DayByDay got a reaction from kltklass in What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
There wasn’t any single moment, I just got tired:
I got tired of feeling like I had to apologize for the way I looked.
I got tired of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin.
I got tired of wearing clothes I didn’t like or fit.
I got tired of fighting my own biology.
I got tired of being a walking scale.
I got tired of being preached at.
I got tired of being labeled.
So on to the next phase of my life. I should have my surgery by February (2013). The bad news, I’m self-pay. The good news I don’t have to jump through insurance company hoops. Just one more doctor appointment and I’ll get my surgery date.
Already making an effort to loose weight, down about 14lbs. Just less to loose later.

DayByDay reacted to pinkpeonies in It's interesting how differently I'm treated these days
I work in HR. My primary function is benefits, but I spend a lot of doing on employee relations and general HR activity. By virtue of my job, I talk to employees a lot. I conduct new hire orientation every Monday.
I've always been an introvert, but really enjoy the social aspect of my job, because it's on a small scale and is limited. I have a lot of fun with it. But recently, I've noticed that people respond to me much differently. More positively. The same jokes I tell every week are a lot funnier now and get a lot more laughs and smiles.
My boss never used to give me the time of day. I knew she hated me. Since dropping 90 lbs, I'm her right hand. She raves about my work. I'm no better at my job now than I was a year ago! In fact, last week she nominated me for a prestigious leadership conference in London. No non staff level manager has ever attended. I'm a "lowly" hourly employee. This is a really big deal. I'm excited, and proud, but it makes me wonder, why now?
Just some introspective rambling, I suppose... it makes me almost embarrassed for my old self, and I want to give her a big hug. I wasn't a lesser person, or less funny, or more mean, or a crappier employee. I was just fat. Fat is a sin that just can't be forgiven by many.

Can I just tell you how excited I am? I've put off surgery 3 times in the past - once because I lost my job (and my insurance), and twice because my insurance changed to one that didn't cover surgery during open enrollment or only covered a band or a bypass (which I knew I couldn't live with).
I'm almost 4 months through my 6 month pre-op weight management program and we just got our open enrollment packet yesterday. FINALLY getting to go from one year to another without a change! I might actually get to have the surgery this time!
    Yay!

DayByDay reacted to Suzannesh in 5 years after having Weight Loss Surgery
    Hi Everyone,
I am celebrating year 5 of having a very successful weight loss surgery! I was 63 when I had sleeve surgery done, so it is never too late to have weight loss surgery!!!!
This was very best choice I have ever made in my life. I had my Weight Loss Surgery in Oct 2008. After a lot of investigating and considering all the doctors and places I could have my surgery. I made the choice to have Dr. Aceves in Mexicalli Mexico do my surgery. I was a self-pay, and believe me I really checked out every option there was. I was an older person and I really took my time to figure out what was best for me. I talked to a lot of different people who had already had weight loss surgery about who their doctors were.
It wasn’t something I rushed into. It took me about 6 months before I knew for sure that I was going to the right place for me. I also made the choice to have VGS aka the sleeve. I lost of total of 105 pounds and it took me 14 months to do this. Was it easy, yes and no? The 1st month was the hardest month I had to do. After that it just kept getting better and easier each month. It is NOT a magical cure. It is my tool to allow me to use to reach my goal. The big question you are thinking is have I maintained my weight loss goal? The answer is YES, I fluctuate between 5 to 7 pounds sometimes. I still eat healthy, make sure I get enough Protein and stay away from too many carbs. It accurately is a lifestyle change NOT a diet. It is easy for me to live like this and eat like this for the rest of my life. I have some really delicious meals and I never feel deprived at all. Do I eat deserts, yes and it is made healthy and is extremely good. Do I eat deserts every day; the answer is no. I love all the lifestyle changes I have made in my life and it will always work for me.
I was the person who hated to exercise. Now I do something every day. Last Sept, I thought I would just see if I could walk 7 days a week for a month and I did just that. Well that became a good habit and I walked EVERY DAY for one YEAR without missing a day. Yes, I walked outside when it was raining or not nice weather—I am always coming back home, so I will get dry if I get wet while walking. I walked between 3 ½ miles to 4 miles a day. Five years ago, I could have never walked that much. Find some type of exercise that you like and it will be easier to do. Start out slow and then add to it. You don’t have to do it 7 days a week, but do something at least 3 or 5 times a week.
I want you to know that you too can become successful at weight loss. I am 68 now and life is so different for me. If you are thinking about having weight loss surgery, I am living proof that it does work and you can do it too.

DayByDay got a reaction from gamergirl in Why aren't I happy with the weight loss?
Please don't be disheartened. Like everyone says here, it is a journey, it wont happen overnight.
I know that everyday I follow the rules and do what I am supposed to do is a day closer to goal. Some people get there faster some people get there slower, but I am determined to get there (eventually).
I've lost 44lbs in 7 months (since surgery). I know people on this board with my same stats who are 20-40lbs ahead of me. Why? I don't know. I exercise. I eat what I am supposed to do. It is just my body. As long as I know that I am doing the right things I know I will get there eventually. Besides, loosing at a slower pace gives your brain a chance to keep up with the weight loss.
    I follow this blog: http://www.300poundsdown.com/
This lady is a true inspiration. She is taking a break right now but her past posts are really inspiring.
    Take care.

I'm just 3 weeks shy of my surgiversary. My weight has been fluctuating by about 4-5 lbs for the last 2 months. I've lost roughly 108 lbs from my high weight and about 96 lbs from my surgery day. I'm going to run a half marathon on Sat and the distance running has me eating more carbs than I normally would (hence the fluctuations). I feel amazing.
Hubby is about 6 weeks behind me. Not sure how much he's down, but it's well over 125 lbs.

"Why are u getting sleeved? " was the question that I was asked over and over again. It was followed by the comment "you're not that big". It consumed me a lot. I dwelled on comments like this all the time. I stand 5'3 weighing 248 lbs. I always was overweight even growing up.i tried every diet that I could possibly think of. The result were I dropped a couple pounds and gain more . I realize that I had to stop and face the fact that I had and eating disorder. It didn't matter what I ate I just couldn't seem to get full. I would want more. I knew that I was risking every moment eating my life away. I was even told that I was "cheating" by getting sleeved and that I should lose it the right way. My response" if u haven't been in my shoes with being overweight with and eating disorder how dare u say anything".Getting sleeved on September 23rd 2013 means so much to me. It mean s that I can finally live and be happy. I hope that this can be an inspiration to someone that is considering the sleeve. Remember its ur life so why not live it ....xoxoxo

Lets all share our best and worst well meaning compliments about our weight loss.
My best was after returning to work after summer break: where'd you go this summer?! I mean where'd you go? Half of you is gone!
Oddest (considering it came from my mother in law): look at you! You're nothing but boobs!
Rudest: wow you lost all that weight and it found me. (Yes I am now responsible for others weight gain)
But the nicest compliments are the simple, you look great! I know they mean my weight loss and I appreciate the subtlety.
    What are yours?
