VSG AJH reacted to feedyoureye in The 5:2 Diet
OK troops! That long awaited "New Year" is upon us. Time to get back on the wagon and ride it to victory!!!! Again!!!!! (We know we can do it) I got up and wrote down all I plan to eat today, because I can't trust myself to "wing it" at this point (or hardly ever it seems). It is fast day. I balk, but know I need to start the new year right, or it could become just another of the same string of days out of control. I know I'm not alone. Good luck girls! You know what you have to do....

Thank you 5:2! Hit my weight goal this morning!!!!! Damn I didn't know it would feel so wonderful....like I'm eight years old and it's Christmas Eve!
So appreciate everyone who took the time to post information here....the 5:2 enabled me to hit the mark!

VSG AJH reacted to Globetrotter in The 5:2 Diet
I don't want to speak for others but for me personally the greatest benefit from 5:2 is what Feed mentioned; the notion that, "hey I can always eat that tomorrow". It is really empowering and comforting and breaks down my relationship with food.

VSG AJH got a reaction from anaxila in "You took the easy way out"
This phrase irritates me so much. Everyone "takes the easy way out" on all kinds of things. Just because we rely on modern technology and conveniences, as well as advancements in science, doesn't mean we're lazy. I bet your sister drove a car and didn't take a horse and buggy or walk to reach a destination recently. She probably used a smart phone to connect to people via satellites in space rather than hand writing a letter. She probably changed a channel using a remote control instead of walking across a room (or having a kid do it). Still, no one accused her of "taking the easy way out" when she opted to take advantage of modern advancement.
Additionally, as you stated, there is NOTHiNG easy about WLS. I have counted more calories/carbs/protein grams in my one year since surgery than I ever have in all of my life. This is the longest I've ever "dieted," and I don't see anything about my present relationship with food changing anytime soon. I know it's the same for many, many WLS patients. People who accuse us of "taking the easy way out" really just have no idea.

VSG AJH got a reaction from Susan11803 in Holiday Challenge!
Yaaaaayyy!!! My weight this week was 183.9. I've not lost a single ounce since June 21 (weight loss stalled by three orthopedic surgeries , intense bone healing, and and serious mobility restrictions over the last six months) so this was a happy, HAPPY weigh in. Fingers crossed the scale keeps moving!!

VSG AJH got a reaction from blondebomb in Help me please! I continue to gain weight!
Lisa -- what about thinking of some replacements for these triggers? Maybe replace the separate cups of coffee and Protein drinks with Protein coffee? I drink Click, and there's another called Chike. They're tasty on their own, but you can blend in sugar-free Creamers or flavors to make it taste more like an indulgent drink. If you combine the coffee drink and Protein Drinks, reducing your overall quantity in a day, you reduce your calorie intake. As for the fudgecicles, perhaps switch to diet hot chocolate? One packet is 20-25 calories, and you still get that chocolate flavor. If it's the Popsicle you want, maybe switch to 10 calorie sugar-free Popsicles.
I agree with others that you need to take a hard look at this before it gets too out of hand, and while you should have grace for yourself, you should not allow your husband's passing to cause you to make excuses when it comes to your health and eating. Counseling is a great idea, but I've also been very helped by a local GriefShare class. New semesters will start in January. Take one day at a time, and perhaps begin tracking again so you can keep those liquid and snack calories in check.

Congratulations! What an accomplishment!
Best advice ever on my one year anniversary was to remember that year two is just as important as year one....keeping up the good habits.

VSG AJH reacted to herrre in Panniculectomy only after surgery. Any comments on your feelings after with the results.
Well, I received an early Christmas present. My plastic surgeon is awesome. We went in to do panniculectomy and I awoke to everyone saying merry Christmas. While she was there she did a mini Tummy Tuck. It took the same amount of time I was scheduled for. From what I can see she did an amazing job. Can't wait til Monday to get drain out and take a real look.
So happy I could cry.

VSG AJH got a reaction from carstanger in December will be 3 years for me... why am I suddenly so dang hungry?
Chelenka -- I am so, so sorry to read about your mom. My mom passed away 2.5 years ago from Oat Cell Carcinoma, an inoperable, aggressive type of lung cancer. Those days of caring for her were so difficult for me, and I'm praying for you that you're able to make the time to keep making good choices for your health. Many cancer centers offer support group meetings for families. Also, food-wise, this might be a really good time to do a little meal prep (or allow hubby + friends to help with this). I was pre-sleeve when my mom was sick, but thinking back, life was so emotionally difficult and physically challenging that we relied on lots of takeout. If you can do it, it might be worth grilling up a bunch of chicken or buying precooked meat, Protein bars and shakes, steamer bags of veg, proportioned fruit, etc. so you have good things ready to go. I know you know these things, but it is just so important you keep taking care of YOU while you take care of her, and that is very hard to do.
