I have done my research and I have chosen Dr. Alvarez. I was thinking of choosing a Dr. in TJ, MX so my husband approached a person from MX who had just been to TJ and she said stay away!! I am going to heed her warning and go to Piedras Negras, MX which she said is beautiful. There is No WAY I can tell my Mom or Dad or my Brother (He's an RN). They just wouldn't understand... I will tell them after the fact! Hopefully they will forgive me for not telling them. I am shooting for surgery in Feb of 2014 and just applied for my passport card today. Would love to hear of others experience with Dr. Alvarez.

That's awesome that she's so supportive! People are actually kind of ticking me off. "You did research this, right? Are you going to be able to let anyone know how you're doing?"
Naw, I just picked a guy out of the phone book in some 3rd world country and decided to let him poke some holes in me and mess around all up in my guts and I also decided to spend 2-3 times as much as other people to have it done, just for the heck of it!

Nice! Hey, it's 50 lbs! Love that.
I am in the 'slow but steady' group as well. Well, slower than I would prefer. I'm hoping I can say I've lost 30 in 3 months!

I was just thinking about this earlier today. I weigh every day. I do. I know some people advise against it, but it's the only way I can tell about what I ate the day/evening before, or my period, etc. and how it affects me. Some days the weight stays the same - to the OUNCE! - talk about frustrating - but I take it in stride and go on. There's always a little block of chunk that comes off here and there, and I have to have faith in the process. I am not a fast loser, as they say, I am down 30 lbs in two and half months. But I'll take it!!

I honestly only weigh once a week. I do it that way for my mental health. People have to work out a relationship with the scale according to their own needs, both physical and psychological. It's personal. I don't have patience for measuring, but I know my clothes are baggier.

I always say this - obesity is a disease like any other and should be monitored closely. Would we tell a diabetic to not check their sugars? Hell no. I think people here SHOULD be weighing in at least weekly. I don't agree with all the "stay off the scale" nonsense either and I am glad to find someone who feels the same.
I think its important to understand that there are a lot of factors that influence how and when the scale is going to move, but if you are afraid of the darn thing you will never learn and you'll always be leery of it for no reason. I know I hold water 3-4 days before and during my period. I wouldn't know that if I didn't have a pattern down.

I am anxious as well to see a difference, I had my surgery on Dec 28 as well, and I was getting a little down on myself at first because I thought I should have lost more weight by now. I lost 24 pounds so far since surgery date. I did not loose any weight pre op which I totally regret because I should have put more of an effort but it was around the holiday so... I had to think about when was the last time I lost 24 pounds in 3 weeks NEVER!! So on my road to getting finer and ever so fabulous I keep putting my best foot forward when Im on the treadmill and kicking it up a notch every day. I workout an hour every day. I started walk/
jogging and learning to be patient and humble myself. I know the change will soon come, hang in there by
the summer you will be beach ready sipping on mojitos, or at least that's my plan lolololol

Wow I agree!! 6 weeks out from surgery. Have lost 30 lbs since surgery. It is a struggle. I'm not sure why I thought this would be easy, but it definitely is not. I'm sure I would feel better if the sun would come out. Currently 2 weeks with no sun, UHG!!

Five pounds a week is nothing to sneeze at. I was sleeved September 26th and I have lost 44 lbs. That's 11 lbs a month. Now the first 2 weeks I was down about 10 lbs also. But it adds up. Even if you only lose 2 lbs a week from now on, in a year you will be down 104 lbs in a year, right!

Excess skin is based on genetics more than any other factor.. hopefully your mom blessed you with her elasticity in the skin gene.... mine did NOT. My boobs were saggy from the day they grew in and I've had a little pannus since age 11! Even my 25 year old 119 pound sister who has NEVER been fat has BAT WINGS! Thank GOD for the nip and tuck!

I believe the slower you lose it the less skin you develope. I now am developing extra skin. I went to se a plastic surgeon and he said I could do something now as simple as a tummy tuck. I to go through the same thing with my mom she losed her weight on weight watcher but she is small now and I say wow I will be there soon.
