"Are people really lacking that much basic common sense..." Sorry, but that was in your original post...

    quest bars

Dunno, but I just went online and ordered a sampler of 11 flavors... Hopefully I will like some of them.

GOOD fast food choices ?! :)

I get a burrito bowl at Chipotle with grilled chicken, salsa and cheese. I skip the beans and rice bc I am supposed to limit carbs... I tried onions and peppers (which I used to love) but my sleeve did not like it... I can get 3-4 meals out of one burrito bowl...

    Pardon my bluntness...

"I completely sympathize with folks who start threads looking for help because they're craving something. That's not what this is about. What I'm having difficulty understanding is this; why do people seek approval from what are basically complete strangers to violate their doctor's directives, when they know it's not in their best interest? It just doesn't make sense to me." Most of us are here because we have had - or are having vertical sleeves... but if you read the posts, you will know that doctors directives about these sleeves are as varied as the sands in the ocean. Some will say they have strict two week pre op all liquid diets... some are allowed Protein based foods during the liquid phase...some don't have ANY kind of pre op diet! Some are on liquids after surgery...some are on "mushies" (I wasn't)...some are allowed to eat any soft food as early as two weeks after surgery... some - like me - are not allowed ANY carbs - mashed potatoes, rice, Beans - even after 11 weeks after surgery... Yet, most of the people *are* losing weight... I think we (at least *I*) come here to compare ideas - to see what plan others are following...and whether or not it works... Yes, it's hard to know that I can't have ANY carbs... but then, when I fell and had a Wendy's Chili - I knew it wasn't the end of the world because I also knew that so many other folks had successfully - with their doctors blessing - had a few black beans and it didn't "kill" them or disrupt their weight loss... Doctors are different and have different plans...Some have shared their caloric intake, which I found helpful, because my doctor will not give me caloric guidelines (and the OCD in me NEEDS guidelines)...all he will say is have x amount of protein and no more than y amount of carbs - ... so it's not that we (I) and taking the advice of total strangers over my doctor, but it is nice to have someone with whom I can ask questions and get advice and take an average... my doc does NOT answer questions... I have posted earlier that he is very much like Dr. Gregory House - a brilliant surgeon, but a bit of a d**k. Some have docs who are overseas and not accessible... So, it is nice that - yes - total strangers - will share what worked for THEM to give help into making all the pieces fit. If I meet someone who had surgery on the same date as me, and they have lost 20lbs more than I have, I appreciate reading what worked for them...it may not work for me, but it *might*...
  6. Love the video! Thank you for sharing it!

    Pardon my bluntness...

Maybe its because you have only been here a couple of weeks, but your post ( in my opinion) is insensitive and judgemental... People who need this surgery are not typically good at staying on diets, or are yo yo dieters who sometimes fail when it comes to always doing the right thing. I am a professional dieter, but after my surgeon had me on liquid protein skakes for FIVE weeks, even commercials for McDonalds looked like gourmet cuisine... I think some come here to vent, some come to be talked out of a temptation because this? ...Is a SUPPORT group... To say that people are "lacking in common sense" because they may need help to stay on track is just ... mean. I hope if you have a rough day and are tempted, that you get the support you need and are not belittled.

    ~4 months post-op with pictures :)

You look great! Do you mind my asking - how many calories do you average a day? I am two months out in a stall... I walk daily on the treadmill and average 650 calories per day... Do you limit carbs and max protein or eat anything in smaller portions? I need to do whatever you are doing! Thanks!

    Help..has anyone else

Eggs are probably the only thing I can consistently not get sick with!

    11 Weeks...Calories?

My doc only gives protein goals and carb maxes... No calorie help at all... I could use some guidance because I feel stalled and dont know if I am eating enough... I am almost 10 weeks out and average 650 calories per day...
  11. ... And a little regret. I was sleeved on 10/22... I am down 38lbs... I do 30-45 min on the treadmill daily... I saw my doctor on Tuesday and he chastised me for losing too slowly... He had me on fish and eggs until Tuesday, but I jumped ahead to chicken because I was sick of fish and eggs... I have been eating high Protein, very little carbs averaging about 625 calories per day... My weight loss *has* slowed although my clothes fit better.. Now I am worried that I won't continue to lose and all this pain, frustration and throwing up will have been for an " only" loss of 40ish lbs... If this is it for weight loss, then I regret the surgery... It would be worth losing up to goal - 100lbs but not for 38-40lbs (depending on the scale). I could just be down because I tried to eat my dinner very slowly and carefully and still threw up. I miss food.

    Surgery done 12/12/12

After weeks and weeks of sweet protein shakes, Isopure zero carb Alpine punch is the only protein I can stomach... It looks and tastes a bit like gatorade to me - of which I am not a fan, but its tolerable over ice with a lime wedge.

8 weeks out and feeling doubt...

You guys are so helpful...thank you... My doc has the bedside manner of Dr. Gregory House... I dont like him at all, but he is the guy my insurance covers... I weigh every Monday and saw a loss today and feel better... This is HARD... Anyone who thinks this is an easy solution has no idea of how hard the behavior modification is... I throw up if I eat one bite too much...and right now, dont always recognize the full cue.
  15. So, today is three weeks post op... I was told to call today for my new, advanced diet... I called and got voicemail. Augghhh! So, being on my fifth week of liquid protein, and SICK of the shakes, I took it upon myself to make a one egg omelette with ground turkey sausage. I ate a smidge over half... And began feeling bad... Chest pain, stomach pain, felt hot all over... And then I threw up. I hope this does not mean my body is not ready for soft food! Perhaps I ate either too much or too fast? God, am I sick of protein shakes!

    body oder

Are you pre or post op? Is the odor something new or just something you need help with?
  17. I was sleeved on 10/22... I still don't have a good understanding of FULL...but know exactly the feeling of OVER full... With me, it's a feeling as though something is stuck in my chest, not my throat... and the difference between full and this horrible feeling can be as little as one more bite. My NUT jokingly says, "Eat until you are full, but stop two bites before..." That is exactly what I have to do... I am getting better at eyeballing the amount I should eat... and I stop before I feel "full" because I don't exactly have this feeling. But I know if I eat ONE BITE past this ... non feeling, then I was have the uncomfortable pain feeling in the chest that is only alleviated by throwing up. I also get this feeling if I eat too fast or don't chew well enough. Such is the life of a sleever.

What has changed to speed up my weight loss?

how long ago were you sleeved?
  19. So... I was sleeved on 10/22... and sometimes feel discouraged because I am "only" down 36.5lbs... BUT. Today? I went into a back closet at home and am wearing an outfit that I have not worn in ... oh, heck, I have no idea - a LONG time. And? When I saw my primary care physician two weeks ago, my blood pressure was low enough that she took me off of my blood pressure meds... and told me to check in in two weeks to see how I was doing. I stopped in the office today and my BP was 120/79. NO MORE HBP! So, although the weight is not "dropping" off as fast as I had imagined, I am off of two medications, wearing smaller clothes, and have been working out DAILY on the treadmill. Life is good.
  20. I had 2 weeks pre op of liquid Protein, broth, and popsicles... I am now one week post op and STILL on only protein, Jello, broth, and popsicles... I was told I can start egg drop Soup on Monday, but NO other foods until 11/12... I am so sick of the taste of the Protein shakes that I am starting to gag... Any suggestions? Sign me, Sick of Protein p.s. I am using unjury plain in chicken broth, Premier vanilla, Choc, and vanilla w strawberry syrup and sick of them ALL!!

Some of the bars are very carby... If you have carb restrictions (i am only allowec 30 gr of carbs daily) you can use up your daily carb allowance on bars...
  24. Your posting of this could not be timelier (is that a word?) anyway, on my to-do list today was to go and buy some of the isopure zero carb to try... I am six weeks out and having a hard time getting my Protein in and I am ABSOLUTELY SICK of my Protein shakes...they are so sweet and after 5 weeks straight (2 weeks pre op and 3 weeks post op) just the smell of them makes me gag. I am going to try a couple of flavors and see if I can tolerate them. Thanks!
