I had my surgery 2 weeks ago, I started the pre op diet at 405lb. I was looking at the mini bypass at first and my surgeon sugessted the sleeve. I lost 23lbs on the pre op and I'm down 20 since surgery. I''m glad i did the sleeve and not the bypass. good luck with what ever you decide

@ Jiggly puff, I have a few questions. Regarding the 65 y/o woman, what was her BMI? How tall was she and how much did she weigh. Be careful regarding rumor, opinion, and hearsay, due to these being the lowest forms of information and does not mean it is a fact. What was her BMI when she applied for the surgery? Did she lose weight prior to the surgery IE pre-op diet? Did her BMI change after she applied for surgery and prior to arriving? These are key factors. You see, I went from BMI 35 to 33 and notified them immediately. I was cleared for the surgery again prior to flying. "Something's wrong with this picture" that you've described. When you "met this woman in the hospital", was she going to have surgery by another physician? It sounds like the woman wanted the surgery really bad and when she arrived, for safety reasons, the surgeon (s) would not operate. This is not a bad thing, this is a competent deal. How do you know she wasn't pissed because she wanted it so bad and then told no. It is very clear in the paperwork what the guidelines are. Oh, and FYI, she will be refunded her money if the surgery did not occur and not due to her backing out because of changing her mind. I know this FIRST HAND because I was one of her patients and received the paperwork. So, I'm curious on your answers, then it will either prompt me with further questions or give me more information to comment further. I believe there's more to this that you are either not providing or the woman wasn't telling.

Gotta love the sleeve, semi normal eating habits (eventually) and no "dumping" that's why I didn't choose a bybass method as my Dr recommended. Now I just have to keep at this and I too can get back to the size I was years and years ago...I hope.

THERE IS NO DOUBT I WOD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN TODAY!!!!! This surgery is the BOMB and I'd skate back into the OR today if needed!!!! I had sx March 21 and am 50lbs down. 316 to 266. Still have a small issue with tiredness but birds getting better. Find a good surgeon, follow the rules, and get your ass fit and healthy!!!! I was a major food addict and now if I want a sweet something then I take a bite or two. The craving is gone and no harm done. I think a lot of people think that after a sleeve your life is like boot camp but I'm here to say it frees you from the constant thinking of food!!!! Like a weight is gone! I eat WHATEVER I want but just smaller amounts. That's it!!!! PSOE say its not a magic bullet bullet but I'm here to say its damn close!!!! Love it!!!!

Bigepc reacted to gmanbat in Feeling Guilty...I took "the easy way out"
So there I was ...330 pounds of exhausted, heavy breathing, high blood pressured, diabetic, sleep apnea laden, shell of his former self humanity. I had taken the "normal" way many times, the slippery slope of hundreds of diets, miracle cures, and sure fire programs only to tumble back down in a heap, more unhealthy than before.
My wife began talking to me about weight loss surgery. She had been up that slope as many times as me and fell down with the same result. I was appalled that she would choose such a drastic step, I volunteered to hold a gun at her head at dinner time... in my mind the same as what she proposed. The batting of her big, beautiful eyes melted me down as it always does and I ended up at an "information" meeting held by the surgeon at our local Center of Excellence bariatric hospital.
My steely resistence melted away when I detected the sound of sound science and saw the many results obtained by the patients there. I came away from the meeting sleeve-minded to the shock and delight of my bride.
Now, a year and a half later, I am free of excess fat, diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and all that accompanies them. The only heavy breathing I do is when I run up a steep hill with 2 1/2 pound weights on each foot, carrying a 20 pound kettle bell, full speed, 12 times. Even then I am back to normal breathing before I hit the shower back home. This from a guy that used to compare the steps to the upstairs bedroom with Mt. Everest.
So now I feel guity. It was a lot easier to get the operation than suffer with the effects of obesity. It was easier to make an effective intervention than run down a thousand more dead end streets. It was easier to take a chance on life than taking a dirt nap that odds are would have happened by now.
But, you know, guilt can be earned or slapped on you by ignorant people. The same folks that charge you with the high crime of "taking the easy way out" would take the same route in a heartbeat if they weren't such lilly-livered cowards.
So I will file the guilt of "easiness" away in the same folder with the shock belt I bought some years ago that was supposed to melt away fat but succeeded in just making burn marks on my belly; the folder of dumb ideas.

I am Post-op....5 1/2 months...I HAVE walked the walk....& I totally agree! We ALL were told of the risks...we agreed to the surgery! If you didn't fully understand the risks..than shame on you for having 85% of your stomach removed without fully understanding! It is NOT easy...but I would def do it again!

I caught myself laughing at the gym today when I was looking at myself in the mirror as I was doing my weights...I just don't look like me anymore! It's a good thing - I can see my collarbones, my face is much thinner, and my workout clothes are starting to get loose. I just couldn't help but snicker a little...
