Jerald180 got a reaction from GreenTealael in One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
Thanks so much for posting all this. I’m one of those rare “dudes” here who just had the MGB 3 weeks ago tomorrow. I’ve lost 23 lbs. that’s good I imagine. Go to Dr next week for my 1st post surgery appointment.
ive been very confused as to how and what I can or should eat once I get through this initial 4 week post op period.
lots of mixed messages on these forums so hearing it laid out by another guy is a big help.
I would like to know that once you hit the weight that you should be at, I need to lose another 85 lbs or so, how do you “return to a more normal eating life” and not continue to lose weight? That make sense?
as I go along this new road, I will contact you if I have issues but so far I e had none of the typical post op things most folks do.

by the way, I am 68 so it’s never too late to change your life. Goal is to eliminate future orthopedic issues in the lower extremities.
    thanks again for all this.

Had my mini gastric bypass on Nov 19th. As of today I am down 29 lbs. Is that average? Almost seems excessive. A pound a day…

Just returned home today after surgery Friday. Aside from the 6 holes and internal goings on, it’s been smooth sailing. Just have to get a routine down of what to intake when…any help is greatly appreciated!

Had my first “anything but water” but not enlightenment . No nausea at all . Just got a bowl of hot chicken broth. Could only take in half of it. Still in hospital and will hopefully be out tomorrow

The rule of thumb around here is its best to follow YOUR plan and listen to YOUR team. Best thing I did is to read the paperwork
start to Finish Writing down questions as I went but then going back And taking it step by step reading just a little ahead as I progressed. It can be a bit overwhelming to try to learn it all 100% ahead of time. Perhaps this will work for you too.

Your issue is that you are reading about other people's programs all of which are somewhat different and often conflicting. There is nothing that someone here is not eating, drinking, injecting, snorting, or smoking from the day of surgery onward. In the context of THEIR programs it may be correct but in the context of YOUR program, not.
Your surgeon's team has given a lot of paper work on your program. Study it. If you have questions, ask your surgeon's team. Follow it. If you have issues or concerns your surgeon's team is where your answers lie.
Some information here will fit into your program. Unless you know your program you can't know what tips here fit into it. The basics like "what to eat," "how much," and "how often" are critical to your plan and come from your medical team.
    Knowledge is power.
    Good luck.

    Jerald180 got a reaction from summerseeker in Pre-Op Today…
Sitting at hospital waiting on pre-op after having the same meeting earlier today with surgeon. Went over several pages of do’s and don’ts, the 1st week post op through week 3. So much structure and so many supplements and Vitamins. liquids for 3 weeks… A lot to “digest” (pardon the pun) at once. From the 19th till Jan 1 no chewable food. There goes Christmas along with Thanksgiving…🤣🤣

Jerald180 got a reaction from OutdoorsGirl in November Surgery Buddies!!!
November 19th I’m having my lap band removed and replaced with the MGB. Trying to get me head right about the drastic change in foods I will be allowed especially the 1st couple of months. Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays are traditionally big eating holidays and will not be enjoying the feasts as before… I suppose I will have to clean out the pantry and fridge if unacceptable foods etc. any suggestions heading into this. I’m in Atlanta area if anyone is close let me know

I’m having it done here in Atlanta by a highly experienced and respected bariatric surgeon. He has done many of them and likes them because with only the one hook up, there is less chance of future issues or leaking. Does the same as regular bypass…

Jerald180 got a reaction from GreenTealael in Interested in sleeve but dr suggests mini bypass
I was steered from the sleeve to the mini bypass by my dr. After meeting with a nutritionist this week and saw what all I will be doing daily with Vitamins, minerals, supplements, shakes, B12 shots, etc, along with the complicated lists of veggies and other foods I can’t eat, I’m turned off with the mini bypass. Is it just as complicated with the sleeve and are there future medical issues that are different than with the mini bypass?
