  1. I had a DVT in 2009 and have had to give myself Lovenox injections many times over the last 3 years. I was freaked out at first, but it's really not that bad. You will feel a pinch but it doesn't last long. The nurses will administer it while you're in the hospital so you will get an idea of what it feels like there. For my sleeve surgery I had an IVC filter placed AND came home on Lovenox until my INR levels became therapeutic again for me. I have been on Coumadin since my DVT and have to stay within a certain range. Lovenox is not that bad. You'll do fine! Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

    Overeating?

I was moved to soft foods at 3 weeks and ground beef was allowed for me. My NUTs encouraged flaky fish, soft cheese, ground beef, refried Beans for Protein in that order at that stage. They recommended trying chicken last. My first meal was Wendy's chilli. For me, I had very little trouble with any foods. I would wait a couple of weeks and try the ground beef again then. Go back to fish for a few days. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I've Never Even Been On A Cruise....

Hello and welcome! I just went on a cruise at the beginning of May. I've been on cruises before being sleeved and LOVE them. Leading up to this one, I kept thinking abt how different it would be now that I can't indulge like I used to. One thing I learned is that we DEFINITELY can over eat if we don't stick to our newly formed lifestyles. I broke every sleeve rule possible. Ate too many slider foods, drank with every meal to make room for more food, grazed all day. Even with doing this, I still only ate a fraction of what my fellow cruisers were eating. What did I learn? That I really appreciate my sleeve for allowing me to sample and enjoy without going off the deep end. I also know first hand that it is truly a tool; the willpower and self control is the driving force behind it. Without creating and following healthy habits, we can't do this! I returned on May 10 and learned that I'd gained 4 lbs on the cruise (GASP)! But I cranked my focus up, went back to the life I know and lost that plus an additional 12 lbs in less than 3 weeks! I LOVE my sleeve! Let me know if I can assist you on your journey!

  8. LMAO!!! Rodswife, girl you have had me ROLLING tonight!! Protein shot! WUUUUU!!!
  9. LOL!! Hilarious! Then they wonder why we're turned off. I think it was about 4 weeks for me, but I had a period after surgery that lasted two weeks plus a ruptured ovarian cyst. Sex was the LAST thing on my mind. My husband threw in a lot of hints but waited it out patiently. ????

    July 4Th Challenge

I've never participated in a challenge because I was worried about putting too much pressure on myself while newly sleeved. But I'm down this time - count me in! Surgery Weight - 403 Current Weight - 332 July 4th Goal - 318 (14 lbs - YIKES!) Losing 14 will put me at 85 lost before my 6 month surgiversary. Good luck to all!! WE GOT THIS!!!

    Sleeved And 21

I had surgery in January and still party with no problems. I've done mixed drinks, shots, wine - no issues at all. I normally indulge in alcohol on the weekends, so 3-4 times a month. And I went on a cruise at the beginning of the month and drank like a fish! LOL! You'll just have to determine what your tolerances are once you're cleared for alcohol.
  12. Definitely my thighs. They have gotten a little smaller but not in the way other parts of my body have.

Did Surgery Make Your Period Come Earlier And Stronger?

I normally cramp anyway, so my doc had previously prescribed a mild pain med called Tramadol. I stopped taking Ibuprofen years ago, and definitely can't take that now. The Tramadol has the same effect as Tylenol to me - not much helps, but I make due. I was still home recovering from surgery when I experienced the really painful period, so I took the pain med my surgeon prescribed for the VSG to cope with those during that time.

Did Surgery Make Your Period Come Earlier And Stronger?

Yes. I actually had my regular period the week before surgery and then came back on a few days after. For me, that period was long, heavy and extremely painful. My next cycle was normal but it has been all over the place since then. My GYN said it's due to the surgery and rapid weight loss. I hope it stabilizes soon. Do a search for "It's Your Period Dummy.". Lots of us posted about it under that thread.

When Does The Hair Loss Stop?

D1NOnly, hair loss usually doesn't begin that early. Most people begin losing it around 2 months post op, if at all.
  20. I am just shy of 4 weeks out. I've only been on soft foods for 4 days, but am having some difficulty. So far, everything I've tried goes down with no problem. But I literally ONLY can eat 4 or 5 SMALL bites before I begin hiccuping and feeling like food may come back up in my throat. The bites are very small and I chew well over a minute before swallowing. Was this normal in the beginning for everyone? Does it get better further out? Do I have an extra small sleeve? I was told on my 3 week post op that a 36 French bougie was used for me. It's not that I have a desire to overeat or anything. But I am concerned that I will not be able to get in the amount of calories I am expected to eat. Within this 3 month stage, I was told that I should be working towards 900 calories per day! WHAT?! HOW?! I doubt I've gotten in 300 calories per day since I started eating. I've read that some of you eat over 1200 per day. I just can't imagine that. Please give me some insight for the near future. Will this get better?

    Finally Found Good Flavored Protein

I am 3 1/2 months out and I haven't found a Protein Bar with the amount of protein, low fat grams, and low carb count as the Premier shakes. I've eaten some bars which are very tasty, but the Premier shakes have 30 grams which help me reach my daily protein goal. I rarely hit my 70-80 grams without a shake.
  23. 59 pounds gone in 3 1/2 months....SO close to 60! I treated myself to some new clothes this weekend! :-)
