Well, I have to say that I laughed really hard when I read your post! I think my favorite was about the stomach exploding. As for me, I'm still pre-sleeve and am steadily working towards a surgery date (hopefully in the next two months). As for my stats I'm 29, 5'5", 274 and I also have a problem with Portion Control and stress eating. I also adore Peanut Butter and chocolate. As for health, underneath the chub I'm actually in good shape although my doc says that I'll be a great candidate for diabetes in a few years if I don't drop the weight. I run 2 miles several times a week, lift weights, do yoga, and go hiking on a regular basis. For me, getting the sleeve will impose restrictions that will force me to have a better lifestyle. Bye bye, emotional and absent minded eating, hello weight loss! I'm serious enough about it that I'm willing to say sayonara to peanut butter/chocolate and am delving into exactly why I stress eat. A most uncomfortable self reflection, I can assure you!
As for what brought me to this decision (besides my sincere desire NOT to become diabetic) was that even though I'm active, there are still so many things that I can't do because I'm fat. Also, there is nothing as humiliating as having to get off a ride because they can't close the safety bar. I decided that I was not going to live a life where my weight kept me from having the fun and adventure that I deserve. That I do not want to be on my death bed and thinking, "If only..." instead of "Damn, sexy lady, you rocked it hard and lived a crazy life! Those memoirs are gonna sell bigtime!"

I like my eyes and smile - a lot of people comment that I have a beautiful face. My friends were very concerned that I may go all hard angles after the WLS, but till now that hasn't happened. So I'm kinda hoping that I retain what my friends call a 'charming' face (whatever that means LOL)
And this has nothing to do with weight: Last week I took a cab back from work and once I reached home and settled the money, the cab driver said I had a great voice and that it is really rare to hear such a sweet voice! Ofcourse, I blushed and stammered a thanks but I was grinning the whole week (still do LOL). That was such an unexpected compliment. I have had many friends say my voice is good, but never has a stranger complimented me on it.

Today marks thirty days since my surgery, four weeks and two days. My husband and I went out to eat for the first time in over a month, and it was a success! I was a little worried about a negative reaction, but was feeling OK since I haven't had any problems at home this past week introducing "early solid foods." We went out for sushi and I ordered a miso Soup which I've been making at home, familiar territory. Then I was about to very slowly, but wonderfully eat three 1oz pieces of sashimi (sake and maguro) dipped in low-sodium soy sauce. HEAVEN! I took very small bites, chewed so thoroughly, and patiently waited between bites to check in with my belly for the full signal. The taste was amazing, so nice to have something my taste buds remember from before surgery. I felt like I could have gone for a fourth piece, but didn't want to push it. It was hard to not dive into the roll my husband got, but I kept staring at the rice like it was a sworn enemy. I did allow myself a small bite of the unagi he ordered for "desert"
It was so nice to feel normal again. And I have to say, I loved my sleeve for doing it's job tonight...

Well, speaking from a guys point of view, my sex life has increased dramatically. Not to be too graphic here, but there are things we couldn't do before that we are able to do now, kind of like the honeymoon all over again. My wife was very supportive of my surgery, and now we are both working out together so even that has improved our relationship. We encourage each other more now as we support each other in our weight loss goals. It is actually very exciting. I can see how it can be a little nerving though. I am 6 foot tall and actually carry my current 263 pounds fairly well. (Ugh...I hate to say this next part for fear of everyone thinking I'm "all that", because I know I'm not and never will be...lol) I have had a few ladies in the office start with the flirting that I hadn't seen before. While flattering, I am focused on my beautiful wife. She really has been with me through "thick and thin", pun intended. She deserves the very best, and not that I am the very best husband, I just try to be.
Anyways, that is how the sleeve has effected my life with my wife. I wouldn't change it for the world. I have seen a positive change in all phases of my life and I thank God for that!

I went salsa dancing saturday night and two great things happend to me:
    1. I didn't stand in a corner, self concious about my body.. and I guess guys responded to that self confidence cause I got asked to dance all night long and I said yes to almost every dance requests (after warning them i didn't know the dance steps, lol)
    2. I had the energy to dance for over 3 hours without my legs cramping up and feeling tired, when the club was closing down, I still wanted to keep on dancing

    Hello everyone,
I know this story may seem so silly to some, but it was quite a moment for me.
Last night my husband and I went out for my very first "outing" treat; frozen yogurt. When we arrived I grabbed a small bowel, this alone is major because I have NEVER grabbed a small anything before, even in my mind it felt wrong, I filled it about 3/4 of the way and my messed up mind was thinking, "this does not look like enough", I ate about 5 small spoonfuls AND.......... I was so full!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really could not believe it! Never in my life have I ever been able to not finish a meal, a dessesrt, a drink, or anything! I was actually full and it was such a major moment for me. I actually broke down and cried about it. I didn't cry because I couldn't eat it, I cried because of so many times I wished that the time would come where I could actually push food away without eating it all, and I did it 40 years later. It was such a moment for me, thank you for letting mr share it with you.

Wow. Just...wow. The idiocy of that woman astounds me. I just adore *sarcasm* the "get off your ass and close your mouth and the weight will drop off, as you frolic through a meadow filled with scampering puppies and tweeting birdies" approach that she was rocking during her meeting with you. Where was the professionalism? Yes, she had some points about how the surgery can't fix any head/food issues, and that this surgery is permanent. Yet there are ways that those concerns and questions could be asked without making you feel so ackward and/or uncertain/depressed/scared about your surgery. Also, what doctor starts off a meeting with a statement that is guaranteed to stress someone out? Furthermore, it pretty much scews any answer to her questions as you're more apt to give her the answers you think she wants to hear, versus what you are actually thinking/feeling. What an idiot. Two thumbs up for keeping your cool during the appointment! At least now it's over and you can move on to the next step in your journey!

