Discovering I am wheat intolerant has been a blessing in disguise. (I am wheat intolerant but not GLUTEN intolerant.. I DON'T have celiacs and I can have other grains containing gluten.. weird huh?) Cutting out the wheat has left SO MUCH room for so many more nutritious foods! Now for someone who is Celiac, it's a bit more complicated since you have to be careful of even the tiny amount of gluten sneaking in .. you'll have to learn to read labels all over again, and be careful of cross-contamination, etc...
My recommendation would be not to fall into the trap of buying a bunch of "gluten free" processed foods and rely on them for your daily intake. They're typically very high in sugars and they're very refined (potato starch, rice starch, tapioca starch) Fine for a treat, but maybe not high in nutritive value.
There are MANY resources out there now for learning to eat wheat free or gluten free (NOT the same thing by the way) I would recommend joining an online community for celiacs so that you can really learn how to get a handle on it.

Bisquick makes a GF mix and it is sold in the local grocery stores and Walmart. It is in a smaller box. It is totally my go-to item. I use it everyplace I used to use flour. I take it with me when I travel. Zataran's has a fish fry mix that is gluten free. I use it to fry anything I would fry. Whole Foods and Trader Joes has a ton of GF items. Most restaurants have a Allergy menu and or the chef will cook a item to your needs. I also have apps on my phone that specify which restaurants have GF items and some have the complete menus. (Is that Gluten Free & ITGF Eating Out & GF Card). The whole food app has recipes, menus and grocery lists. I felt totally limited when I was first diagnosed but I feel totally good with it now. Blessings

My son was diagnosed coeliac at age 6, 8 years ago. It's as big a deal as you want it to be - don't worry too much. Takes a little while to get used to it, but you will. In Australia GF foods are increasingly available in supermarkets and GF bread an option in cafes - hope its the same where you are.
We eat GF "by ingredient", rather than just foods labelled GF. Reading the ingredients list and avoiding foods with wheat, oats, rye or barley opens up many more choices. A tip though - "glucose Syrup from wheat" is GF as it is so heavily processed all gluten is removed. This is an ingredient in an awful lot of things, so v helpful to know this.
Join your local Coeliac Society and get an "ingredients list" book. Bread is the toughest thing to find a fast GF version of, but explore and you'll find something you can live with. Good luck.

I may be alone in this but I have been looking at the unhealthy foods people eat while shopping in the mall, or while out socially in a restaurant. I was in the mall and saw an overweight man sitting at a table eating a triple burger, large fries, and what looked like a vat of soda. It really angered me. I thought to myself- how could he do that to himself? Please sound off and let me know if I am being crazy and judgmental or if you have had the same thought.

I was told that all liquids that are chemically made up of Water count as water... Even coffee, tea, juice, milk, soda... pretty much all liquid things except oils!
Somewhere in my instructions it also mentioned to "try" to shoot for about half of your Fluid intake as just pure water.. and the other half could be Protein Drinks, coffee, crystal light, etc.

I went to academy sporting good store and bought a huffy cruiser for 90.00 last week. I haven't rode in 34/35 years. I love it. Step daughter and I ride at least every other day. No gears or hand brakes, just a plain bike just cruiser style. They was actually cheaper than Walmart.< /p>

So, I bought a bunch of Protein Shake samples and have been having one a day for Breakfast to see which ones I like. I usually offer/make my dad and hubby taste them just a single sip if they're around.
Today, I was offering a sip of the Cherry Synthrax nectar shake to the hubby and he told me it was nice and then he dropped the following bomb:
Yeah, I can drink those if you get them for our 2 week liquid pre-op diet.
    WHAT? "Our" ?????
Then he goes on to elaborate that he plans on doing the liquid pre-op diet with me as he figures he helped me get so fat along the way he can help me get skinny too.
    Too cute!
Anyways, I guess I'll have to ask my NUT about him doing it too...

I just read some of these post. I don't blame you one but rollargirl. A Bmi of 30 - 39.9 indicates moderate obesity. Do what is best for you and what is healthier for you and don't let nobody get you down.

Lol thank you! I'm 35 this year ... And if I'm elegible now why on earth would I let myself get bigger and bigger to where ill have the possibility of loose skin where I would want even more surgery & obesity related problems .. I already have and have had PCOD for years which makes it harder to lose the weight. I don't see the point of lettin myself get more depressed and wasting my life any longer. Thank you to the girls who are supporting me being lower BMI ... And thanks but no thanks to the naysayers. you don't see me judging you for letting yourselves get so big that you're "the perfect BMI" to get this surgery!

I recently posted about this same topic in another area...I was sleeved on 10/8 at 260lbs I hit about 176 in feb and then just stopped losing! ugh it was so frustrating! I spoke with my doctor and his response was that my body simply had to catch up, that I had lost a lot fast with no prior stalls. He said most people stall around 200lbs and that is normal. Also to give you hope I started paying attention to what I was eating a little more closely...eliminating the carbs I had been munching on and returned to my running routine and today I am 167! so stalling is all part of this journey! Hope my experience has helped and good luck you are all doing amazing!

Inches lost is a good thing. scales can be your enemy. Surgeons office told me once you start building muscle you may lose slower just change the routine up and that muscle will weigh more. As long as you are losing inches you are losing fat that is always a good thing

Carol Watts reacted to Chaparra in Will you lose weight even if you've failed at every diet known to man?
I was sleeved on 02/11/13 and am down 22 pounds since the day of surgery. I don't consider this to be another diet. This is my new life. Getting the sleeve was just one of the tools I needed to help me in this new lifestyle. I would suggest that you see a nutritionist first. I was reluctant to do that because I knew what I should be eating and that I should be eating smaller portions, but what she taught me helped in all this. Yes, you will lose weight. There is no way not to when you are limited to eating such small amounts. The only way this will fail is if you don't follow the rules. These rules are just for the first year, they are for life. You need to prepare yourself for this. Research it, talk with your doctor. I know many people that don't have obesity or overweight problems don't think this surgery is a good idea, but those of us who have tried other forms of weight loss need this little push to get us going in the right direction. Good luck!
