    African American Sleevers

I haven't done any weight lifting yet. I was real good at going to the gym 3-4 days a week but I was just doing treadmill for an hour for the most part. I fell off recently though. I have to get back on my game REAL soon. I look forward to hearing about your progress! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    African American Sleevers

My taste buds changed right after for the first 6-8 weeks, but everything went back to normal there. I still have an aching sweet tooth but I keep it in moderation. Likely, the protein shakes you try and like now will taste completely different. Premier was my friend. And I never tried any crazy things like grinding pork chops. That's just silly. I actually didn't cheat on any of the stages. I did try alcohol earlier than 3 months. Originally, it was to be one night. But I had a DVT (clot in my leg) back in 2009 and they were being cautious. I was perfectly fine with the extra night. You'll probably go home the next day. Remember to get up and walk while there. The pre op group had great info. Write down all of your questions for that nurse. I was sore on my right side for awhile. It was like my muscles in my abdomen had been bruised or strained. I couldn't get comfortable at night and needed help getting in and out of bed. Hopefully, you won't experience that. I didn't notice skin issues then, but I have loose skin now after 85 lost. I know that it will get worse with more loss. But I will pursue plastics if it bothers me too much. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Congrats!! My surgery was January 10. My surgeon was Dr. Portenier. Who do you have? When is your pre op group? My experience was great! I had no issues with him or the hospital. My process wasn't as fast as I had hoped. I attended the seminar in August, submitted my application in September, my first appt was in October, preop testing and psych visit in Oct and Nov, got the schedule call in early Dec and January 10 was the earliest date. Girl, I was ready for surgery! LOL! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  5. I also was too afraid to cheat. I was on straight liquids for 3 weeks post op - no yogurt, eggs, tuna, cottage cheese, NOTHING. I ate out with family several times during those 3 weeks and never once cheated. I was too afraid of damaging myself. Plus, I couldn't even meet my Water goal yet. I didn't want to force anything. It's not worth the risk IMO. You'll be able to eat soon. :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST

Day 1 Post Op..? About Breathing

It's a spirometer. Definitely suck and not blow. It was hard for me those first few days, but it's necessary to avoid possible pneumonia. Congrats on being sleeved! I wish a speedy recovery to you. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Labor Day Challenge 2012

I'm in! I didn't make my July 4th Challenge, but hopefully will make this one. SW: 323 GW: 303 (20 lbs) Also: - Get back to drinking 100+ oz of water daily. Lately, I've been only getting in 80 or so. - Get back to exercising at least 3 days per week. I haven't been to the gym in weeks Seeing Twoterville would be nice, but I don't want to be too ambitious. My annual family reunion is Labor Day weekend. One of my original goals was to have 100 lbs lost by then. Making this challenge will put me there. Good luck, everyone! WE GOT THIS!! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    July 4Th Challenge

Sorry! I haven't been on the forum this week. So I started this challenge at 332 and my goal was 318. I got to 319 by June 21 which I was ecstatic about! Then my TOM came. Also, I work with a residential college-prep summer camp for teenagers during the summer. I've been eating terribly the last couple of weeks. Grazing, poor food choices, not enough water. This week I weighed in at 323 so I didn't make my 4th goal. UGH! This is my first gain since surgery and I'm trying not to freak out. I'm going to try to make better choices this week. Congrats to everyone for a great challenge! On to the Labor Day goal.... Sent from my iPhone using VST

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

*Raising hand* Another "weigh every morning after going to the bathroom-er" here. I did this before surgery too. I also weigh every night before bed. The first couple of months post op, I truly obsessed about it. Every stall or 1-2 pounds increase had me pulling my hair out. Now, I'm good with it and don't let small fluctuations bother me. I will probably always be a daily weigher. Sent from my iPhone using VST

African American Sleevers & Hair Loss

I was told it would start between months 2 and 6 if it were to happen. I'd noticed lots of hair growth prior to my loss beginning. It didn't start until the 4th month for me. I have a friend with Sister Locs who had RNY almost 3 years ago. She experienced hair loss during the first year. I couldn't tell she was losing hair but she could in different places. Her hair looked full enough to me during that time. Hopefully, you won't experience much loss if any. :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST

African American Sleevers & Hair Loss

Way too soon. Did your NUT give you a plan to follow? On mine, I wasn't allowed rice, Pasta or bread until after 3 months. Even now at over 5 months, I rarely eat pasta, rice, or bread because I simply don't have room for it after getting my Protein in. Hold off on your sushi. It'll be there in a few weeks. :-) Sent from my iPhone using VST