I have a good story. I had just moved to a new city and didn't have a PCP yet, so I went to a Patient First. I get bronchitis every winter like clockwork and I know the signs. So off I toddle to the doctor and the jerkoff told me that they wanted to run a bunch of tests on me because (and get this) my coughing and pain when I breathed could be a sign of a heart attack because I'm overweight. So I refused an EKG because, well, I had bronchitis. So the jerkoff was standing right outside of my curtain talking to the other doctors about me and how I was refusing care and gererally mocking me. So I whipped the curtain open, told him the next time he wanted to mock a patient that maybe he shouldn't be on the other side of a curtain, and asked him if he cheated his way through med school as I had serious doubts about his competency and IQ. As I walked away I pulled out my phone and dialed the Patient First hub number and spoke to a customer service supervisor and filed a formal complaint. I don't know if it did any good, but the look on his face when I glanced back was priceless. Trust me, if I have to I can do the stereotypical "big girl with attitude". Oh, and I went to a different doctor that same day and it turned out I had (surprise!) bronchitis.
I think a lot of doctors look at overweight people as lazy and that all our ailments are because of our weight. Granted, many of them are, but somtimes it pays to dig a little deeper into a problem.

I'm sorry about your mom. I have a hard time battling head hunger too, and it can help to get up and go take a walk, or a nice drive, or do anything that is away from hearth and home where the pantry is. It helps distract my brain from what it thinks it wants. Maybe you can call some friends to schedule a game/movie/spa night? Go on a mad cleaning frenzy? Put on some music and dance? Knit? Just remember that you are not alone in this!

I'm sorry that you lost a "friend" but you're right in saying that you dont need that right now. Keep rocking your sleeve and know that you did what was right for you and to h*ll to all the naysayers that try to keep you down. It takes incredible courage to contemplate this, and incredible fortitude to actually do and succeed at this.

Lyra reacted to royboy in Just Realized It's Been Two Months Sice My Sleeve!
Was reading some of the posts here and realized that it has been two months and 5 days since my sleeve. I almost forgot about the time that has passed. I'm down 68 pounds and feel great! I read alot of the posts about others whom are starting their jouney and feel the pain the anguish that so many go thru. The post surgery shock I call it. Seems that after my sleeve surgery, everything changed. No more huge meals, rotten snack eating and I felt like I was missing something. I kept telling myself it was a lifestyle change and as of this week, it has been. Hell, I forgot how long ago I was sleeved. I chose to eat healthy foods and excersie daily, not on a treadmill or elliptical or bowflex, as I have them, they work great for hanging wet towels on from the hottub, but now I get up and move with my life. I feelt that if I started on the machines, I would feel like I used too and just fall of the wagon as I hate to use them. Literally hate it. So now I just move. Be it working around the house, on my truck, others equipment, anything that keeps me moving inside my realm of thing I like to do. Build things, fix things, hunt, fish, etc. It's been a rough first month or so and smooth sailing since for the most part. I would do this again in a heart beat! Blood sugars are normal, high blood pressure gone and really feel like I was lucky to cheat out death at a young age.
I still have work to do on myself, but it's gotten so much easier that I can't beleive it's me anymore. When I was overweight and feeling terrible, I used to plan my moves in my head. Ok I'll walk here, but no further, need to rest some, ok lets do this again. i would purposely not do things that required alot of walking. Now I don't even think about it and just do it. Like it's effortless for me. Such a wonderful feeling to have again. I can't remember when I lost that years ago. I just know now that it's back and I want to keep it for the rest of my life.

Lyra reacted to Flagstaffian in Psych Evaluation...a Little Help Please!
Hi guys, just a quick update.
I had my psych eval last week and it went great. The psychologist for KP Richmond is a very nice lady in her late 60's. She looked at my 8 page questionnaire and basically asked me the same questions that I had already answered, maybe to see if my answers were consistent?
We talked about triggers, family background, and most importantly, she wanted to gauge how realistic my expectations are in regards to what the sleeve can and cannot do. She also recommended some support groups. She told me that they don't usually deny people based on the psych eval, and she also slipped in a few horror stories of "VSG's gone wrong"...like the family that went to Mexico to get their 11 yr old sleeved...ouch, it did NOT go well for that poor child. All in all, it was about 90 minutes, cost $15 on my KP plan, and left me feeling better about my decision to have the surgery. Pretty painless!

Yeah, for me it was always "smile smile smile" when shopping with my friends and then later I always wanted to cry because I wanted to buy cute, trendy clothes too. I never really told my best friend that I felt that way until I told her that I was going to get this surgery. Luckly all my friends have been supportive and they all helped me come up with an amazing "Lyra gets a 'cookie' " rewards list. Except the 'cookie' are things like horseback riding, skiing, zip lining, ballroom dance lessons, kyaking etc that we're all going to do together!

1 day shy from my 1 month sleevaversary actually but that's ok :smile1:. Got weighed yesterday at my doctor's visit and so far I'm down 37 pounds since surgery. Not too bad. I can already feel a huge difference. My back doesn't hurt as much as it used to and I can now walk a much longer distance without any knee or joint pain. Clothes are also very loose and I can fit into an old jacket I missed dearly!. Doctor gave the ok to start weight lifting so my next step is to come up with and establish a solid routine. I hope everything keeps going smoothly. Just wanted to share :smile1:
