, I'd probably be asking the same questions you're frustrated by. I often wonder what the support of those asking these questions is like.
Is it frustrating to see folks posting freely about wanting to "cheat"? Yep. Is it SCARY how soon some folks push the envelope? Totally. Do I wonder what is in their minds? All the time. Do I want to shake them and aks why they bothered? Ohmygosh yes!
But then, I think about my own heart and how many times in my 9 weeks post op I've had a (albeit much quieter) demon on my shoulder telling me how good that toast would taste, how a "little piece" of this or that won't hurt me, just ONE will not make the scale go up. How many times in my 9 weeks post op I've failed to follow the program by not getting enough water/protein/exercise... giving in to the demon in my brain on a few occassions.
I guess my point is, I feel ya AmandaRae. Completely. But as a person who is struggling, I'd just ask for those who want to "tell it like it is" to do so, but add a dash of compassion into it too- the person asking about bread/chinese food/eating "normally" may not have half their own story solved or it may be winning them over for the moment. Shall I prepare for the flames now? Or perhaps I've just killed another thread?

I think we can all have differing opinions without being disrespectful to each other...... Can't we?
There are a few posts in this thread that are completely uncalled for. Please think about what you post, posting inflammatory statements or taking pot shots at another member accomplishes nothing except calling attention to yourself.

Friend. I'd rather spend 120 calories on a half cup of edamame, than 200 calories on a Protein Bar full of sugar and additives.

Cristin got a reaction from sastexan4u@yahoo.com in What vitamins are you all taking daily?
I take a multivitamin 2x daily, Iron, Vitamin D, and Calcium 2x daily.
I will probably add a B complex if my doc says the multivitamin doesn't have enough B Vitamins. And maybe Biotin. I don't think it's necessary until my hair starts falling out, and I'm only 1 month post op.

Cristin got a reaction from Sassygirl06 in Talking about sex too soon? DATING
It depends on how you met online. A dating site is fine probably. Craigslist... Not so much. But I think great relationships can start online and sex is part of flirtation. Just be yourself and don't worry about anything but being honest with him.
And yeah, make sure the date is in a public place just to be safe. But this really is a new era. People meet online all the time.
Sounds really exciting and fun!! Just like you would want to do with any guy, don't let him push or pressure you into anything you're not ready for.
    And have fun!!!

Cristin got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Any sleevers under 24?
Lower age is correlated with less excess skin, but if you have more than 100lbs to lose, you're gonna get it. It wouldn't be as bad as it would if you were 50, but it will still show up.
There's nothing we can do about it, unfortunately. In areas with only small amounts of excess skin, bulking those areas up with muscle will help, though.
