carbgrl got a reaction from TxCalico in What Was Your Breaking Point?
I'm almost 5 mos post op. I've only thrown up twice. Both times, I consider it my fault. I ate re-heated meat that was to dry. I knew my sleeve couldn't handle it. Now, when I had the lapband, I threw up ALL the time. Dalily, multiple times a day. If you don't want to throw up - Don't get the lapband.
My turning point was because I just felt so fat and miserable all the time. I couldn't stand looking at myself in the mirror. I avoided social situations. I was missing out on life and I worried about my future based on my health. I'm a slow loser, so it's frustrating but, I don't regret it at all. Most of all, I'm so happy to be rid of the band. I wish I had gotten the sleeve to begin with. Good luck to you.

carbgrl got a reaction from Annie04 in Bougie Size And Amount Of Weight To Lose - Is There A Relationship?
I love that!!! LOL I had a 36 bougie. Aside from the evening after surgery, I did not have any problems drinking Water, keeping fludis down, sliming or vomiting. Since I started on mushy food I could eat at least 4 oz. I feel like I can eat almost "normal" size portions. I can eat a smart ones meal with no problems. I can eat about 1/2 chicken breast 2-3 oz, plus 2-3 oz of veggies no problem. Sometimes I wish I had a little more restriction and faster weightloss, but I'm glad I didn't have any of the problems. When I had the lapband I slimed and vomited almost daily and I knew I couldn't live the rest of my life like that. I'm happy I can eat chicken, turkey, salad and veggies again. My surgeon said she likes the 36 because she believes it's the size with the least complications but, I agree the surgeon's technique will vary widely depending on how close they sew to the bougie... I also agree it's most important to be comfortable with the surgeon. How many surgeries has he/she done, what's his precentage of leaks, is it a center of excellence... I think if someone would didn't know I had surgery watched me eat they'd would just think I'm a light eater and not suspect I had surgery. I'm very happy aobut that. Running to the bathroom to vomit during meals is a horrible way to live.

I'm a sugar addict too. I use sugar substitutes. I know those chemicals are bad for you too. Someday I'd like to quit those too but, in the meantime it get's me by. I try to stick to low carb as much as possible to keep the cravings under control.
I went to a birthday party yesterday and there was an awesome looking birthday cake with thick chocolate frosting. I was able to resist. I guess, I want to lose weight more than I wanted the chocolate cake. I think occasionally it's ok to have a little treat once in a while but, if I can resist hopefully, I'll get to my goal quicker. Good luck.

Thanks Grammy. Definitely lesson learned. Although, I'm close to goal I have a long way to go to make life long changes. I still struggle with head hunger, eating slowly, sugar addiction, mindful eating. I probably should go to counseling but life is to crazy right now. I trying to work on it on my own. I'm reading a book on mindful eating right now. As you said, acknowledging I have a problem is half the battle.

, carbgrl hey girlfriend, what were you thinking????
not being a dr of course, your comment about having trouble digesting/dealing with that sugar in a small stomach - "sounds" like a good thought to me
the bad news - you realize that you shouldn't have so much sugar, the good news is that you realize you shouldn't have so much sugar
knowing the problem is 1/2 the battle - now you can deal with your answer
i doubt very much you now have diabetes
it works the other way around usually - i was diabetic/insulin past 20 years - post WLS and a short bit of time, no more diabetes - reason this happens to many diabetics, is we have changed our eating, eat less, then weigh less
in the past my PCP always said if i would loose "a little weight" that would help my diabetes - never did
we all need to stay away from excess sugar
i think your tummy was yelling at you - i wondered what that noise was
going back to basics, to "make yourself feel better, get back on track" - is never a bad idea
look at your weight loss - you go girl
if they could see you now....... love to sing - good you don't have to listen
    take care

I just had my revision this morning. My story with the band is similar to yours. The doctor warned me that I won't have that constrictive feelin from the band so I need to pay extra attention to feelin when my pouch is full. There is also data that says revisions don't lose as fast as new sleevers, but I sure as heck am not going to Lose any if I don't do something !!!

I am about 8 1/2 months out and can eat a lot. I could actually eat more than I do. But I have a set plan and I really try to stick with it. I am getting from 1000-1200 calories per day, less than 50 carbs, and 80-100 grams of Protein.
My weight loss has slowed way down, but I am about 10 pounds from goal. Still, I am losing, just a pound every week or so. I'm good with that.
I do allow myself to partake naturally at luncheons, business meetings, family gatherings, special occassions. I have pizza once a week and eat all that I can - which is one piece!
Rest of the time, I stick to the plan.
I'm so grateful. Surgery went well. No complications. Lost lots of weight. Can tolerate most foods. How lucky is all that??

I have heard of cross over addictions also and feel it is a legitimate concern. I'm 9 weeks out and have gone thru many emotions over the loss of my comfort buddy food but I've been determined from the beginning to kick this addiction in the butt. I've kicked so many other addictions from my past, it's freeing to have this as one of the last on my list (only next to caffiene). For whatever reason, I feel very protective over my new stomach and couldn't imagine drinking or smoking now (I used to enjoy both very much) and possibly hurting it.
If you are concerned my best advice is to be proactive. I find the rough spots in the road much easier to deal with preparation. Get a good therapist and continue through until you get to a good place comfortable with the adjustment (bcuz it is a BIG adjustment)
I went to Mexico so there was no kind of psych eval or any mental preparation for what I've gone thru and I was a little surprised at some of the emotions I experienced. How can I feel depressed when I finally got what I've been dreaming of for 14 years???? I'm pushing past it and am excited to live a life not controlled by food!
My faith has also been a huge rock to help along this journey so I'm thankful for that. Guess I could say I have a Jesus addiction but hey it's nothing but positive energy and no negative side effects so I'll probably keep this one. Caffiene, however, I'm putting you on notice, cuz your butt is getting kicked next! haha
Good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Do a circuit plan. You can do this plan with no equipment.
I've done this in the past....
    20 body weight squats
    10 push-ups
    20 crunches
    20 mountain climbers
    10 burpees
    Run 200 yards
Do this whole circuit without rest. After the run, rest 1 minute then repeat. Do it as many times as you can, or just keep going for 30 minutes. It's tougher than it sounds if you don't rest between exercises. You can tweak this any way you want. Add or eliminate any exercises you like.
