Ughhh I'm only Down 45 pounds, but my husband can't seem to keep his hands to himself. I mean at first this was cute but now every time I turn a corner he is grabbing me. I'm glad he is finding me attractive, however I'm getting a bit tired of the groping. Anyone else having this issue with their significant other?

The sleeve has long been a procedure in other countries as well.
Its always a concern I think when you have a major surgery that affects an organ that doesn't regenerate itself. I'd rather have something partially removed and left in good working order than something added or rerouted. There's a whole design thing going on here and that actually works, so I don't want to disrupt the *ahem* flow of things :biggrin0:

Some things we just aren't going to be able to predict--like how much your stomach will stretch--because we each eat differently and there are a lot of other variables as well. The question about cancer is one that I asked my surgeon. He explained that VSG is actually much safer than bypass surgery in terms of possible cancer. He said you can have your entire stomach removed and still live. With bypass surgery, because a portion of the stomach is sectioned off, but not removed, that portion of the stomach can't even be viewed with an endoscope. Additionally, what you would swallow for an upper GI would never make it to that portion to provide a good x-ray image, so it would be very difficult to know what was going on with the bypassed portion of the stomach if you were to develop cancer.

AAAAUUUUUGGGHHHHHH! I am "doing it the right way"!!!!!!!! So sick of people stating "I have lost "insert poundage here which is usually between 20-30#" "the right way" through healthy eating and exercise. Well good for you! I have lost 104# through healthy eating and exercise. Put that in your pipe and smoke it chum! Damn that felt good to get off my chest! Whew!

I used my fitness pal religiously at first. Now I only use it to track my weight, it does a graph of loss and a overall lb tracker which I like. The only problem with it is I always have to guess at calories. They have thousands of foods in their database, but not at the serving size I can eat.

Welcome! I was sleeved on 9/17 and it went great! Sounds like the same kind of process like lap band. You might have to be on puréed longer (not sure if banders go straight to regular food right away). Protein is extremely important with the sleeve. You must get that in first. Remember, you'll be full after 4-5 bites, so make sure you stop when satisfied & not full or you will feel discomfort....best of luck to you! So glad I did this.

I told my immediate family and a few closest friends. My reason is that I know that I am sensitive to negative comments, being fat sure doesn't mean "thick skinned"! I did the research regarding wls and was 100% confident in my decision. I really didn't want to sell my reasons to anybody. If anyone were to ask me if I had wls, I would be honest. I just don't feel the need to tell the world.

I read at least two posts this morning, including this one by member charchar that mention not really telling people you know about going through this process of surgery. I can count on one hand how many people I know who know about my decision. It's an interesting dynamic. I'm usually overly forthcoming, but not with this. I realize I'm eventually going to have to tell people right? When I drop ~100 lbs in ~6 months, surely people will start asking questions.
What are my reasons not to tell them? There's a slim chance I'll back out. I don't need nay-sayers (like my brother already is). I guess the more I think about it is, it's a little embarrassing that I can't lose the weight - and keep it off - any other way.
So, which direction have you chosen and why?

So I'm a newbie here and met with my surgeon for the first time today. I had orientation last week and was told that I immediately needed to start my preop diet and begin working out. I was really nervous at first but meeting with my doctor today really calmed those nerves. After failing at losing weight all my life I simply worry that I will fail at this too... I have to quit smoking which has proven to be not easy but this is important to me and I will make the commitment! I have my psychology appointment on the 31st and after that I simply have to hit my goal weight, get blood tests, and pass a nicotine urine test and then I am in the clear to see the case manager and schedule my surgery date. I must say that things will probably move much faster than I thought they would. I've seen so many people who have had to wait months but thank god I won't have to. (Btw I'm a Kaiser patient). I weighed in at 248.5 the day of my orientation (starting weight) and today at my appointment I weighed 241.5. So I have already lost 8 pounds in only a week of following the preop diet, pretty happy about that! My doctor set my goal weight at 238 so I only have 3.5 pounds to technically lose before I am given that go for surgery. My personal goal before surgery is at the very most 230. Any words of wisdom, encouragement, and guidance are always appreciated...! Thanks.

Hi all... My surgery is scheduled for Oct 22... I am now feeling fear and anxiety... but not about surgery problems or complications... my fear is: What if it doesn't work? What if I go through ALL of this - I start my Protein fast on Monday... get the surgery, am in pain, yadda yadda yadda... and I remain fat? It's a stupid worry, but that is my actual fear.
