  1. When I started this journey in May I was determined to have Lap-band. Like a friend said.. "why cut out part of a perfectly healthy organ?" So after meeting with the surgeon and hearing the presentation I decided to research the long term effects of band and sleeve. I joined this forum and it's "sister" lap-band forum and hit the complications boards. After hearing the horror stories on the band forum and seeing how many more complications there seemed to be I decided the sleeve was for me. I remember one lady saying she was hungry all the time but could barely swallow water (even with just a tiny fill). Then a coworker of my husband is a year out. My husband said he watched him at lunch one day take an hour to struggle and get two bites down before he just gave up. Sure they say it's reversible but then I saw how many people had scar tissue even after removal that caused them problems. I'm not trying to make up your mind but do what I did. Check out both boards.
  2. I can't stomach even the thought of any dessert flavored protein. And the bubbles from the unflavored are just as bad. I'm just picking high protein foods to get to my goal protein. I really wish I could find something i could tolerate. Right now homemade frappuchinos are my morning protein shake.

Question For 3 Days Post Op

I was the opposite. The first week all I could drink was warm liquid. About day nine I could finally tolerate cold liquids. First week I struggled to get around 30-35 oz in. Reason I couldn't tolerate cold is because it gave me stomach spasms.

    Missing Person?

Then do share.... that's what the OP was asking for. From what I've learned on this forum the well know surgeons down there are very experienced and successful. Not everyone has the option ($) to have surgery in the US. Also please do not insult those who have a different opinion than yours. This does not make them "nuts." To the OP... do a search for this topic in the forums. There are many members who can give you first hand information about this experience.

    Getting Drainage Tube Removed

Not really sure if it was painful... I almost passed out, it made me very nauseated, I started shaking, and cried for a second. And I consider myself to be pretty tough. But I had not been prepared for it at all. Within a minute or two I was better. But I had to lay there and compose myself first.

    Hunger Hasn't Gone Away...why?

  7. I was the exact same! I am 29 and have a 4 year old. I cried for about a week over this. My surgeon asked me about being nervous... i told him not about the pain or nausea... I'm just worried about waking up. I told him if he just got me through surgery I could handle the recovery. I am a nurse and have worked in surgery. I know how rare death during a surgery like this is. But most mothers go through this. I am almost 4 weeks post op and laugh at myself for how I acted. I am sooo glad I did this.

    Feeding The Husband

The first week I had pre-made alot of dinners for my husband and son. Week 2 was easy stuff... velvetta box meals, etc. Week 3 (puree) i cooked more normal since i could mash up some. I'm almost to week four and I LIKE to cook normal food for my husband to take to work. I am not hungry so it really doesn't bother me. Yea I wish I could eat it but I'm fine that I can't. Tonight i made him a sausage sub with sauteed onions, jalapenos, and bell pepper with mayo and cheese.... yum! and some apple pie my mom sent over. I'm also the nut that watched the food network like every day while recovering. Lol. I appreciate good food much more now.

    Deep Scabs...

As a nurse I say "NO" But...... lol..... I had a really strange scab left after they removed my drain. It was (excuse me for being gross) from where it drained around it and burned my skin. It wound not heal there and my skin was healing upward instead (almost like a keloid) and this hurt! So I worked for about a week trying to remove it. It felt soooo much better after. I think the reason i had so much trouble is because the scab WAS the old skin and it just wouldn't let go. Now it is healing inward. I did not have scabs on my incisions because they used Dermabond (the glue stuff) on those and by the time it wore off my skin was 100% healed. Oh yea i was sleeved on 8/27
  17. My roots are bad but I was very scared about this. Great topic! Glad so many have had success. Now i can make my appt. =)

I Hate It When People Misuse "literally"!

Yea i didn't point out anyone and it wasn't directed at anyone or even at this board. This is a very common mistake that i seriously thought people didn't know about. I'm sure the other references can be found on this forum too but apparently as long as it's not a mass mistake it's ok. I've never been a grammar nazi on here but hello that's what this post is... If I offended anyone that was NEVER my intention. I figured they just saw it wrong on here so much they truly didn't know it was wrong. Which is why I would never call someone out in a regular post on grammar. But if this was offensive I feel the whole topic should have been removed because somewhere on here all of these mistakes have been made.

    Has Anyone Cheated?

Yea at my three week appt I told my Doc I was "cheating." I'm supposed to be on purees until this weekend... i told him i was chewing my juicy chicken and soft cooked veggies really well and then taking two sips of water with every bit.... i told him that was basically what my food processor did. He just laughed at me.
