I’ve gained back much of the weight I lost after my VSG and really I’m interested in this procedure, any additional information is truly appreciated.

Great Info....still relevant so many years later. Thank you. I actually sent you a friend request on FB. I wanted to learn more about Dr. Alberto Aceves. I am also a revision surgery candidate. I had the lap band removed in October 2013 bc of complications. I couldn't do the revision at that point bc of too much damage and the insurance company didnt want to fund it. I'm now looking into Mexico bc of continued problems with the insurance company. Ironically, I already have the Insanity DVD also. Can't wait to get to the point where I can start it as well. I actually like working out so right now I feel like crap. Hope to get more advice from you. Thanks again.

Can not and will not speak on other surgeons but i used Dr. Alejandro Lopez and i site his first name Bc there is another Dr. Lopez.....he did mt surgery at Mi Doctor and I an happy with my results, my driver Abraham and Eduardo. They were all very attentive to me and my needs. I would recommend them. I am a lawyer and know te ramifications of the hearsay on these threads. People need to be very careful wht they say in print. Be mindful also that for many of these doctors it is also about feeding and providing for their families. I am sure you would not want ppl to spread gossip and untruths about you in your profession even if you are a stay at home mom....that is your profession. Likewise, the statements about "having proof" unless it is your own experience and or you were there it is still hearsay. If anyone would like to inbox me about my own personal experience with Dr. Lopez, and Dr. Ortiz I will be happy to answer questions.

Grrrrr. Today, "you're so skinny! I bet you feel great!!! But don't lose any more weight. We don't want you to disappear (patronizing tone)." She was trying to shame me in a group of people.
Me: so I feel confused. Are you giving me a compliment?
Then my friend jumped in and rescued the woman I was about to skewer.

Best: my doctor(pcp) told me he didn't even recognize me in the waiting room and told me I was doing a great job.
Weirdest::I am a teacher and when I came back to school in August my boss kept telling me I had such a nice tan and was getting dark. (She didn't know I had the surgery and you could tell she saw something different in me but wasn't sure what it was.
Awkward: when people say, I don't know what you've done but you sure look pretty now. Any "compliment" that kind of makes it seem like you looked like complete crap before your surgery
Funniest: I was telling my best friend how I hope I keep some of my butt as I continue to lose. And she told me now you can actually tell I have a butt! lol before my belly and back had so much extra fluff that it really minimized my rear and made me look like I had no junk in my trunk. Now I am evening out some so my butt sticks out more. Yay!

Lets all share our best and worst well meaning compliments about our weight loss.
My best was after returning to work after summer break: where'd you go this summer?! I mean where'd you go? Half of you is gone!
Oddest (considering it came from my mother in law): look at you! You're nothing but boobs!
Rudest: wow you lost all that weight and it found me. (Yes I am now responsible for others weight gain)
But the nicest compliments are the simple, you look great! I know they mean my weight loss and I appreciate the subtlety.
    What are yours?

VSG148Sz6 reacted to Obsidian in Almost 1 year later...
First off I will start by saying that I currently have no before & after pictures to show you guys as I am in no rush to show anyone what I look like since I'm still a work in progress... so.. sorry to disappoint on that front! I WILL add some eventually but not yet. Not even most of my family has seen what I look like and they are waiting impatiently! For me it's kind of a TADA moment. Like letting my family open a present.
That being said, I am down whatever it is my ticker says... some crazy number (lost 190 lbs or so?) which is AMAZING! I can do normal things now that most people I know take for granted and it feels great. My blood pressure is generally perfectly normal (unless my anxiety is high) and my heart rate at rest is something crazy like 48 bpm.
I've still got about 100lbs to lose. It feels like a lot yet but I try to keep it in my head that I'm coming up on almost losing 200lbs since I started this journey so another 100 can't be THAT bad.
I would be closer right now if I hadn't stepped off the tracks here and there more recently and sat around nibbling crackers and such instead of eating my Proteins. I have found through experience and experimentation that if I do not get at least 65g of Protein in a day with my drinks and greek yogurts then I get RAVENOUS. So good tip if you find yourself suddenly more hungry than you've ever been and even though you were never a nibbler before you just keep nibbling GET THAT Protein UP NOW!
The holidays were rough and I got down on myself through November and December. I even had some of my old ugly depression rear it's head which only made the carb nibblemonster worse. I'm back on track now for a little bit and the weight is starting to drop again without even adding back my exercise yet as I prefer to do it one thing at a time and not overwhelm myself (besides my daily chores keep me pretty active in our new house: loading large 30-100lb logs into the wood stove 2x a day, pitchforking 100lbs or more of hay 2x a day for horses, and running out to the coop to take care of our 10 chickens in negative temperatures and 2 feet of snow).
My 33rd birthday is coming up on the 2nd of February and the 4th of February is the anniversary of my surgery. My goal is to hit 249lbs by that date although with as easy as the weight comes off me if I just stick to eating properly (about 0.5-1lb a day) I should theoretically blow past that goal. After that I'll set a new goal.
I don't regret this decision one bit. I had zero physical complications and have had zero physical complications in the almost year since the surgery.
Mentally there have been complications of course. I let myself slip up, I've overeaten, I've been down on myself repeatedly for not "doing better" and I went through a bad breakup with my relationship with food since I felt like food was my only "joy" in life so what now? The process isn't over. I am still working through these things mentally and when I look in the mirror I still feel like I am that 450+ lbs person.
I don't deny there have been *MANY* physical changes and looking back at an old picture of myself I was like %#@&! but mentally things are coming along slowly... I am working on pushing myself past my comfort zones and into new things. It takes awhile! I can't rush it! I have to be patient with myself and patience with myself has always been a problem. Patience with all other things is where I excel.
Anyway, I will try to get some before and after pictures soon.. and by soon I mean when I feel I am ready. But I wanted to share a bit of what has happened since the first moment I committed to getting the VSG and the first time I ever posted here.

I had surgery in March of 2013 in MX. I used Alighterme. My dr was Dr. Alejandro Ortiz. He was very good. my recovery at Mi Dr. Is comparable if not better than what I received at Hackensack Hospital in ?NJ. Do your research and trust yourself. Anyone can make claims of anything good or bad. My Dr. In NJ was negligent in taking time to remove my lap band even though I was in obvious pain in the ER where he saw me but bc if was his sabbath had refuse go do my operation until Monday. Trust yourself to make your decision. BTW....if Abraham the driver for Alighterme us still with them you are in excellent hands. He was great and his service was impeccable?

Surgery went GREAT!! They gave me a TAPS block, while under anesthesia, so I woke up with virtually NO PAIN. The effect lasts about 16 hours, so took very little pain meds during that time. Left the hospital about 17 hrs after waking up. Now a bit more pain, but wouldn't call it excruciating. It's more back pain from walking like Quazimodo and sleeping sitting up. Unfortunately, I don't have a recliner. Tuesday, the Dr. will probably take out one drain and remove the dressings. I'm guessing the left drain will come out first as the output is about 1/5th of the right. Drains are NOT as gross as I expected. I'm able to 'detach' my brain, so it is just a bulb with red stuff. LOL. When I actually see where they go into me, that might be a different story
Thanks again for all the well wishes! I will take pics, when the dressings are off.
