Crackers, chips, popcorn, Cookies... They all start to digest in the mouth and break down so quickly and easily they slide right through for me.
Strangely yogert does not. It fills my stomach and makes me full. Probably because of the Protein, I imagine.

I think of sliders as being foods that I heard about once in a Daily Show interview with a food scientist. He used the term "diminishing caloric density" to describe the way cheetos and other snack foods dissolve or melt in your mouth. Think of cheese puffs or cotton candy. It starts off big and fluffy, but it melts down when mixed with saliva and doesn't take up much space. Because it becomes so compact, it doesn't take up much room in your stomach and doesn't make you feel full.
Other sliders would be liquidy foods. Don't drink your calories!

Anything that is liquid or like a yogurt consistency is a slider. Avoid it unless you are using it as a meal replacement/protein source.

Oh got it. I actually don't have any issues with food sliding through. I follow my surgeons guidelines and eat Protein first. Nothing I've eaten has given me any problems.

popcorn and corn puffs, cheese puffs. Anything like cotton candy. Basically food that breaks down very easily has none or lil nutritional value and will not fill you up!

Personally, I don't even bother with the empty calories of alcohol... I'll have an unsweet tea...if they don't have that, an iced coffee... I keep sugar free flavoring in my purse, so I'm ready... don't need the alcohol to have a good time... but that's me... never was much of a drinker anyway...

Now that I have lost 81% of my weight. I thought I would give a drink a try. I ordered a skinny girl drink of the menu. It was a citrus drink (sugar free) but with a shot of vodka. I had a few sips. I now realize what others on the board were talking about when they say low tolerance level...Oh my it caught me off guard. For me It's a once in a while treat. I really don't like the way it makes me feel.

Or ounces.......at 14 months out I am striking a noble effort to lose a pound a week.
At nine days out, you haven't even hit the third week stall. Don't get discouraged. It takes time for your body to catch up on the healing part of this process.
Bariatric surgery is a test of your patience and character.

GEAUX SAINTS got a reaction from KS123 in Sleeve or Lap band? Scared of choosing wrong option!
I had the lap-band put in in 2002. I did great with it until it started failing me. After 4 surgeries due to slippage, bad port, etc, it had to come out! If I had to all over again, I would choose the sleeve, hands down. Although I'm only a month out with the sleeve, and have been in the "dreaded 3 week stall" for two of those 4 weeks, it would be my first and only choice.

@@VonJuke - My doc told me that the stomach itself doesn't have pain receptors. So, no, the stomach doesn't hurt. The tissue around it & the incisions, probably, but not the stomach muscle. Believe me when I say it's not bad. The worst part is the gas, believe it or not!!! You will be sore, but it won't necessarily hurt! Good luck to you!

I was sleeved on the 3rd and I'm down 17 lbs. I feel great, but Protein shakes/powders are not my friend! UGH!!! I hate even thinking about them! I drink them, but not without poor Sleevie Plunder objecting viscously!!!
Taste buds have changed a bit! I loved coffee before. Now it's all I can do to get a cup in the morning! I know a lot of people have this problem...tastes changing!!! Weird!!!
    Good luck to everyone!!

@@BeagleLover I agree! I wish I hadn't gone back to the same surgeon. I'll always wonder if I would have had different results with someone else.
@@Band07 there's not much for me to update, things are pretty much the same. I have very little restriction, VERY little. And to be honest, that's depressing (especially because I was self-pay, so I feel really guilty and "stupid" for spending all that money instead of just doing it myself). But, as @@CowgirlJane said, if I eat dense Protein first my restriction is much better. So all is not lost! It's just not as easy for me as it is for some, I have to use a lot of willpower and make very careful choices. There's no signal for me to stop eating after a few bites, I can eat almost as much as I could eat pre-surgury. And my weight loss is slow. But I stick with dense Protein first, I don't drink my calories (actually I've eliminated all added sugars--too addictive for me), I eat lots of fresh veggies, drink lots of Water, and exercise. So the weight IS coming off!
Also, as tough as it is not having restriction, it's also a relief sometimes. It's nice to be able to eat raw veggies, or a steak, without getting "stuck." It's nice to be able to have dinner out with friends without any worry of getting "the slimes" or only being able to eat a bite or two and having to explain myself to everyone. It's nice not feeling starving AND full at the same time--which I often felt with the band! That's the good part of the situation. I basically feel normal, like I didn't have surgery at all. And that does have some advantages, too.

Yep.... Bra's were horrible to find! And then I had to buy EXTENSIONS!! Uggggggggg!!

The first shopping trip I went on to a "regular" store was Kohl's and with a good friend I don't see very often, I was trying on a blouse and asking her opinion, and she was kinda nervous at first but she finnally told me I need to "lift" the girls.... So she ran and found me a bra and I couldn't believe it fit... AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE !

The "girls" are definitly leaving me.... but I'm OK with that!!!!:tongue_smilie:

I am just shy of 60 days post op. and down 30 #!!! Last week was my first experience of eating out. We did 2 days-
first day was a cheese quesadilla/beans (PROTIEN)....I couldn't eat no more that 1/4 of it.
Second time we went to Olive Garden for the soup/salad...we got appetizers the mushrooms/cheese bites (Mistake #1)
by the time the Soup arrived, I could not eat it. NO I did not eat any bread....I ate 1 serving of salad with my 2 mushrooms/1 cheese bite.
YES ....TAKE HOME BOXES ARE A MUST!!!
Still learning...when ordering I always look for what would have the most Protein....

I will admit I eat out way too much but when I do it is usually grilled chicken, steak or a burger no bun by the time I eat my Protein I'm stuffed. And also I go to places were I can look up the nutrition information. I love places that have nutrition calculators that way you can add and take away.

I'm only a month out, so my experience is limited, but I've been out with friends a half dozen times so far. I have either just gotten a beverage and skipped eating (tea or coffee) or I've ordered something like a chicken breast sandwich and just ate the chicken. Eventually I'll eat more variety when out, but it's been nice to focus on the companionship and not the food.

I am 4 months post op and in the earlier months I was so nervous about eating out. I was trying so hard to do everything correct. But as time went on I found that pretty much anywhere we go I always find something to order. We either share or I bring stuff home for another meal.
We went out for my friends birthday the other day and when I got home I realized what a good time I had. I focused more on the company than the food, it was actually pretty cool. I never feel weird cause of how I have to eat and it doesn't bother me with what other people are eating.
This is just my new normal and I am loving it!!

Use common sense. Protein first then veg. Depending on the situation I either do not order a beverage or just ask for Water and set it aside.
Eating out has not been an issue for me.
