BigGirlPanties reacted to PdxMan in BBQ Post op?
I eat BBQ frequently. But it is going to be a little while before you can be back full swing. Beef and pork were not on my plate until 6 months post op. BBQ ribs were one of my favs as cooked properly, they are nice and moist, which helps with digestion.
The bottom line here is to remember the boat you are in. You just had 85% of your stomach removed. The stomach is the mechanical part of digestion ... and it has been severely reduced. meat, beef especially, requires a bit more processing time to get into a mushy phase where it can pass through the pyloric valve. This is why we are directed to eat lean Proteins first as it is going to give us the "full" feeling longer.
But advancing too early or eating too much can cause great discomfort as your stomach may not be ready to handle such foods. The storal to the mory is to take it easy reintroducing foods back in. Don't push yourself too much. Listen to your medical team and follow the basic guidelines:
Lean Protein first, then veggies Don't drink 15 minutes before, during or after meals Take small bites, chew well and put your utensil down between bites assessing how you felt before taking the next bite. Exercise Good luck!

amazing how the English language has suffered over the years... along with acryonyms and such with texting, it's even worse! (wow, I hope I spelled "acryonyms" right) ... what I miss is common courtesy ... what happened to "please", "thank you" and "you're welcome"?

Had my surgery done on October 1, so still in the healing/liquid diet process...
my journey started almost 3 years ago when I was having problems with my knees due to arthritis, and therefore was gaining weight due to inactivity. I was only working temp so I didn't want to start up the process after going to the first seminar and finding it could take several months...
...advance forward over 2 years and I was finally on track again; was full-time, had FMLA, and was covered for the surgery; and let's not forget the weight I had gained since I first started thinking about the operation.
There was no doubt that I was going to get the sleeve from the first seminar, it seemed like the best choice for me; and well, for ANYONE... the lap band was too "flexible" for me, didn't like that idea; nor of going to the dr regularly just to have it adjusted. The bypass seemed so drastic, plus you HAD to take all kinds of Vitamins as your body would not absorb them anymore... PASS!
So here I am, one week after surgery, down 25 pounds and feeling good already.
I have a LONG way to go, but with the support of my medical team, family, friends, and the VST, all will be good!
    Thank you EVERYONE!

my doc office gave me suggestions...let's see if I remember:
    robe
    slippers
    toothbrush
    toothpaste
    brush
cpap (if you use one, they tell you to bring yours)
pillow...most people feel better with their own...use a colored pillowcase
I brought a deck of cards with me last time I was in the hospital, I liked that better than using my phone for games.... good luck! I go Monday!

LOL...we all have our quirks! When I was an attendance manager, at a call center, most of the reps would start out with "what had happened was..." ... and I knew to sit back and be entertained for a bit with their story telling... I wonder how much of all that was ever true

everyone has to gauge that for themselves...but it's not just the job... tho a "sit down" job would be easier to go back to... but the driving, the eating, and they say the way the anethesia affects you... so everyone is different... but don't try to do it too soon!

Totally random story yall may appreciate.
A month ago I bought 2 pairs of skinny jeans from Old Navy, size 22 and size 20. I decided 20 were too tight and returned them. I went to put on the 22 today for work and they were kinda tight too but I thought they would loosen a bit once I moved around. They did and I started thinking I looked pretty good!
I got to work and went to the bathroom and I realized that these are the size 20 and I returned the wrong pair and the 20s fit and looked good!
Little victories help me through the day!
