  1. I was consistetnly losing weight prior to surgery and now I am at a stall. Im sure my body is just trying to figure out what is going on.
  2. Are you taking your vitamins? Our bodies are adjusting to an extremely low amount of calories and the B12 will help with energy. Have you had your blood tests done again? Your Potassium and Iron may be low. My BP was all over the place while in the hospital. I was concerned because one reading was actually high but the doc said it was because of the pain.

I Need The Straight Skinny -Help

It also depends how much you need to lose. The closer you get to goal or the lower your BMI, the slower the losss. However, give yourself a full year to meet goal. Your body is adjusting to a new life.
  4. Hello, So, lets get personal. I am on day 10 of my pre-op liquid diet. Day 3 I had the runs, day 6 I had loose stools, and today I have black poop. I am scheduled to get sleeved in 2 days. I already has esophogatis and gastritis which is said to get worse with the sleeve due to GERD. These two conditions are also linked with black poop. Could this be caused by all the protein I have been getting these past 2 weeks or due to internal bleeding?
  5. I plan to call tomorrow. I have stuck 100% to the pre-op diet and have not had any pepto. I was wondering if anyone else had digestive problems that could be related to the high protein diet. I think I had digestive problems when I did the Atkin's diet. Hopefully I will know something tomorrow.
  6. What concerns me is that all the research says black stool indicates bleeding in the upper GI tract (stomach, esophogus). I have been taking protonix so I don't know why my gastritis and esophogitis would have gotten worse. The only think different is that I am living off of protein shakes and water. Is it safe to go ahead with the surgery?

    Getting Nervous Yet?

I get sleeved on Wednesday and I am worried about possible complications.

    Surgery In 3 Weeks!

Hi! I get sleeved on Wednesday and I am having fears about complications. I have lost 45 pounds pre-op so my fears of being fat are now replaced by fears of long term complications. I am 5'2 and weight 185. I know that if I start to gain weight again I will immediately want the surgery so I am going ahead with it. Keep me in your prayers!
  9. Anyone post-op have problems with Vit B deficiency due to the intrinsic factor problems from the stomach being cut? VIt B deficiences can be harmful and may contribute to depression and fatigue (something I already am dealing with pre-op). Thanks for your time

    Vitamin B Deficiency

Cheri, Are you on B12 injections indefinately or will you go back to sublingual? Does insurance cover the injections?
  11. I have found that often break ups sometimes are "blessings in disguise". You have started a new chapter in your life. Embrace it. Sorry to hear of your heart break. Do things that you enjoy to take care of yourself (i.e. hot bath vs candy). And dont go at this alone. It is completely normal to have a slip but you have a support system to help you get back on track. Thank you for reaching out. It helps all of us who have been there and will be there again.
  12. I originally wanted to lose 90 pounds but due to my 50 pound pre-op weight loss, I would like to lose 45. I am currently at a BMI of 33. A plastic surgeon said the closer you are to a BMI of 30 and under you will not have a problem with excess skin. I think I will have bat wings but will be able to hide my tummy. So far the weight loss has been steady but as I get closer to goal I sure I will slow down. My NUT said there is no reason why I cannot reach my goal between 6-12 months. Hope that helps

    Bmi?

I have surgery on Wednesday and my BMI is 33. I started out with a BMI of 42 but lost 50 pounds in the last 4 months. My doc said that since insurance has already approved my surgery that it was ok going under a BMI of 35 (you can have a BMI of 35 if you have co-morbidities).
  14. I have my surgery scheduled in a few days and I happened across this website that has scared me. All of my "what if" questions are documented in their research. Im very nervous of long term implications of wls now. Help!

    Tired, Very Tired

I worry about the same thing. I go back to work at 7 weeks out and I have a very fast paced job. Prior to pre-op diet I drank coffee or upped my B-12 that helped a lot. I think the body just runs out of fuel on such a low calorie intake.

    Slimfast Pre Op?

Try to find a shake that has only 5g of sugar, 5g of fat and is 200 calories or less. You also can have sugar free jello, applesauce, and broth. Fill up on water. You will do fine.

    6 Months Anniversary Today!

What was your weight on your surgery date? If you started out with a low BMI you can expect to lose much slower but still reach your goal within year (says my NUT). I know how you feel because I get too obsessed with what the scale says.

    June 21St! 250 Pounds?

The less you have to lose, the longer it takes. My surgeon said to expect to lose 70% of your excess weight. I have surgery next week and I am currently 185 (I have lost 45 pounds in the last 3 months). He said I can get down about 50 pounds. I would be thrilled to get down to 135! Good luck!
  20. Im a little nervous that I may have an allergy to the amount of dairy protein I have been consuming. I have a rash on my cheek and a bout of the runs on day 3. Has anyone else experienced this? I dont know how I will get through the next couple months is this continues.
  21. I mix the protein powder with water. I dont know of any protein powder that does not contain milk??

    Any June Sleevers?

    June 13th
  25. I am 200 lbs and my goal weight is 135 (high range for my height). My surgeon says that I will only get down to 150 (which is still considered overweight). I have already lost 30 pounds getting ready for surgery. Is it wrong for me to think that I can lose more than 50 pounds after being sleeved?
