rosehips got a reaction from WantToDanceAgain in Slow down this success
I was sleeved 8/27 & am down 100 plus a few, I started out at 290. I am having this odd reaction to this weight loss. When I started getting close to 200, I wanted it to slow down, I got like scared but I don't consciously feel scared, I am happy, thrilled, loving life. OK, so the scale goes to 195, all is good, goes to 190, all is good, now it is falling below 190, I am at 25 lbs to goal and my head is screaming, wait, not so fast, help, I'm not ready. Ready for what? I don't know? Is anyone else experiencing any of these CRAZY FEELINGS?
P.s. most the time I love the scale going down, this comes and goes

rosehips got a reaction from Kindle in Is sleeve good for SERIOUS sugar addicts?
Hi, I had the sleeve 8/2012 so wow it has been 2 yrs. i lost 120 lbs over the first year & now i have gained 5-10 back, i lose the 5 & regain it. I am an active sugar addict, recovered alcoholic for 10 yrs.
the nurse at my surgeons office told us in a group class "i have never seen a person keep their weight off that returned to their trigger foods". I took this to heart for a long time. At 4 months I had 2 bites of chocolate cake & was scared to eat anymore in case I dumped. I did not. Over the next 6-8 months I had no interest in Cookies candy cake. I would take a few bites at say Easter & then I would gladly give away whatever I had to my husband. Time went by, my appetite has increased & I can eat a lot more. Sugar now talks to me all the time. I am completely readdicted.
I am now going to OA & was able to stop all the sugar & re lose the 5 lbs. Then I ate something & off I went again.
You might chose to google Dr. Robert Lustig. I watched his video THE SKINNY ON OBESITY & ADDICTION TO SUGAR. It basically explains we are trying to get more dopamine.
As others have said it is not the difference between RNY, sleeve or bypass. It is going to be you & your fight with your addiction. We are works in progress. I love being 110 lbs smaller. My energy rocks, except when I am on sugar. I am fighting the best I can. I highly recommend the sleeve as it is less invasive. My mom had the bypass & she does not dump & can eat anything.
I wish you all the best, watch his videos, you might learn something that will help you

Yes this will pass, take your Vitamins & keep pureeing. I was nauseous for months but it turned out to be a good tool to lose the weight fast. You have probably been told at a certain point you quit losing weight, could be 6 months, 9 months, 1 year. BELIEVE THEM. At 10 months boom it was over. Fortunately I lost 120 lbs, I am trying to lose 5 lbs now & it is crazy hard.

Howdy fitness freaks. Today marks the 30 day countdown till my long awaited TT surgery. Damn I'm excited. To Celebrate, I'm going to spend the next 30 days doing something I've never done before.....I'm going to run 100 miles in the next 30 days. Certainly other people have done it...even people on this forum have done it. But it will be my biggest monthly total to date. I never ran a step voluntarily until last year. Since then, my life and body have changed so much.....I can't imagine not having this great gift I've found. To me running is like a newly found super power....one that I never thought I'd have.
So I'm going to run 100 miles total between now and my surgery date of 9/30. If anyone wants to join me...walk, run, hike, bike .........whatever you can do.
BTW Laura-Ven has agreed to do the 100 miles with me.....so I'd appreciate y'all's help in making sure she does it. She needs your "motivation".

I'm 8 weeks out now and feel differently than when I first responded to this thread. 8 weeks ago I was still reeling from the shock that my spleen bled during surgery and I could have bled to death on the table. I've lost 31lbs since then and I have never felt better. It has been most definitely worth it for me. I need to feel that restriction otherwise I know I will over indulge. I could never have gotten this far on my own!

I am almost 3 months out from surgery and down 50 pound, my BMI was 58.8 and now it is 49.9. I still have a long ways to go but I will hang in there. We are need to support each other in a positive way. We are know this was not going to be easy but I think we are all doing our best. I feel so sorry for those who are having a rough time right now. Complications can come up anything during the 1st year after surgery and I hope and pray these are issues that can be helped with our surgeons and nutrionists. The not eating is a bummer but this is what we wanted, we had surgical intervention to help us stop eating and gain control over food and this surgery sure does do that. Anyone will gain weight back including myself if we do not learn anything from this. Most of us are emotional eaters, we eat when we are happy, sad, frustrated or feel that our friends and family just don't get us. I know I have an eating disorder and no Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or Nutrasystem diet is going to cure me so this surgery has helped me. I also have thryroid issues so it is just tough for me all the way around. My heart goes out to those folks who are sufferning from the surgery but really try to stay positive, we had all made the decision to have this surgery and there is not going back. Ebrace today and the days to come and with the help of God we can make it to our goals. I have already seen changes in some of my friends, some do not like seeing me 50 pounds lighter and this makes me laugh since I have another 120 pounds to go. If they are this way now, what the hell are they going to be like another 120 pounds from now? I think I need to start looking for a new support group and new friends. Hang in there guys we are on our way!!!! The journey is really a life long process.

