  1. Might be gas trapped. I was blessed with no gas pains but many swear that walking helps. Every day you will feel better.
  2. Are you taking an acid blocker...Proposed, Nexium, etc? You may be experiencing acid or gas bubbles. My surgeon prescribed a dissovable Prevacid and Carafate for one month post op.

    Calcium Chews

Is there a reason you have to do the chews? At 6 months post op you should be able to use calcium pills. I gave up the chews quite a while ago....too expensive

    Vomiting every night

    Call your surgeon ASAP

    Aetna H.M.O

You may have a hiatal hernia and not know it, I had one tha discovered during my WLS.....you would need an endoscopy to find out.

    Insurance Question

I have Aetna Managed Choice. But, it doesn't matter if someone has the same insurance company or plan as you. You need to call Aetna to see which coverage your employer has chosen, what is covered and what the requirements are. I had to have a history of obesity with no long term weight loss success and a letter of recommendation from my primary doctor. 3 consecutive monthly visits with my surgeon, psych visit, nutritionist visit, gallbladder ultrasound. But....I am not sure which of those requirements were Aetna' s and which we're my surgeon's personal requirements. If you have already chosen a surgeon, he or she should have an insurance coordinator to help you through the process but the first step is to call Aetna. Get the first and last name of the person you talk to or ask them to assign reference number to the phone call and then ask or the weight loss surgery requirements in writing. Good luck!!!!
  7. Yup......My surgeon said about 5 days, I was also very surprised.

    Hopeless

Too many carbs, not enough solid, dense Protein. Ditch the tortillas, Beans and flat bread. Deli turkey or ham rolled up with cheese and a pickle would be good for lunch. chicken salad or tuna salad over greens is a good lunch option also. Any type of chicken, beef or pork with green beans or broccoli is a much better dinner option than corn tortillas and beans.

    Nervous

What I was trying so say was the sleeve doesn't have some of the issues as bypass such as dumping which makes some foods off limits for many. You said you we're nervous about what you had to give up. Truth is, I don't have to give up anything, but I choose to. Yes, the rule is protein first, which I still follow the majority of the time. I am almost 2 years post op and at goal so I am I maintenance now. Pizza is not a regular menu item for me. When my family has pizza I will either eat the topping off of a slice or maybe eat a half of a slice with the crust. I am Italian so pasta is an every Sunday event. I make my own sauce and meatballs. I eat a meatball or two first and then a very small serving of pasta if I have room. I do not drink wine so that is not an issue for me......if you want a glass of wine you can certainly have one if it fits in your daily plan of calories allowed. Example: if I am going to a party and I know there is going to be cake, I make sure I eat very few carbs and more protein with the meal so the small piece of cake will be ok. It's a learning process and it takes time but it is the best thing I ever did. I am sure you will do fine.

    Heartburn.....

Do you have any Tums or Rolaids? They will help temporarily. I hope the doctor calls you back soon.

    Heartburn.....

Acid reflux is a very common side effect of VSG. Call your surgeon and ask for a PPI....proton pump inhibitor. Nexuim, Prilosec, Prevacid. Or you can buy the OTC versions. Besides being terribly uncomfortable, acid reflux can do a lot of damage to the esophagus, don't wait.

    Nervous

There is nothing that I have had to give up. I can eat whatever I want without any issues. No dumping, have not thrown up once, post op two years later this month. Sleeve O' Steel! What you can have and what you should have are two different things. Best thing I ever did. Also...Try Vitamin Water Zero or G2 for headaches, the electrolytes help. The pre op diet got much easier by day 5 but was still the hardest part of the entire process for me. Good luck! You can do it.!!!

    Dehydrated

A leak would cause pain, rapid heartbeat, fever, fatigue. Use the search function on this board for other posts about leaks. Did the hospital give you anything for the diarrhea? Imodium? What are you drinking? You may have become lactose intolerant or your Protein drinks may not agree with you. Vitamin Water Zero and G2 have electrolytes which are always good to replace when you have diarrhea. Hope you feel better.

How do I get through my Pre-op diet?

Vitamin Water Zero or G2 will help with the headaches. I was allowed all the low sodium chicken or beef broth I wanted. Can you have that in addition to water? I found that sipping it piping hot from a mug seemed to help. The first 3 days are HORRIBLE and then the hunger slacks off a bit. I went to bed early during those two weeks. It was the hardest part of the entire process.
  15. Are you taking an acid blocker like Nexium or Prilosec? Sometimes acid reflux could feel like hunger.

    Pre-Op Shakes...Help!

Try a ready to drink shake, better tasting in my opinion. Premier Protein is my favorite and the favorite of many here.

    Constipation

Miralax...it's non habit forming and mixes in cold or warm beverages. At the beginning I used it about 3 times a week to keep things moving along.
  18. Pepcid may not be enough....it is an acid reducer. Try an acid blocker like Prilosec, Nexium or Prevacid. Does your surgeon know of your difficulties and dehydration? Maybe they can give you something else for the nausea. I could not drink plain Water for the longest time. I drank Apple juice cut 50/50 with water. Try different things and different temperatures.....warm tea, cold tea, fruit infused water, Vitamin Water Zero. sugar free ice pops saved me at the beginning along with the apple juice. Feel better!

    Groupon had quest bars

Here in NJ my local Shoprite has them for $24.99 for a 12 pack with limited flavors available. $24.99 at Vitamin Shoppe on line.
  22. Are you on an acid blocker? Acid can mimic hunger.

    Mushy Help

Refried beans with some light sour cream is a decent protein source. I made tuna and chicken salad in the blender so it is smooth(like pate), you can use light mayo. I also put chicken or turkey in the blender with some gravy.
  24. Maybe because you were hunched over on the tray table? Maybe the Prilosec isn't working for you. I have never had this happen, I could understand how it could be unnerving. Try a different over the counter PPI until you can get your prescription filled.
  25. I was cleared to swallow pills at one month post op and have been taking regular vitamins ever since.
