I weighted 242 pounds and lost down to 175... and then gained it back in less than 6 months. Stress I guess. I noticed that it was getting harder and harder to walk and then my knee started to hurt all of a sudden. Really bad.
I went to a doctor someone recommended. He did a CAT scan and said it was a bone bruise and it would get better. I went the next month and he still said the same thing even though it wasn't getting better. Finally I asked him to give me something for pain and he gave me a prescription for darvocet for one month. My friends said he wasn't doing anything for me and I should go to another doctor. I went to another doctor who acted like I was some kind of drug addict for changing doctors. But he gave me another prescription for darvocet. A few days later I forgot to take the darvocet and went to work and couldn't get up from my chair to go to the bathroom. I called my doctor and he was on vacation. I went to his backup doctor who actually diagnosed my arthritis but gave me arthritis medicine, how about that, a brace and a steroid shot. He told me if I didn't lose weight I would need knee replacement surgery in 5 years.
Now, I had a doctor recommend WLS for me years before. But that was when most of the people you heard about getting WLS were over 300 lbs and I only weighed about 220. But now smaller people were getting it and I was facing a choice of knee replacement surgery or WLS. And then the wife of a friend of mine had gastric bypass surgery and lost 170 pounds. My friend kept at
me to get it before it was too late.
Then in April of last year, I met my beautiful new granddaughter Desiray. And I want to take her to the park and the beach - museums and festivals. Bike riding and swimming. And I want to move to Central America when I retire and be another grandma doing zip lines in Costa Rica with my granddaughter.
Plus, the process has gotten me diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, sleep Apnea and something called Hypertension-Related Heart Disease, without Heart Failure

Here they are - size 10, 163 lbs. a little tight but I can zip and button them.
My friend found the picture of me 2 years before surgery. I'm not sure what I weighted but I weighted more right before surgery. I think I might have weighed 225-230.

I can't believe how much I walked today. First I walked to McDonald's (.62 miles) , I usually get an egg mcmuffin and eat it open faced.
From there I went about three blocks to the Kroger. Didn't buy anything because what I wanted was perishable and my thought is I needed to go to the bathroom. I was on my way to the bus stop to go to Walmart to get a few things. I stopped at the dollar store and got some small food containers that I'm going to use for my soap making.
But it is Sunday and the buses don't come but once an hour so I decided to start walking and see how far I got.
The total walk from McDonald's to Kroger, walking around Kroger and then walking to the bus stop and then walking down three more bus stops I estimate by mapmywalk.com to be (1.51 miles) not counting walking around I did at a Dollar Store and Walgreens and then I walked around in Walmart and carried two bags of groceries to the bus stop. Then I sat down. Waited for the bus and hoped on and rode to a place that was about 3 blocks from my house (.72 miles). Then I walked to the Neighborhood Walmart (one nearer our house but doesn't have what I needed earlier from the big Walmart) and got some milk for steel-cut oatmeal.(.75 miles again). I think I walked at least 4 miles today.

My knees don't hurt very much anymore. Only when I walk around for quite a bit. And a really big thing. My boyfriend says I don't snore anymore.

I'm down to 179 now, weight is going real slow. The main reason I got this surgery is because my knees hurt so bad I had pretty much become immobile. The doctor I went to for my knees told me that if I didn't lose weight, I would have to have knee replacement surgery in 5 years. Well that was about 3 before I had surgery last September.
But now that I'm down to 179, I was able to go down the stairs, walk all the way to McDonalds (and get an unsweet ice tea). I don't know exactly how far it is, but here's my route. I walk down my stairs, across the courtyard to a little road that goes to the front of the condos. I walk to the right and go past my condos on the right, past Amelia St. which is a short block, past the big beehive apartment complex to the Walmart access road. This road goes behind Autozone and the big post office on Longpoint. I walk to Walmart and take a break at some picnic tables they have out in front for about a minute or two. I walk across the parking lot, through Taco Bell's parking lot and cross the street at Longpoint and Wirt. From there it's past the bank on the corner to the McDonalds. Sat and drank my ice tea and when I left to walk back, I didn't stop at all. I'm going to use MapMyWalk to see how far I went.

My knees continue to get better. I can walk up the stairs without holding on and without pain usually, sometimes I can almost run up the stairs. I can go down the stairs better too but it still hurt a little and I think some of that maybe be more psychological that actual. I don't feel the need to hang on for dear life, but I still hold onto the rail.
My weight continues to go down but slower. I discovered the other day that I can squat a little. And I can do kicks when I dance again. I had forgotten that I used to do that. I am going to try to commit myself to going to sleep a little earlier. Ten o'clock and then waking up at 6 am to do Jorge Cruise's 8 minutes in the morning program. It requires no equipment and can be done anywhere. I bought the book years ago and haven't followed through but I think I might be ready now. I have to be at work at 7 but I work from my home. Right now I get up about 6:40 am but if I get up at 6 I will be able to get a good 40 minutes of exercise. I could even do the 8 minute routine and then do 32 minutes of cardio by walking around the apartments. I haven't started yet but at least I have a plan. The hard part is getting up 40 minutes (or even 8 minutes early). I would just get up at 6:30 but there is a learning curve in doing each exercise, you have to read and look at the pictures and then attempt to do what they say. Maybe I can also find a video somewhere of the moves he suggests in his book.

I have gone from a 42DD to 34DD. I think 34 band is the smallest I'm going to get. I can't wait to get to 34C so I can start buying bras at Target and Walmart again. 42DD is easy to find at Walmart - they don't carry 34DD or 32DD.
I was told at The Bra Experts the last time I got down to 34DD that the band usually goes down first and then the cup size. I think the smallest size I ever wore was a 32B but that was when I was about 15 so not sure if I'll get to 32DD or 34D next. Hope I'll fit in 34D soon.

Here they are - size 10, 163 lbs. a little tight but I can zip and button them.
My friend found the picture of me 2 years before surgery. I'm not sure what I weighted but I weighted more right before surgery. I think I might have weighed 225-230.

I thought those leg massager things were the coolest things. Wish I had them at home just for how good they felt.