Has anyone noticed another addition coming on? I guess that would be another topic.
I think a large % of people who do not think they are addicted are just not "educated, ready to admit, are in denial". Also a persons ego can prevent them from accepting they could possibly be addicted to something. I think Lauren-vats gut is right in the first place.
All of us who know we are addicted are one step ahead of the game in keeping it off. (I pray)

I am stuck 15 lbs from goal. I have lost 110 since 8-1-12. For me I get scared sometimes and want to stop the weight loss, like when I was 205, For some unknown reason I was scared to go below 200. Of course I wanted it but I was in conflict. Then I got to 185 & again got scared to hit goal. I am over the fear totally now but now the scale does not move. I exercise a lot. I need to record food.< /p>
Anyone else having these mental troubles when they see certain numbers on the scale. Oh & even though the scale is not moving My pants are getting much baggier. Hip hip hooray

FINALLY!!! I am FINALLY under 260 lbs 258 lbs as of today. OMG I thought I was gonna be in the 260s FOREVER!!!! I have been there since JANUARY!!! That was the longest stall/slow losing period I've had!!! I was really getting worried. I have not started working out. I started at 348 Aug 24th I'm almost 8 months out 258 today...down to a size 18 jean...XL or 14/16 top. I bought a pair of 16s for kicks and couldnt get them over my BIG BUTT!!!
If anyone says this is the easy way out they are SOOO wrong...I have to make the right decisons on the DAILY to eat the right foods. Which is a struggle but I am doing it!!! The only thing that DOES help is that if I do eat the wrong foods I can't eat much of it. bread doesn't sit well. Before bread and butter was a BIG problem.
I am almost halfway where I need to be. I PRAY I can make it...I PRAY we ALL make it!!

rosehips got a reaction from TheOldMeAgain in Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
I would do this surgery again because I was unable to lose the weight any other way. I had tried and tried and tried. On my 2nd PRE op appt w/ my doctor I discussed w/ my doctor that I should maybe go home and try for another year to lose the weight. He told me to go ahead, do that if I wanted BUT he said I would be back in 2 years with another 50 lbs on. The part that gave me enough nerve to get it was he said "the reason diets fail is we become too hungry & can't sustain the restricted food plan for as long as needed to get 100+ lb's off. It took me 5 yrs to go from "no, I am not ready to give up my food, I will just regain if I have WLS".....to "OK, I am now at my wits end, I am now ready to fight this addiction."
If I could have avoided WLS & been a happy person as I was, that is what I would have done.
I was not happy, my world was getting smaller & smaller. I actually was not aware how small it had become until my world started blossoming.
I am so sorry to the people who have had the horrible physical complications. I am thankful you have the nerve to speak out. Information is power.

For me, I agree. A secret loses its power after it is no longer a secret bottled up inside me. I have been fairly open about my WLS, especially with people who are large. I don't want them to think I have been able to accomplish this "on my own" because I don't want them beating themselves up of they are trying to lose weight without this tool. The people I have told have had a reaction that surprises me. A common response is "good for you". "congradulations, that took courage".
You have made an investment in yourself, so far this investment is not paying off for you, I hope you are able to get some therapy, this change takes more than working w/ your nut & doctor....my eating is/was mental not for hunger. I don't know you but I sure do care about me. What you are going thru could have been me. It took me 5 yrs to become willing to give up my food. I did a lot of counseling to get to this point.

rosehips reacted to SqueakyWheel&Ethyl in 7 days from Surgery.. Pre Op killing me.... Is it a sign that I am not for the VSG?
Ladies, PLEASE don't let discouraging words of others make you doubt yourselves. You must be hanging out in a different area or board than I am. I rarely see negative! And, what little I see, I don't internalize as part of my journey.
I researched this for a couple of years before I had mine done. I'm sure you have, too. From all of those I know personally who have done lap-band (4), 2 have been successful. The other 2 are both over 300 lbs right now. It is not difficult for the band to fail. One reason is slippage, medical complications that warrant retreat, etc. another is when the person manipulates the situation intentionally and self-sabotages.
With the sleeve, it's a LOT harder to sabotage yourself. Your body just won't let you that easily. And, unlike the band, you can't change your mind and reverse it. You REALLY are committed.
Let me share one more interesting piece of info rarely shared. I asked for the sleeve. My surgeon asked me why I selected that option. Then, we discussed my medical history and he said I would never be a candidate for the bypass surgery anyway. I'm excluded from it. Why? Because I am EXPECTING to need a liver transplant in about 10 years (hoping never...) and when a person gets the full bypass there is critical tissue removed that MUST be in place to have a liver transplant. Forgive me. I don't recall the name of that tissue, but it gets removed with bypass surgery.
So, I told my Dr, NO-ONE should EVER get a bypass, then! What if, through illness or injury, they need a liver transplant someday? He said they factor that risk in when deciding to do bypass. It is usually reserved for those who are at highest risk to die from obesity soon.
So, please set your sights on a positive goal with the sleeve and don't consider bypass unless it is your only hope. And surround yourself with people who will lift you up and encourage you.
I personally try to balance the elements of my life with
30% Receive influence from people with more knowledge and experience than me (LEARN)
40% Surround myself with positive thinkers on a similar path (GROW)
30% Be there for those who are starting out and could benefit from my journey (HELP)
    Nothing in excess.

China mama your plate is full! This is the advice I have:
When you call your ins co tomorrow, ask for "the Medical Director responsible for the approval of your procedure."
THAT is where the buck stops. You may only be allowed contact with a nurse in that office, but that's where you need to be. Tell her that you understand you have met all of their criteria and need to understand why there are more delays. Give them the chance to explain their stall tactics. Then, ask, "if you were me, what would YOU do to get this resolved ASAP?" Keep putting it in their lap.
Offer to send it Fed Ex for next day delivery. If they say, USPS only, ask them to justify the logic behind that. Remind them that all these delays are only increasing the risk of an emergent situation and it is in everyone's best interest to resolve this and move on.
I would be on the phone calling, leaving messages, etc EVERY SINGLE DAY until you are satisfied. SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the prayers everyone. I also totally agree that the timing needs to be right, but I also know the band is causing more damage the longer it's in.
