Holly5.3 got a reaction from logicwand in Save me a call to the Dr. please. Calcium carbonate vs: Calcium citrate
I'm not sure if this is "scientific evidence" but I accidentally bought Calcium carbonate via on-line bariatric surgery website. After enjoying the scruptious chocolate covered caramel chews (3X a day) for about a month, I noticed my hip bones starting to give me trouble (I'm not a spring chicken -- 52, but now I'm the new 32 after my sleeve! But my bones are still 52!) I checked the ingredients to see if maybe they were the "wrong" calcium supplements-- lo and behold they were not calcium citrate! Boo hoo! I am now taking 12 Citricell minis a day (4 with each meal). They are smaller so go down easy, but boy I miss those caramel chews! (They also had 30 calories each, so I think they contributed to my "stall" at that time as well! My hip bone no longer aches, so I think that the calcium absorption may have been affected as well.) Hope this helps!

Thanks Skittle! When you read posts that sleevers say they have no pain, returned to work in less than a week, etc. I feel like there must be something wrong with me! At least your post addressed my concerns about work and feeling better 2nd week. This sounds more realistic to me w/ the way I feel now. Peace!

I have 5 "holes" and my hernia was larger than my surgeon thought Pre-op. I was released a day early, surgery Thurs. morning. I'm in a lot of pain - it hurts to cough, forget sneezing (OMG!) I'm supposed to return to work on 10/22- the way I feel right now is that's impossible! Please someone tell me how much longer for the intense pain! Percocette takes the edge off, but I'm still so uncomfortable!

I thought I'ld start a thread asking for recipes for the puree stage that you couldn't have survived without. I started this stage yesterday and spent a good hour scrolling thru posts offering ideas before I went grocery shopping. I thank God for someone suggesting Hormel Chilis. They had turkey, beef and one can left of chicken and white bean. Had the chicken just now-heated about 2/3 cup in microwave. Put in Magic Bullet to puree. It looked weird but boy was it tasty! First thing I've eaten in about 5 weeks that satisfied my taste buds! I could only eat about 1/4 cup, so next time I know to heat up only 1/4 cup at a time until I can get more down.
For dinner, I'm making a ricotta cheese casserole, also an old recipe I found, so I can have Italian as everyone eats pizza after trick-or-treating!

Awe, you are certainly a girl who loves and respects her dad-admirable quality! I bet your dad has old fashioned ideas about WLS. Maybe you should bring him to a seminar and/or the surgeons appointment with you, if possible. My surgery is next week and while I'm open and honest about it, I'm surprised with some feedback I've received, too. People don't know about the sleeve and the harmones that affect some people who CAN lose weight, we just can't keep it off for long and ultimately regain what was lost - plus more! That's just not the best quality of life! Good luck, hopefully you can go forward with the surgery this year!

For me, the last straw was not being able to get up out of the ocean surf this past July- I actually grabbed at my 16 year old nephew to help save me! Embarrassing!!! Oh yeah, showing off the "new" me- I gained 77 pounds after losing 70 a year before! Fun!! Slip on shoes-can't bend!! Huff 'n Puff Holly- I can't breathe!! Surgery next Thurs. - I've lost 22 Pre-op (I'm hungry, but dedicated!) I can't wait to get this party started! (scared, too!)

I know what you went through! Even though I don't feel hunger (yet, or any more!) my mom stayed with me after surgery until this morning. My first few days home, she's making pork roast with gravy, etc. Then 2 days later I wake from a nap smelling my childhood favorite, corn fritters! Really, Mom?!?! I was a little mad because it was my favorite and my girls weren't going to like them-they eat very light. Fried foods, except chicken, doesn't appeal to them. She overheard me tell my sister on the phone that I thought it was kind of insensitive for her to be frying up a batch of fritters, so she went on a cooking strike for a few days (too funny! Like I cared-I was on liquids!-lol!)

Let me put it this way, not that anyone really cares about my input... some days you miss food, some you don't! But I rather cry my way down a size when everyone else can't lose weight eating Buffalo wild wings, pizza, etc.! In time we can eat everything, just an appropriate amount for a normal-sized body! The choice is simple: don't have surgery and gain more weight. Have the surgery. It's hard work, but in a year or two you can eat and be healthy and more attractive too! Food is fuel, not life!

Happy anniversary! You look gorgeous! Nothing worth having in life is easy! I too have my struggles withy sleeve (9 months post op), but I cod never have made it this far without the surgery! I too struggle with weight loss expectations, but I'm learning to not be so hard on myself. Self-hatred allowed me to rationalize eating myself to death. Now I too am busy living life. I haven't found much support in recent months for my posts, so I try not to post too often. I feel chatty today! Keep up the good work! You'll make your goal. Be patient! It's not a matter of 'if' you do -- but 'when'! So be kind to yourself!

Hi there! I'm a young 53, sleeved Oct 11, 2012, and have gone from size 24 (278 lbs. Last August) and I am now 200 lbs, size 16. People say I look 20 years younger! Mind you they can't see under my clothes, the flabbedity, sagetty skin, but with my Spanx on and a good bra, the image looks pretty good. Naked is a whole different thing-but my husband's not complaining, believe me! I've hit my first stall, other than that and a little Constipation early on, it's been great! Looking forward to life instead of just looking forward to food! Good luck!

Hey fabulous Fifties!! I will be 54 on July 23rd. Sleeved 9 months ago on Oct.11, 2013. Last August at my 1st Bariatric surgeon's visit, I weighed 278, and wore a Lane Bryant size 22-24, 2XL. Today, I weigh 188 and wear a women's Large, size 13-14 (Macy's size "0"X). I am a bit flabby, but I am so much smaller-I look a million times better! Pre-sleeve, I was always hot and sweaty, flushed, not feeling or looking well at all. What a difference a year makes! I feel 20 years younger!

My sexual energy isn't what it used to be, by far, but I still can't say I want more or less. The problem for me is I'm married to a horn dog and as I get smaller, he's rediculous! I have two teenaged daughters in the house! I just can't when, where and how he'ld like! it's not fun, it makes make super uncomfortable when he's around-I feel I need to avoid being near him! Help!

You need to stop obsessing over the weight and losing it- a positive attitude is more than a state if mind, it's part if self-fulfilling profacy! If you truly believe that having 75% of your stomach removed will not help you become a healthier being, then you are probably going to prove yourself right. Change your thoughts -- change your words -- change your life, I feel sorry for you.

I apologize! I truly never would intentionally hurt anyone's feelings. I was trying to emphasize that our thoughts affect our weight as much as what we eat. I am 54 and I am a lifetime dieter and now a sleever. Only wanted to be helpful in a 'snap out if it!" Cher in Moonstruck aortic-way!

Also an Ocober 2012 sleever, my loss plateaued and is finally picking up again but I'm only losing 3 pounds a month. Look at content of food. Empty calories are the killer! If I don't eat enough (no appetite plus it's too hot out) I actually gain weight! I went back on 2 Protein meals a day (a bar and a shake) light dinner and started the loss again. you must have enough protein, Water and Calcium supplements each day. Change your thoughts to positive affirmations, "I may have stalled but its temporary as my body adjusts but success in permanent weight loss is mine. I claim it. I'm living it and doing it!" You had the surgery- you can't give up, girlfriend! You CAN and WILL do it!!!
