I had the same procedure done in April! I had my surgery done in Dec. I was told a lot of people go through this. My symptoms were nausea, throwing up , hard to shallow , felt like food was getting stuck. My side hurt. It didn't matter what I ate, I threw it up. Sometimes I didn't eat due to feeling so bad and was throwing up. That's the worst! After, he went in and strength my sleeve a little, all was well! Thank God!

Could you please elaborate when you have a second after your intervention I think everybody would be interested in what were the symptoms and all other details. I certainly do.

Yes you can do this if its really what you want for yourself. The only person you have to convince is yourself. People are always going to talk about you good or bad, you just have to be able to bounce back. I can personally tell you as a man I felt at first that I may not need the surgery because I have lost weight so many times before, that I may not need a surgery but each time I dieted I failed only to gain more weight than the last time. Food was my best friend as well I was always eating no matter what, I'm an emotional eater 100% It didn't take me long to make my decision because I was just tired of eating poorly. I was tired of feeling like crap all the time, my belly was hanging like a Christmas ornament, and all my blood work was not good. Along with the mental depression of just being overweight and my clothes were always big as sheets, made me understand that if I want to enjoy life I have to change the way I live period. My wife was in the same boat as me of course so we decided that we would have the sleeve surgery. Sure there are days that I just don't feel like I have made progress and there are days that I feel like no matter how much weight I have lost that I'm still that 316 pound man that is almost out of breath every time I walk up the stairs. I have tons of more energy I'm feeling great I still eat food that I like, and I have the occasional drink or two. I don't have any physical pain, and the weight is still coming off. I'm getting compliments from my coworkers all the time,so it makes me feel good for a change and I love it.

I stalled for 2 1/2 weeks about the same time and then the scale started moving again. Hang in there! Your body is trying to get used to all of these changes and it needs time to adjust. Stay on track and the weight will start coming off again!

First of all I don't care who your partner is but no one will yell at my kids and ground then. I too am turning to other things instead of eating. I didn't realize I too was an emotional eater. Clean up after yourself and she will soon see who makes the mess.

Some times it just helps to take measurements and photos of your self and to see the visual change in yourself. Even though your scale isnt moving your internal body is changing and that will show up in a scale victory down the road. Congratulations to your new goals and I cant wait to see you victory dance show up on the boards!
    Be encouraged!

Good for you! I will say when I first mentioned having the sleeve done, my husband was not exactly thrilled. When we talked about his reluctance for me to have the sleeve it turns out he, like most people, didn't differentiate between the sleeve and gastric bypass. He knew someone who had bypass done 15 years ago and she had a bunch of complications. I gently mentioned that technology has changed in 15 years lol I explained to him what I knew about the sleeve and why I thought it was a good option for me. I also brought him with me to the informational seminar my center gives and as luck would have it it was given by the surgeon I wanted to perform my surgery. Hubby felt much better after this.
Having said that, he's the only one I've told about my decision. I just don't want to have to spend the next 3 months explaining myself and my decision. I know before I did a lot of research I was pretty ignorant when it comes to WLS - all I knew was I knew people from a former job who had had bypass and wound up gaining a lot of weight back. I suspect I'll tell my in laws as the time gets closer. Other than that, I don't feel the need to broadcast it. I plan on getting support from my husband, the support group at the center, and here
Best of luck to you on your journey!

Wow, that's awesome, it is a good feeling when the clothes start getting loose. It's only been a couple months that I bought size 16 summer clothes, now I wear 12. Shopping is so much fun now. Yes, I too have to pull out the winter coats and give away, size 2x.

I wish I had it done sooner. I haven't felt this good in a long time. I don't miss large quantities of food nearly as much as I thought I would and I certainly don't miss the extra weight. It just feels GOOD! You'll see. Congrats on beginning your journey. Blessings.

Yep, you are!!! Lol Just a note of encouragement - I am three + years out. 100 lbs lighter and love every minute of it! My advice - try not to think about the 85% part gone and focus on the 15% left. You will be very happy you did it, I predict. At least I was! Never looked back and love it!

PS--three pounds a week to me would be uber-fast! I guess it's all about perspective. It always fascinates me how people can have such similar weights, energy intake and output, and have such wildly different speeds of weight loss. As the poem that my dear grandmother loved (Desidirata) says: "Do not compare yourself to others, for there will always be greater or lesser people (weight loss), and you will become bitter or vain." This is easier said than done, but I work very hard to do it and count my blessings! I'm down more than 60 lbs (including pre-op) that I'm sure I wouldn't have been if it had not been for this journey.

Those of us who are fast losers post our success for several reasons, including:
    * Disbelief of our own good fortune - helps to say it and write it
    * Sincere desire to encourage others
I had no expectations that the "journey" would be so quick and easy for me. At a lower than usual BMI of 40, I expected it to actually go slower than for others. I do have a very fast metabolism, which causes shame rather than joy, because it means I had to work hard to get that big. And I did not do anything special, like work out (at all), or live on Unjury ( I can eat more than most and do!) to lose so rapidly. It just happened.
We are in total disbelief of our good fortune and we just need to share it, not for praise and recognition, but to show others that it doesn't have to be an uphill battle for every one of us.
So please tolerate us sharing our joy and success!! We share in yours, regardless of the pace!

I say I am slow by forum standards, but according to doc and nut I am where I need to be. I work out 5/6 days a week some days I eat 40 carbs some days I eat 80. Some days my calories are less than 800 somedays they are near 1000. I think what people need to remember is our journeys are all individual. I am pleased with MY progress and that is all that matters. Of course the post with someone saying they loss 50lb in 3 months gets attention because pre sleevers hope that will be them and post sleevers are wishing that was them. It just creates a vicious cycle of disappoint. I am not saying that person should not post their success , but people should be realistic and need to understand this process is different for us all. I stopped hanging around the boards because other people's whining about their slow weight loss had me doubting myself!

I have two coworkers who both had the Bypass and both eat things they and I were told we'd never be able to eat again. One is 9 months out while the other is about 11 months. I've witnessed both of them eatting chocolate at different times. I've watched one of them eat a whole Kitkat bar (normal size) and have no problem whatsoever. FTR....Both have lost well over 100LBS each. Their eatting habits haven't changed much except for the amount. Their intake is about 1/10 of what they used to scarf down.

I try everything. For me sweets in general never feel good going down. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) they haven't made me sick. One great thing I have found is Starbucks hot cocoa mix. I mix it with skim or 1% lactose free milk and seriously the chocolate is so good. It's not sugar free but it doesn't make me sick and it satisfies my chocolate craving.

Many families have the 'non traditional' christmas! We spent ours in our pj's after a christmas breakfast (no dinner) and a Big Bang Theory/Movie marathon, with pizza takeout for the kids for supper! As long as its fun and enjoyable, no matter how you spend the day. Thanks for sharing your cute story. Surely will be one to remember.

Lol , I can't wait until my husband gets to that point , he is also very excited to see my progress ... I was sleeved on Nov 13 , 2012 . I think that my weight loss is slow compared to others , I was feeling kinda down about it but have come to terms with it because myabe my slow weight loss is better then others.
My start weight was 237 , surgery date i lost 15 lbs , 222 lbs .. a week and half after my surgery was great , I had gone down to 216 but then for about 3 weeks nothing... today I jumped on the scale and it says 205 , so i am happy about that.
I was happy to read about your story , best of luck to you.

Thanks kimbernada for the info. I too hope my surgery is boring and "by the numbers". I haven't worn jeans for years now. I like the "George" brand of slacks they sell at Wal-Mart. I have to dress professional at work, except for casual Fridays, but I still wear the slacks. Fortunately, I still have lots of my old shirts and jeans from when I was in my 250 - 270 range. It's only been in the past 3 years that I've gained the extra hundred pounds.
I plan on taking my laptop and a boat load of "The Big Bang Theory" episodes as part of my hospital kit, along with a few of the other things on the "hospital list" I found on the forum.
I am looking forward to having the "problem" of having to buy smaller clothes every few months.
