This has been really easy for me. I was well educated about what to expect after the surgery and I don't find it hard to take my Vitamin and getting in my Protein. Now Water is a different story. I do have to work at getting my water in. It is a struggle at first but it does get easier. The sleeve is just a tool, nothing else. I couldn't lose the weight before and keep it off, now today I'm down to my lowest of 140.8. Yahoooooooooooooo! Love my sleeve and for me, it's easy........

Call me super positive, but, have any of you actually measured yourself? I mean really measured your thighs, upper arm, forearm, neck, waist, hips, chest?
Chances are really good that IF you are following the Dr's guidelines you are most likely having small body adjustments and have lost size. I encourage everyone to do this twice a month. I did it just so I can keep track and if I do ever have a plateau, I will know it is a true stall when EVERYTHING doesn't move. That is something I can show the Dr and NUT and we can work on figuring out how to solve the issue.
I know that the scale can give discouraging (and misleading) numbers, but cover up the numbers with a piece of masking tape and put your goal weight on the tape. Only find out this info from your Dr. at check ups because that is the weight that is going to matter when it is recorded in your record.
It is stressful enough trying to readjust to life post op and enjoy foods one at a time, why add more?
On another note, I did ask a few people in my San Diego Support group about hitting stalls/plateaus. Almost all of them swore by eating avocado with every meal for a week to break the plateau. When I can I will upload a .pdf file that explain a bit more about this.

Hang in there! The first two weeks were the worse for me. After that passed, each week got easier. I'm 9 weeks out and life seems back to normal (minus the food)... I still go through bouts of missing certain things, but nothing that I would consider trading my new tummy for.

I was able to eat pretty much anything one month post-op except very sweet things sometimes make me feel a little queasy. Just take slow and in small amounts and concentrate on getting your Protein requirements and you'll be fine. I personally think all things in moderation is a livable lifestyle as opposed to being super restrictive but this is a personal choice.

mokee, I really appreciate you having said this. I believe I too am a carboholic, and i'm thinking of the period right after surgery as being a "detox". I know it's going to be hard. But I also recognize how it's a vicious cycle with the carbs. So I'm thinking I'll be one of those people who will not be able to introduce carbs back and just have a little here and there. Thanks for sharing your experience and words of wisdom.
Best of luck and one day at a time Onward!

Please don't introduce any bad carbs this early. Let me tell you my story. I was doing great until my nutritionalist started me in trouncing crackers into my diet about 3 months out. Then I would taste some chips here and there and then some popcorn and then some fries until now at 5 months I crave sweets again and want bad carbs all day long. Have not gained anything yet but am not losing as I should. So if you are wise stay away from all bad carbs until you are at goal and you can introduce if you are able. I know that I am going to have to give up all bad carbs forever because I can not control my eating. I am a CARBOHOLIC. And need to attend meetings for this. There are a lot of us so we shouldn't have a problem finding members.

i am sorry you are going thru this however, if you read the threads it is very common. Your husband sees the changes that you are making and it is making him uncomfortable. My husband had the surgery with me but before surgery he used to say "yeah you are going to get skinny to find a new man." "He was teasing, of course" but I think that was a concern of his. Then one day he said it and I said My new man is in the making with me as i become a new woman. It shut him up and he never said that again. I think in your case your husband is just scared that you are going to get all hot and sexy and drop him. You have to make him understand that you love him and only him and you are not going to leave.

toy27 reacted to SqueakyWheel&Ethyl in Don't do what I did today (1 week post surgery)
I did a dumb thing tonight. I decided to go get more of my nutritional supplies at the grocery store. Skim milk, tea, flavored water, Soups, Jello, pudding, yogurt. A member of my household asked me to pick up some mini-donuts for her. No problem! I have no desire for that anyway. Then, I get a text to pick up their favorite sodas. Ok.
What I didn't prepare myself for was walking through the bakery and deli and produce surrounded by chewable food everywhere. Familiar foods.... Foods that I enjoyed before... And I walked past all of them to get my Soup and water.... And the other items. Needless to say, Ethyl was pretty distressed and put out with me for taking her in there!
The ghosts of Eating Past swirled all around me in that store. I told myself if I ate anything, it would make me sick. I KNEW that! It wasn't that I yearned for any one item. It was the psychological impact of knowing I was surrounded by familiar foods that I used to find pleasurable. I'd say it would be like placing a NEWLY recovering sex addict in the middle of the Nevada Bunny Ranch with free passes.
What did I learn and what do I recommend? If you have other members in your household ABLE to do the grocery shopping, let them. DON'T go into a grocery store when you haven't eaten solid foods in a week. Just don't do it. It is an unnecessary stress. JUST WAIT until we are leveled out on a regular diet before going grocery shopping again.
Did I succumb? I'm so proud of myself. I didn't. I raced home and made some Cream of chicken Soup and kicked back and enjoyed it. But, I'm not going back in a grocery store until I'm on solid foods. It is just too cruel.

Thanks Lynda...It's nice when those of us who are farther out stick around. I was my surgeon's 15th sleeve, (even though he has done thousands of bands/RNYs) so there wasn't a lot of "living proof" out there when I got sleeved. I'm glad we can be here and let others know that it's not that scary.
