Adri got a reaction from Summermoose in Should I Sleeve if I am NOT A BIG EATER?
Doesn't most digestion happen in the intestines, not the stomach? Maybe gastric bypass is for you? I would talk to as many doctors as possible to get your "physiology" theories verified. But from my own experience and what you see on these boards, the reason the sleeve works is because of the restriction.
So far, I have not tried junk food...candy, Cookies, cakes, potato chips, etc... But I can eat very high calorie, rich foods without a problem...beef, fried pork, bread, Pasta, rice, baked potatoes, even had two KFC chicken legs tonight (without the skin) and 2T of cole slaw with no problem (and I'm only 8 weeks from surgery). So if I decided to go out of control with the types of food I eat,,,I'd be a gone-r, the only thing I can rely on is the restriction to help me. The rest is up to me.
I hope this information helps in some way. I wish you the best!
P.S. Excess fat affects your hormones, so therefore the loss of that fat will also affect your hormones. The real question is, will this surgery help you lose fat if you are not an overeater. ???(I am diabetic and it has much improved since surgery because of the fat loss.)

Adri got a reaction from logicwand in how long is the 3 week stall?
My stall started closer to 4 weeks after surgery (at that point I had lost about 35lbs) and it lasted 3 weeks. It was a lonnngggg 3 weeks, but I'm losing pretty consistently now, slower but consistent.

    Mexican Cook Signing In!
Well, I started off with canned nonfat refried Beans with melted cheddar by the 3rd week. Making frijoles de la olla yourself is good because then you can control the fat. When I started making scrambled eggs I added tabasco. By week 5 I was putting "taco sauce" on my food and had my first little bowl of chile colorado (con carne de res). It was cooked long and slow so the meat was very tender. I also had sopa de fideo early on. During the mushy stage I was putting aguacate on all my meat so it went down easier.
Now that I'm almost 3 months out I've added chicharrones (not too much if they are fatty). I've also had mexican style shrimp cocktail, but it gave me diarrhea...I think it was too much Tomato, especially since I had just eaten some chips and salsa. Moderation is the key. Last weekend, for the first time since before surgery, I had my favorite breakfast---chorizo con huevos y nopalitos (fresh cut from the garden!) with a slice of queso fresco (Ranchero). The difference from before wls is that this time I only had one egg instead of 3, 1 corn tortill instead of 6, and no papas fritas. But the great thing about the sleeve is that I enjoyed it just as much. Next on my list is to try chile verde. I'm dying for some menudo, but I'm afraid it might be too rich to eat at this point. Oh, I have had tamales de puerco en chile colorado...que ricos!!
I think that's about it. All but the one exception has gone down fine, but I will tell you I've been on a PPI since the liquid stage, that definitely helps. My sleeve has not let me down--it's a Mexican sleeve--and still loves its chile picoso!!

    Hi Li'l Miss Diva,
Thanks so much for your initial post and the list. This is just what I needed. I just finished printing it out to carry with me where ever I go! I could make up a lot of excuses, but let's just say my main challenge lately is that I can tell I can fit more food in my sleeve just in time for the holidays! I was down to 179 two weeks ago and now I'm up to 183. Major bummer. I know I haven't been following the rules so I'm ready to get back on track with your help...
I hadn't been on the site in awhile, but folks like you make me remember what a valuable resource we are to each other. :-)

Adri got a reaction from Brenda0928 in How tired are you?
Starting at my 3rd week after surgery (days 15 to 20), I came home from work, went straight to bed and slept 2 to 3 hours each afternoon/evening. I could've gotten more Water in, but really I think it was just my body using its energy to heal. All will be well; by day 21 I was pretty much back to my old self.

Adri got a reaction from dreao in Slow losing due to diabetes?
I have Type 2, very insulin resistant. Was on 850 mg metformin 2x a day; Novolog insulin as needed and Lantus insulin at bedtime 55 units; and lisinopril.
I have lost 50 lbs in 3 months. Glucose levels have been in low 100s, hi 90s. I no longer take the Novolog and lisinopril. Metformin is the same, Lantus is down to 11 units each night and going down all the time. I see my endocrinologist in 2 months and he said by then I will most likely be off the insulin completely.
I think I've been losing at a pretty average rate. I've had some stalls, but don't think I'm anywhere near having a "problem" losing weight.
And as a side note, my carb cravings are practically gone completely; haven't had a candy or dessert since before surgery...for me that is nearly a miracle!!

Adri got a reaction from nicden17 in You weigh less than me and You better not weigh less than me!!
My best friend has been tracking my weight weekly since my surgery. I was always the fatter one, by at least 20 lbs. I am now within 3 lbs of her current weight. I'm dreading what will happen when I pass her up...or down I should say. Wish me luck, I hope this won't change our relationship. But I have this awful feeling...
