Kapoorvilla reacted to deedeemuffin in Hating Myself & Afraid Less than 6 Weeks Out...Long Post...Needing Support
I am hearing this a lot. The reoccurring theme seems to be my plan is very restrictive & that may be why I am having such a hard time sticking to it. I have to say the week of water I was WEAK & shaky. I was dizzy. I couldn't drive. I could barely get up. I called the doctor & they wouldn't clear me for anything else. Thank God that is over!

I have to say that I have not had that pain eating yet, but maybe if I start eating more food rather than liquid I might get a full feeling. I have a feeling for most of us every day is a fight for quite awhile. Maybe even the rest of our lives, but I did not fight today. Tomorrow I will!

We are all learning. Our doctors all have different opinions. This is a learning adventure. It was suggested I up my calories and my surgeon told me my carbs was to low at 20-30 carbs per day. He said my body needed more carbs than that to be healthy.
Not to sound like I know it all, this evening as I ate supper I knew I was behind in calories today. I felt the chest pain and I took a bite felt it again and took another the I thought I need theses calories I am going take another bite. We can now mark most of supper off my intake. I had a lean beef patty, 1/4 cup greens and 1/2 small potato baked no toppings. I eat the Protein and greens but that potato should have stayed on the plate.
I tell you all that because we are learning to try and balance what the doctor says we should do verse what our bodies tell us we should do. It is an unperfect journey. Tomorrow we fight again!

My instinct right now is to eat how you're describing. It is just contrary to my surgeon's offices plan. I am one of those people who feels the need to do things "perfectly". When I don't, I just throw it all away. It is something that I am working on. Maybe the plan they have is not the right plan for me. I night need to adjust my thinking...eating healthfully & mindfully but not as rigidly as my worksheet says to do. My surgeon is Dr. Wayne Weiss & I am in New York. The Hudson Valley area. I know my surgeon's office has a support group meeting twice a month near me (many more not so near to me). I have just been afraid to go. Afraid that I'm the only one doing badly.

I too had a wait for my surgery. I started in Feb of 2012 and was sleeved Dec 5th 2012. I am really happy that I followed my NUT suggestion and stopped caffeine, carbonated soda, and empty calories back in early Feb. I read post of those who only stopped those foods when they reached the preop diet and they are miserable fighting craving while trying to adjust the sleeve.
I am only unhappy that I got so caught up in "let's hurry up and make this happen" I failed to look at the risk objectively. The surgeon's office is selling a product so they gloss over everything unpleasant. Those here on the form do not, so read about complications and find out the truth of what could go wrong. I got a pierced bowel because my surgeon made a mistake cutting scar tissue. It made for a week hospital stay but worst my family feared they were loosing me during the hours/days it took to get things under control. Read about leaks. Yes they are all rare but I a proof as are many others on here rare happened to real people.
With that being said I am a type 2 diabetic, and have hypertension. All meds were gone days after surgery.

You've lost .57 lbs a day average which is great! Stalls happen (for me a lot) and they suck but your skin & stuff is adjusting during that and as long as you are drinking Water and eating mostly Protein you will lose. I started at 310 the first week of May, 285 on surgery day 5/25, and this morning was 188.6. 8 full months, 121.4 down.

I would tell him. The more he becomes a part of your life the more he is going to discover. It is unfair for him to be caught off guard and have a reaction he would regret.

Even gas can feel like hunger.
As for calories I was getting only around 700 at 4 weeks out. However someone suggested I eat every three hours to keep metabolism moving. If I eat all I have logged in my fitness pal that will be 904 calories. I say if because some times I can't finish the meal I plan. Now at lunch I am trying to eat a hormel complete. I don't think I will eat it all and that is repeated at other meals so maybe 800 calories is more what I am eatting.
As for liquid I have seen a lot of folks worry about not being restricted enough during liquids. That will change as you progress to regular food.

I really believe the " you will breeze right through" is the kiss of death! If I am every in a pre op waiting room and some one says those words to me I will run screaming through the halls gown flapping wildly for all to see!
Of course if they ever get me back to OR it will be because I am to sick to crawl away from them.

I went through this a bit before pre opt diet. Many call it a food funeral. Just have your mind set that you will stick to the preop and post op diet.

Kapo your comments are spot on. I have two dear friends, one with luekemia and another with lung cancer. Both have always been thin and healthy. The lung cancer victim does not and has never smoked. I lost a coworker to cancer a few years ago. He was thin and healthy other than a little cancer. I actually can't think of an overweight person who I know who has cancer....I'll have to think, but really, none come to mind.
In addition, almost everyone I know who has heart issues could be described as a 50 year old white man in moderate to good health.
Being overweight significantly can tax your heart, but my grandfather and great grandfather, who both lived to 100 were overweight and eventually died of phenominia (which I can't spell). There is no "thin is healthy and fat is not" when it comes to either of those situations.
As to the stint questions, I just wanted to answer with a brief answer since my experience is so much different than most. For my repair they used a tool called "The Claw" which is new technology. I did not have a stint nor drains nor antibiotics. We discussed a stint but my surgeons didn't like them because they cause so much discomfort to a patient for an extended period of time. I knew going into surgery it was a possibility, but was happy to learn I didn't get one when I came out!
