    August 2013 Roll Call

Soy milk really does make a difference! The first day of my preop I forgot to buy some soy and used skim instead. My tummy was not happy. I use light vanilla soy (only 1g more of carbs and 0.5g of fat than regular) and I've been fine. Well.....as fine as you can be on this stupid diet.
  2. Absolutely! But you need to post a pic or you'll have to find me lol I'm at noon, what time is yours?
  3. We have the same date and surgeon! Small world lol

    African American Sleevers

I'm scheduled for this Tuesday! So excited. I need to do another grocery store run and give my house a good scrubbing this week. I'm hoping to get my hair braided this weekend, along with a mani/pedi. Who else is coming up?

    Sleeve in August

Hiya, Sassy! I prefer protein powders mixed with light soy milk. I tried a couple of the RTD ones and I can't stand the smell! It made me gag while I was trying to drink it. I'm not sure about the cheese sticks question. It really depends on your prescribed diet. I'm about halfway (YAY!!! didn't realize that till now lol) through my preop and haven't had a speck of cheese. I'm basically on Protein Drinks and brothy Soups. I'm going back and forth on the blender issue myself. A friend loved her magic bullet, although she used it for making baby food. She said it's great for individual meals. Some people seem to get y just fine without anything special but I need convenience too. I have read that the difference between the nutribullet and magic bullet doesn't justify the price difference. Good luck!

    Effects of Protein Shakes

How're you doing on your diet? My surgery is on the 13th =) Sorry for the late reply, my brain is kinda scattered these days. I blame the lack of carbs lol
  8. I'm allowed 3 Protein drinks, and 6 servings total out of the following: oatmeal, cream of wheat, 98% fat free or light veggie Soup, sf pudding, sf yogurt, no sugar added applesauce, lettuce/carrots/cucumber/broccoli with 2 tbsp of ff dressing. The serving size is 1/2 cup to a 1 cup. All the clear liquids I want (including sf popsicles, my savior the first few days!) I'm winding down day 4 and still have 2 Protein Drinks left. I had major tummy issues the first day, but that was an experiment gone wrong. I switched to soy milk months ago after hearing about people's post op issues with lactose intolerance. I bought skim for this week. Bad idea lol I'm back on soy now and all is well. My dizziness and headaches are getting better, although I still feel super scatter brained. Walking around the grocery store tonight made it slightly worse, yet I felt better once I got home. I'm also diabetic so my flailing blood sugars are contributing to my head troubles lol Yesterday I obsessed about pizza for about 3 hours. I just sat and chomped through about 5 popsicles till it passed. My only "cheat" has been a teaspoon of grated parmesan cheese in some soup. I don't even count that lol Today has been much better. This is doable, as long as you keep your eye on the prize!
  9. Not only that, my surgery is the day before yours!
  10. Me.....and it sucks lol 11 more days....ugh. My surgery is the 13th so we'll be suffering together!
  11. I'm an RN on a busy pediatric unit and I'm taking 7 weeks off. Partly for the lifting restriction (you'd be amazed how many kids launch themselves at you and just assume you'll catch them lol) and partly so I can have an eating/drinking routine in place before going back. I suspect I will be sneaking dixie cups of water between patients to ensure I'm drinking enough.

    Effects of Protein Shakes

Switch to soy. I switched at the beginning of my 6 month diet, anticipating having lactose issues at some point. I really can't tell the difference and they taste yummy with it. I've been using Optimum Nutrition but purchased some Unjury from my surgeon's office. My preop starts 7/29 so I refuse to touch them again until then lol

    Sleeve in August

I have all my Vitamins and Protein powders. I'm ordering my food scale and ninja from Amazon. I start my preop diet in 10 days! Eeeks. And....I am the exact same way about my appearance now. I cringe when I see recent pictures of myself =( It only started happening recently and it's annoying me! Maybe I was so in denial about how unhappy my weight made me that it's taking a major change to make me realize it. I dunno. i also feel like I'm counting down till my punishment starts. I've been working on this since December and kept getting more excited as I ticked things off the checklist. Now that everything is in place and now it's a waiting game, my nerves are getting the best of me. I need to kick my own butt and stop with the head games. it's starting to tick me off lol

    African American Sleevers

Hey everyone =) Glad I found this forum. I'm having surgery on Aug 13th and my biggest worry is about my hair lol How messed up is that?
  16. I'm glad this thread is still going I finally have a surgery date - Aug 13th! I hated the 6 month diet at first but really.....it was great. I quit caffeine, carbonation, high fat food, and discovered I really like running. Granted I can't run much or fast because it's too hard on my knees, but at least I'm doing something! I had my preop appt yesterday and I got my insurance approval letter over the weekend. I also added another week to my leave from work. My liver reduction diet is going to be a shock to my system. It's so low carb my endocrinologist and I weren't too confident I could work my busy 12 hour shifts without passing out lol I knew there was a reason I saved up so much PTO.

    6 month diet confusion

i would ask your doctor or insurance coordinator. I have a 6 month diet requirement and had my 6th weigh in yesterday. I still have one more appt in July (pre op teaching) and my surgery is in August. They weren't strict about every appt being exactly 4 weeks apart though.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I just found this group I'm a nurse but I happen to be tall, too! I'm about 5'10 and weigh in the 270-280 range. My surgeon didn't give me a goal. My personal goal is 160-170. I'm pretty sure I weighed that in junior high....
  20. Man....I feel like a total wuss now. I'm taking at least 4 weeks. More than likely 6 lol I need to write the hospital board a thank you note for our expanded sick time package!

    cincinnati sleevers? 02/26/13 sleevers?

I'm 5'9" and 275ish....but for some reason I'm feeling like it's gonna take a long time to lose. Hopefully I'm just being a pessimist. Cool - sent you a request!

    cincinnati sleevers? 02/26/13 sleevers?

Ideally I have 100 pounds to lose so I hear ya. I would LOVE some exercise buddies! I like going to the gym alone but with friends would be even better. I wish I could start my healthplex membership now, if only for the swimming lessons. I hope to become a jogger again. I live in the Hyde Park/Oakley area so everyone is always running or cycling in my neighborhood. I haven't met anyone else yet. I'm going to a support group next month and hope to meet some folks there.

    cincinnati sleevers? 02/26/13 sleevers?

Yup! I started it a year ago, decided I was being too drastic and could do it on my own. Um yeah.....that didn't exactly work out lol So now I'm in it for the long haul! I've actually got my labs and gall bladder US in a few hours. I figure the 6 months will give me enough time to work on my food issues and get an exercise program going.

    cincinnati sleevers? 02/26/13 sleevers?

I'm in Cincy and seeing the same surgeon! I won't be getting sleeved till June/July though, thanks to a 6 month diet requirement.
