  1. Two months postop--35 pounds gone and am in the 180s. Clothes are baggy. I am eating semisolids quite well, but will rely on protein shakes for my lifetime--I love them! My grad school classes start next week, and in 3 weeks I will be returning to substitute teaching if I don't get permanent work right away. I feel like my life is renewed and that I can tackle most things with the vigor and savvy necessary. I feel very well, and am so glad I had surgery. This Sleeve is awesome!!

    Disappointed!

Hi, Rocky! You are doing great! I am just 2 months postop and have lost 35 pounds. Your body has to adjust to the new dietary needs. If you take your liquids, do your supplements with protein and vitamins, exercise, and follow the rules, you will lose the weight. I think smaller losses consistently is far healthier than the huge losses that is mostly water weight instead of fat. Do not beat yourself up! Look at what you have accomplished now in relation to where you were before you had surgery--the difference is daunting in a good way!! Ronda

  4. Sorry you had your auto accident that pushed back WLS a bit. Hoping the best as you heal and prepare for your sleeve surgery. :rolleyes:Ronda
  5. I went to the doctor for my checkup. I have lost 30.5pounds now. He was very pleased with my progress. Found out I was not taking enough vitamins tho. Gotta repent on that ! Also looking to exercise once the heat leaves. I am excited--my wardrobe is baggy, baggy! I am very well and beginning to look well. Looking forward to returning to work the end of this month. Hoping all sleevers are doing well!!

    Denied!

Maybe you are losing calcium, or you might have thyroid deficiencies. I would not gain weight, but just show documents where you have tried to lose weight with diet, exercise and general calorie counting to no avail. Check your bones out and joints because you may have probs with your knees and low back. I would also do pulmonary tests to see if you have asthma--I got diagnosed with it last winter before I got surgery.

    Can They Do This??!

Report this matter to your State Insurance Commissioner--They will get to the bottom of this matter!

I hate to say this but...

I am doing well-32.5 lost!! Still concentrating on protein shakes that I am going to use the rest of my life. I like them, and they keep me satisfied better. Still having issues with some meats, but have been successful with eggs, tuna, light cheeses, and string cheese. Breads, I do whole wheat toasted dry, graham cracker (Low fat), organic oatmeal with flaxseed, I also like carbsmart tortilla for wraps. My problem is the meat gets cooked too dry, I take a bite or 2, it backs up into my throat then I wind up nauseated. Choking scares me. Will be returning to work soon, so will have to make sure my menus are protein packed. I also eat 2T dry roasted peanuts. Veggies, I need to puree still. because I am 2 mos postop.

    Imurance is switching!

Natasha, I would get all prelims done asap. Document to the maximum!! If you have any cardio and pulmonological screens, and clearances, get them sent to surgeon and keep copes of all reports, diagnoses, and the like--also xrays. When Aetna coverage kicks in, those records can be used by the surgeon to submit to Aetna for approval. Your preop supervised diet records should be enough to override requirements of the 6 months, esp if you have comorbid symptoms currently. I was persistent for 4 solid years before surgery on May 31. You must be proactive with all parties from doctors to insurances to get this surgery. It is worth your life! I am so glad I did it!!
  10. Gee, I am 2 months postop. Going to see the doctor Wed morning. Weight loss today is 32.5 pounds! I am just shy of the 180s at 190.5!! Hooray!!!

    Medicare Hybrid

:rolleyes:I hope she can get herself healed so that she can get treated for her weight--that would nip diabetes in the bud!! If you take the protein and vitamin supplement as the doctor directs, you won't have any trouble with malnutrition after surgery. Dr. Simon is really the best! My sister is not quite ready to pursue WLS. She had part of one foot amputated in April (diabetes) so she is still recuperating. She had a bypass about 30 years ago that had to be reversed. I think it was practically experimental. She ended up with such severe malabsorption issues she had to have it reversed and she gained back all the weight and more Not sure she would be candidate, but if she can get this wound healed she may be giving your doctor a call.

    Imurance is switching!

I had started my pcp supervised dieting last Sept By Dec, I had had the dietician consults and psych eval completed. My clearances with cardiologist and pulmonologists were also done by this time, however, I had to wait until Feb of this year to really push for getting surgery because that was when my 6 month period ended. Fortunately, I switched surgeons after having a miserable experience with the first surgeon--by a stroke of luck the ins referred me to the doctor I had originally seen in 2007 for the same problem--regained weight, and how to fix the bypass I had in 2001. I have been on welfare and state Medicaid due to economic hardship. My surgery is covered through Medicaid, and I have followup care after my surgery 2 months ago. I feel swell! Have lost 30 pounds and continuing on the path of good health and wellness for my lifetime. I am so lucky!!!

    Medicare Hybrid

Wonderful news! Thank you for keeping me posted. How is your sister doing? :DRonda Received a phone message yesterday that even though Medicare declined, my secondary, Aetna, had approved!!!! I have completed all the prerequisites except the lab work. Am hoping for an August surgery date or September at the latest.

    Denied!

Eat your favorite foods--develop joint pain and pre-diabetes.

    Imurance is switching!

Make sure you keep records of progress so far--diet, labs, consults, etc. Also, your first concern is potential exclusion of bariatric surgery in the new plan--find that out asap.

    Medicare Hybrid

Obamacare is supposed to operate similarly, but the argument is the cost of supporting such a healthcare plan. I am drawing welfare due to decline in employment nationwide. Politically, the Republican Party is fighting the Congress over any new taxes. Our people face terrible economic conditions and no work!

I hate to say this but...

When weather cools in the fall I will be exercising more. Hard to be outside when nearly 110 degrees! I find the protein is key to keep me from thinking hunger. If I take too much carb, I don't do as well with lost weight. Working so hard to reach 30 pound loss and inch into the 180's. Not too easy!! I do fine if my food is moist, not backed up into my throat. I seem to get nauseated if it backs up into my throat--I fear that I might choke. I tolerate soft, and smooth foods well. I will always have to use protein shakes to supplement my eating. Ronda
