Thank you so much for your honesty! I haven't even called the doctor yet, too scared I will fail like I did with other plans. The head hunger you spoke of is what scares me. Example of my head hunger= my daughter rattled a bag of chips last night and it was like someone rung the dinner bell for me to grab something to eat. I am so ashamed. But saw that sometimes it's in my head. Calling the doc tommorow. but I would love to get a hold on this before surgery. Again Thank You

I was sleeved back in June of this year and I'm surprised now regarding how hungry I can feel and how much of some things I can eat. I have discovered if I eat foods that are not processed (ham, greens) I get full quick!........but girl, I can eat me some Cheeze ITs........those things just go right in and right down sooooo easy.
I don't know how much weight I've lost - somewhere around 35-40 pounds. I don't really care and I don't weigh often at all. I think it was all that obsessing that got me in this shape (round, rotund, obese) in the first place...........but I do know that I now wear a size 16 jean and I haven't done that in more than 15 years!
Hang in there........this sleeve thing is very interesting and seems to be unique to each individual.

I am a week out of surgery today and 3 days ago I got the worst hunger, I seriously wanted to eat EVERYTHING. I have been so upset thinking that this surgery might have been a mistake and totally beating myself up. While reading your post I had a breakthrough, I too am pms-ing. I felt like a ton of bricks were taken off my chest when you mentioned this in your post, I realized that IS whats wrong with me. I always get insanely hungry during this time. I was so worried I was always going to feel like this since my surgery is so new but now I know it will pass. You have no idea how much this post meant to me, Thanks for sharing your experience and making me realize what was going on with me !! Best of Luck to you!

Hang in there! I have complete faith it WILL get better!!!
I got some great advice while struggling with my hunger so I will share it with you, If your going to cheat, try and cheat on the healthy side! How did the pizza toppings and cheese burger set in your tummy? Was it heavy? Did the grease bother you?

Casein Protein? It's slow release. Also, during PMS your body needs extra calories (I read this in Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Strength)
As much as possible I would try to take everything in stride. Use a different type protein. They're supposed to stick with you longer; or are you still on clear liquids?
Slipping and sliding and getting back on track is going to be part of the journey, I guess. If you will accept that you are not superhuman and that being forgiving to yourself is going to be important, maybe you could shift your mental effort into self-forgiveness. I think that would be more productive than feeling terrible.
I'm not speaking from experience so possibly none of this will help. I haven't been to my cycle yet. But do be kind to yourself. About that part, I am sure.

Its good you realized it was just PMS and it will pass. Four days after surgery I started getting the same thing. I actually havent been able to gauge how this sleeve will work for me because Im so rediculously hungry all the time. It really sucks. If you have had your sleeve for a bit I assume things will go back to how it was before! Hang in there!

Be careful about hunger vs Acid!!! This is a very common misunderstanding! People think they are really hungry when in fact its the stomach making an over abundance of acid, and then you eat things like crackers to calm the acid!!! Make sure to be takinga PPI (like over the counter prilosec or nexium) your doc should have prescribed. When I get really hungry- it's almost ALWAYS because I forgot to take my PPI. For a few weeks I was taking it twice a day- any day I miss or forget I suddenly get ravanous around noonish- so make sure to take your meds! If not you can get them cheap over teh counter as well!

Thank you so much for sharing! I went out to buy protein and I was suprised by how high the calories were. 170 for 30grams and they all had some sugar at rite aid. I decided to order online instead. Are there any low calorie sugar free brands that you all might suggest?

I agree with Sramos, what is done is done and all you can do is live and learn from your mistakes. No one will be perfect on this journey, I know I havent!
Wishing you the best of luck

Get the protein in it will help with the hunger. I cheated with 2 oreo cookies the other night and I paid with foam vomit about 15 minutes later. Im 2 months out but why would I eat a freaking oreo?? I won't beat myself up, I will move forward and make better choices and so should you. Good luck.

It's done sister don't beat yourself up! Our stomaches were changed not our brains and that change is going to take longer. Let it go, are you getting your protein shakes in? If you do feel starving and need to cheat, do it on something that you are approved to eat like sf pudding or something soft that won't hurt your tummy!

I have over 150 lbs to lose also. I saw two different PA's at my surgeons office and they both strongly pushed the bypass on me. I freaked out for the week before surgery. Obviously I wanted to have the weight come off but I really started weighing the pros and cons. Even if I lost 60% instead of 75% of my excess body weight I would not have to deal with malabsorption with the sleeve. I had my surgery thursday morning and I am so very happy I stuck with my original choice. I have healed up so quickly and pain was so minimal to what I had thought it would be. Ive lost 12 pounds in 5 days. It really boils down to if you are commited to following the nutrition plan you will get your weight off. It might be more of a "strugle" since we dont have the malabsorption but if you do it right, you can get to your goal! Follow your heart!! Best of luck to you.

i am still pre op but i have received my diet paperwork before surgery and my NUT specifically says protein is a must!! are you getting protein from oatmeal>??? i highly doubt as much as you would an egg or a piece of low fat cheese or even a greek low fat yogurt. i would try to revisit with your NUT to steer you back in the right direction. your diet just seems to lack protein and frozen meals the sodium in those can be really bad for you. when you get a 1/4 of what everyone else is happening. ask yourself if your eating protein, veggies then starches and carbs last IF there is any room left.
hey congrats on the weight loss so far!! i would LOVE to be 30 pounds down from where i am right now!! good luck to youuuu

I was reading your other post about gaining 4 lbs and just wanted to let you know your weight gain is almost surely caused by this time when you didnt intake protein. Your body goes into starvation mode and now that your eating mushys it is holding on to every calorie you eat! SO hopefully a little more time on the mushy stage will kick your body into weightloss mode Best of luck!

Feeling great now I can absolutely identify with the folks who are having a rough go of it post-op.
My weight was 318 when I started - and this morning I was 219, one more lb. and I am in the century club - then another 18 down and I will be under 200 for the first time in a looooong time. My husband was the same starting weight (we really are twins lol.) and this morning he was 207 - and is now just overweight, no longer obese. We had no idea that these great changes would happen so rapidly.

So I was looking through your posts and you have this great topic posted on the 30th of July that says 4.5 months out - 80 pounds down. That means that you lost over an average of 4 pounds a week! That's incredible. Can you blame your body for needing some time to adjust? =) Stalls are crazy difficult things. I had a 3 week one when I was only 3 weeks out and I thought I was failing at another weight loss journey. Then one day it started moving again, simple as that. I think yours will be the same.
Look through your nutrition records - are you getting in all your protein still? All your water? Are you creeping up on calories?
I think the gastric sleeve is definitely for you. You didn't gain the weight over a six month period - to expect to lose it all that quick is not only not as healthy as losing slower, but you would have tons of loose skin! Do you measure? Are you losing inches in these three weeks? Maybe your skin is tighter than you'd be with RNY. Maybe you're healthier, have less vitamin deficiencies. Three weeks feels like forever, but in the scheme of things, it's really not. You are doing amazing. Don't give up.
