  1. Yes I agree with Cheer Mama, the GasX strips were a lifesaver. I also had some biotene dry mouth spray for when you come out of surgery and cannot drink yet but you need your mouth to have a little more moisture. Get up and walk walk walk! This and the GasX strips will help with the gas pain. Not sure if you are married or if you live with someone but have things prepared for when you return home with whatever your NUT and surgeon have told you to eat/drink after surgery. You dont want to have to go to the grocery store on your way home. Be patient with yourself! It will take time to lose the weight, you will have stalls but you WILL lose the weight! Set goals for yourself along the way, not just the final goal. Some examples are: 1st 5 pounds, BMI goals, Clothing sizes etc. If you are an emotional or boredom eater, be prepared to have other things to do in place of eating. Have someone to talk to, go for a walk, take a bath, exercise, but be prepared to have to deal with this. Also, it was good for me (and my family) to clean out all the foods that got me in the position I was in. All the fast and easy foods like crackers, Cookies etc. If they aren't around, they cant be a temptation because they very well can be. You can do this! Keep coming back to the Forum and get/give support. Let us know how it goes!

    hair question

I had my hair colored a few months out and it didnt seem to be a problem. I started losing hair about 5 months out and it slowed down around 7 months but I am left with a large patch on the back top part of my head (which is normally pretty thin anyway) that is barely covered with hair. I have started having to wear my hair up in order to cover the spot. Like I said, my hair has always been extremely thin and baby fine. Going to have to think about getting a new style to work around that area. I hope your new "DO" looks great to match the new "YOU"~

    Yeah! No pre op diet...again!

Great! It is funny how all dr's are different! Hope things go well! Just listen to your dr and nut and be patient with yourself and you will do just fine! Congrats!
  6. Well I think a lot of people have this issue and have food funerals. So you are not alone. It is best NOT to do this but I dont believe that it is going to mess up your progress afterwards. If you can begin now to think about what you are eating and try to chose healthier alternatives it can do nothing but help your future eating habits. After you get sleeved you will not be able to eat like you have in the past. At least for a long time. Not sure if you are a goal maker but if you arent, start by making a goal a week until your surgery, Like this week work on getting in at least 10 glasses of water each day (you can add in crystal light or whatever), next week make a new goal of cutting back or cutting something out of your diet (along with the 10 glasses of water daily) the next week add another goal maybe an exercise goal. That way you can ease yourself into this new lifestyle. That is what I did and it has helped. It wont be long! You can do it!

    Back to Taekwondo!

Congratulations! It feels good to get moving and it being easier to get moving with a little less weight on our bodies! I keep telling my husband that when I had all this excess weight on me that it would be like me walking around with a 50 pound suitcase, then a 70 pound suitcase, and now a 90 pound suitcase etc all day long! So glad you found some type of exercise that you enjoy, it will make all the difference!
  8. You will be fine! No worries! It will be over before you know it! Just breathe and try to think of happy thoughts!

    Sleeved april 8th

Everyone is different so try not to measure yourself with other peoples successes or losses. You have done a great job and have lost a LOT of weight. Your body will need time to adjust because soon it will wonder what in the world is going on. Dont be surprised or discouraged because you will begin losing again! Keep up the great work and be patient. It wont be long till you look in the mirror and see a new you!

    ACID REFLUX

Just talk with your dr and he can prescribe you something. Dont feel weird about telling him because this is a very normal side effect and I would guess that most people are on something for it! Hope you feel better soon!
  11. The one thing that I dont like, although it is probably what normal people do, is having to think about everything that I eat and making it count. Although I am hard pressed to find anything that I dont like about my sleeve. I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!

    Swallowing Pills after surgery

I was told not to take any pills for a while after surgery so I didnt try but now I can take a handful of vitamins and other meds with no problem at all. Good luck!

6 months post op... Stall... Broken!

Great job! Those stalls are no fun at all! My husband doesnt have the sleeve but is just working out and dieting along side me and he has hit a big stall and I had to tell him that it will all work out just be patient. I have seen too many of them over the past 9 months not to totally understand the frustration that comes with it. I did the little divas boot camp once during and stall and it broke it too but then I stalled again! haha It does come off, just take one day at a time and let your body work things out! Keep up the good work!
  14. Dont worry, you will get back on track soon! You can do it!
  15. Just be patient, your body is freaking out wondering what is going on. It will happen, you WILL lose the weight, there is no way that you can't! You had your stomach taken out. Be patient, realize that your body is doing its best to protect itself. You will step on the scale and realize you are losing again before you know it. Dont get upset, dont get discouraged. It has happened to most if not all of us, just try to keep doing the things that you are supposed to do and it will work (stressing wont help at all). Before you know it, you will be posting that you made your first goal! You can do it! Just breathe and be patient!

