Oh, that's a good one! A mani/pedi!!!!

I have to honestly say...My husband is my best friend, and he has always been thin and active. Now that I'm getting in better shape, we are having FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN!!!!!! In EVERY sense of the word.
Life is good.

Please do not think that I am in any way, shape or form showing any disrespect to breast cancer survivors. My family is loaded with them and I have empathy beyond measure. But I wanted to reach him at his level. My husband went through colon cancer a couple years ago so I finally thought of a way to explain how I feel to him with the following analogy.

If I got news from my GYN doctor that I had breast cancer; I would certainly have choices over the kind of treatment I should receive. I could do nothing, live in pain and mental torture and eventually die of it (or complications of it). I could have a lumpectomy and pray the cancer didn’t return, or I could go for the mastectomy and know that with this procedure, I had the best chance of recovering from the disease.
Well, obesity is a disease! I am morbidly obese; I would certainly have choices over the kind of treatment I should receive. I could do nothing, live in pain and mental torture and eventually die of it (or complications of it). I could go on yet another diet and pray that the weight didn’t return, or I could go for the weight loss surgery and know that with this procedure, I had the best chance of recovering from the disease.

My best friend of 20 Years has remained my friend through most of my weight gain. She is a nurse and although she doesn't lecture me, we have talked about my health as it relates to my weight. When I told her of my decision she was very supportive. She is thinner than me and said that she can't wait until I'm able to do more stuff with her like we used to. When she said this, wow it hit me how much "life" I've been missing. I know she'll be my friend after the surgery and will probably be my biggest supporter as I go through this life-changing transition. I can't say that about anyone else in my life - I'm so blessed to have her!!!

OK I'm learning how to take these side by side photos. I need to do full body, hopefully this weekend. I've always hated taking pictures so willingly remembering to take photos of myself hasn't got into my brain yet Anyways this is me...6 weeks out and down 38 lbs!

I think it would be totally funny if you showed up that morning with a garlic lanyard around your neck & a bottle of "holy water" in your pocket. Hehe

Surgery went well. Very little pain just tired. Just had upper gi and no leaks. Had a big meal for dinner: two bites of Jello a sip of Water and 30 cc of ice. I am stuffed! Lol Getting some rest and will update later.

I am heading to get the hospital. I can't believe my day is here finally!

25 - new sneakers/workout outfit
50 - bike rack for my car
75 - Fitbit
100 - iPhone or dog to run with me
125 - trampoline (I have kids who would love this also)
150 - new wardrobe

Surgeon's office just called to see if I can change date from Oct 25 to Oct 22. AAAAAHHH!!!!
So I'm being sleeved 3 days earlier but that means I have to start liquids tomorrow!!! Excited but kinda freakin' out now!

I highly recommend reading the book "The End of Overeating". In it, the author details how the food manufacturing industry intentionally manipulates the content of sugar, fat, and salt, in order to make foods cause a chemical reaction in your brain that is identical to the reaction triggered by cocaine and heroine. If you're "craving" foods high in these, you are simply exhibiting the evidence of food having become (literally) your drug of choice. I became so furious, while reading this book, and that anger made it much easier to avoid those foods before and after my surgery. I'm 4 months post-op now, and have cleared all the junk from my system. It's very rare now that I give junky foods a second thought.
Be strong, and don't give in to the desire...it is simply your brain wanting that rush of chemicals. The longer you avoid it, the easier it will become!

I got a lot of "activity leads" from my Y. Plus, a pretty good workout. But, I'm very lucky to only be about a 5-min drive fom the house to the Y.
I worry about the friends issue as my journey towards VSG travels on. I already have a divide between my "best friend" as anytime I try to talk about it, she gets all hyper & says things like "I just couldn't do that...*I* know what I'm doing wrong..." etc (she's morbidly obese, too). Shes a nurse & has said that it just terrifies her, but she will support me. But her idea of support is trying to get me to change my mind & try the next fad. As such, I just avoid it. She lives an hour away anyway, so it's not like it's an everyday issue.
The other one is my BF... Our relationship is pretty steady, but lately he's showing weird signs (I think he's just scared & it's manifesting in weird comments/actions), but we are also very social & up until now almost all of our celebrations/dates, etc centered around food/drink. I'm afraid he's going to (possibly subconsciously) take my inability/desire to imbibe/gorge as a rejection of him &/or us. *LeSigh* We've talked about this & he's tried to assure me that my weight/surg would not be the takedown of our relationship, but who knows. I have faith, but faith can fail...
My family is great. I'm very lucky that my sister went first (RNY in 2010), so they are not phased at all by the possibility that I'll be going thru the holidays on liquids. My step-mother even said, "oh hell, we'll just find some sugar free pumpkin pie Creamer for your tea" haha <3

At my goals, I'm going to start learning to sew my own clothes since I'll be at the size where I no longer have to alter patterns to fit me. So learning a new skill to help outfit me for my new weight will be my goal. Not sleeved yet, have at least 6 months until then, but I know what I want. xD

My husband didn't approve of my slutty dress, he said you can almost see my butt, he said my butt looks very sexy. Lol, I told him then he needs to show off his sexy wife, he said he will take me clubbing for my bday:)
You ladies will have so much fun shopping!!!! I love that I fit in juniors!! I still sometimes automatically go to plus Size section... I sometimes can't believe it!

We worry about what others think too often. It's about time they share the stage!
