  1. How are you doing today?

    Should I call the Doc?

Thanks all for your advice, kind words, and concern. I'm doing a bit better physically but still on the downhill emotionally. I can't believe I did this to myself. Trying to stay hydrated. Maybe getting 5 grams of protein in a day. I can start on purees on Wed. Looking forward to some beans.
  3. I had A LOT of nervousness before surgery and almost cancelled....decided to go ahead with it on Wednesday Dec 15. Everything went fine. Went home feeling good on Friday. Friday night I had to go to the ER and was re-admitted due to an infection (one of those bugs you get from the hospital). Got out again on Sunday. My husband and kids have been troopers. I am not getting enough water and have tried 5 different protein driinks....they all make me gag. I'm very scared about not getting enough protein intake. They said to get 80 grams of protein. Say what? My estimate is about 15 grams. I'm doing yogurt in the morning and broth at lunch and dinner but no protein supplement. I know I will get more protein in next week on purees, is it o.k to wait that long or should I call the Doc? I'm really regretting this and feeling sorry for myself...my instincts were right not to go through with this.
  4. Hi. My name is Rebecca. I'm having my VSG surgery next week on Dec 15th. I have 2 kids: an almost-3 year old daughter and a 16 year old step-son. My husband and I don't have any other family close by and don't socialize too much (work & kids take up all of our time). I'm very scared and nervous of the surgery and of having complications develop and would love some support from a veteran. My husband has done his best to read up on my surgery and post-surgery diet/possible complications/etc. but he does not understand what I am going through. My extended family is against me having the surgery. I'm reaching out....hope someone is there. Thanks.

    Aftermath

I'm worried, too. My surgery is next week (still thinking about cancelling) and I am on my per-op diet. My family was happily eating enchiladas last night and I felt so sad and upset. Then all I could think about was going to Dominoes and getting a large pep & salami for myself! But, I did not do it. I would hate to have this surgery and not lose some weight or gain it all back.

    Chickening Out

I cannot even explain how much all of these comments are helping me. It calms my fears just knowing that their are folks going through exactly what I am going through at exactly the same time. I have my final per-op appt tomorrow and I am now leaning more toward having the surgery than not. I live near Portland, OR. I have not attended any of the local support groups because I don't have anyone to watch the kids at those times. Thank you for all of your support!

    Chickening Out

Thank you all for your comments. The only person that I have told about my surgery is my husband and he does not understand what I am going through.
  8. Hi Everybody, My surgery is scheduled for Dec 15th. I was so excited when my insurance approved the VSG surgery but am now thinking of backing out. I'm scared of going under. What if I have some un-diagnosed heart problem? Why would I be so selfish to take this risk with a toddler at home? I am also scared of recovery. My husband will only have the day of my surgery and the next off from work. After that, it is all me. I have to take care of the house and kids and recover in a week to get back to my own job. Can I do this? Should I do this? I'm taking a deep breath. . .

    Any December Sleevers?

I am scheduled December 15th in Portland, OR. Whoot! Whoot! So excited to start my new life and the new year!
  10. Hi All. I'm scheduled for my surgery next month and have been reading and researching in preparation. I read recently that bypass patients sometimes have trouble with "stringy" meat. Any sleeve patients experince problems with "stringy" meat? When I think of stringy meat I think of roast, pulled pork/chicken, etc.
  11. Hi Losers (I hope to be one myself next month!!), Can you please offer some advice on what I should have on-hand at home after the surgery? I know I need pretien powder, broths, sugar-free Jello, etc. but what about the other stuff. I have seen posts about Hibiclens (anti-bacterial soap), B12, chewable multi-Vitamins, heating pad, etc. The more prepared I can be I think the better I will feel going into surgery. Thanks for your help!
  12. Nobody has ever mentioned the endoscope to me . . . I have a call in to my surgeon's office. I'm not sure if everybody gets that or maybe it depends on the surgeon? I do have a pre-op diet....it is a low-fat, HIGH-Protein diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I have posts from others that they were on liquids for 1 - 2 weeks prior to surgery.
  13. Hi, I think it depends on your insurance and program. I went to the initial seminar and appointments in August. I had blood work done. I had already had a sleep study done earlier this year and was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. My insurance requires 3 visits with a dietician within 90 days. I also had an appt with a psychiatrist. I am having surgery next month. Good luck!

    Endoscope

Hi Everybody. My surgery is scheduled in Dec and nobody has mentioned an endoscopy to me. Does everyone get an endoscopy before surgery?

Do I have a good surgeon?

My surgeon is Dr. Halpin in Portland, OR. Her profile on obesityhelp.com is NOT up-to-date. I know she is very experienced with Lap Band & Gastric ByPass surgeries. Thanks for the info.