    First Goal achieved!

Congratulations!! Setting goals have been a great thing for me. A great motivator, a great way to have set times to Celebrate and a way for me to measure my progress! I love it when I hit a goal and sometimes when I am so close to a goal it will drive me crazy but when I in fact hit that goal or surpass it, I am over the moon! Keep up the great work!!!!!

    The scale is killing me

It'll move when your body is ready. There is no way that it wont. Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing. Try not to look at the scale every day (although I do every every day) I keep a chart of my weight loss and this also helps me to see that at times that I stale but that it is always just for a time. Dont worry too much about it! It happens to us all!!! I have been sleeved for over 9 months and I have stalled off and on the whole time! Just be patient! You too will be down a ton of weight before you know it! You can do it!

    2 days post op

Hey there, YES! I went through the "oh my goodness, what have I done!" Then remorse for not being able to eat the same things while my family ate. I went through thinking how terrible it was to eat and drink now and how my life would never be the same. BUT I dont know when it happened, but there was some point that this new journey became habit. I no longer have trouble eating, I know how to eat slowly, chew well, small bites, protein first, lots of liquid. My family is now eating healthier since I have been AND I have almost lost 90 pounds and have realized that when I lost the ability to eat as much as before, I gained so much more!!! I gained a healthier lifestyle, I gained more energy, I gained more self confidence and I am hoping that I have added years onto my life. Yes!! I was scared at first but I can honestly say that it was the best decision of my life! Just take it one step at a time and pretty soon things will calm down and become a new normal for you! Heres hoping that is soon!

Pre op diet- not doing so good

Yes the pre op is the hardest because you still have your big tummy and it still wants what it wants! BUT there are so many reasons why you need to stick with this diet. If you have messed up, then vow to start anew and do better tomorrow. Go ahead and set goals for yourself and concentrate on one meal at a time. Get anything that might cause you to stumble out of your house like cookies, chips, ice cream and candy. If it is out of the house, it is a lot harder to screw up. You need to do this and you need to do your very best to ensure that you are successful on this journey. YOU CAN DO IT! Take it one moment at a time!

First time going out for dinner

I would check and see what your NUT has cleared you for. I was on mushy's at that time period and I could have mashed potatoes, hummus, yogurts, Soups. You still need to be very careful, your tummy is still healing. Maybe you could take something with you to eat while he is eating. Congrats!!! They grow up too quickly! So glad that you are getting healthier so you can enjoy life better with him!

    Piece of cake!

Well I had a great experience! I have had both gall bladder surgery and the vsg and I think the vsg was much easier. The only pain I had was from the gas and it helped to get up and walk and also to keep GasX strips on hand (they were a life saver!) I got a little nauseated the day after my surgery but that was from some of the medicine I was on. I didnt really have much pain and didnt take much pain med. It wasnt bad at all. Hope yours goes well!

What am I doing to myself?

Hey Darlin, This new journey is hard and yeah, you shouldn't have eaten that stuff but you know that. Just take this as a turning point and make a stand to do better. You will screw up from time to time but let that be later on. We dont want you to damage your new tummy while it is healing. If you start to feel like you are struggling, get on here an talk to us, dont give into those food demons! You can do this!!!!! Just let your tummy have a little time to heal an then you will be able to eat baked potatoes and chicken before you know it. Stop beating yourself up, just get up, dust off and start over! Good job about being prepared for tomorrow. Keep that up and get rid of things that could sabotage you...if dont bye them and dont keep them around, it will be much easier on you! Remember you can do this and you are worth it! Sending good thoughts your way!

    loosing the booty :(

Well I have never had a booty and since I lost weight it is even worse. haha The worst part (since it has never been my best asset) is that my tailbone hurts bad now. I have had to purchase a pillow to take places with me to sit on. Thinking about getting some of those panties that make you look like you got a bigger one! haahaa!
