High Blood Pressure & Diabetes after WLS

You don't have to be over weight to be diabetic. I don't know why doctors always base everything on weight. Yes, in *some* cases it helps your blood sugar to lose weight, but it takes much more. You have to watch the type of foods you eat. If you're eating all these carbs, that won't help you one bit. As you mentioned, family history plays a role as well. Regular exercise is important as well. Same with BP. Its not just weight that elevates it.

    need ideas for mushies...

Re: meats Check with your doctor. My doc said absolutely no meats until after day 31. Not even if pureed.

Has anyone felt like they aren't...

I think you're all losing great!! 38 pounds in a month? 50 in two months? Wow. If you girls think your weight loss is slow, mine is snail pace. LOL. :biggrin0:

Day 0 just got ho,e from hospital !

Yup. Walk and walk some more. That is the only thing that will get rid of the gas and the pressure. I was walking the day following surgery around the hospital and going round and round in my hospital room at night. Even when I got home I still had gas and again, it was walking, walking, walking. After a few days it feels better.

    blood work--how often?

For me it was 1st check-up at 3 months consisting of an upper GI, CBC, and SMAC24. You should check with your surgeon (even if out of state) to see if he recommends other tests.

    Quality of life after sleeve

In a heartbeat. I wish I would have had the surgery sooner, but I wasn't mentally ready yet. I am now and if I had to do it over again, I would still have the surgery. At first you go through an adjustment period. Your stomach is healing and in a way retraining itself. It has to get used to the new foods and with it you might have some side effects here and there. Its the same if you were to injure your leg. You wouldn't just go run a marathon. You would take it slow until you were stronger. Same thing with your stomach. I had some issues with my stomach refusing certain foods and nausea. I was over producing acid as well and didn't really want to eat. That is not the case now. All of that has gone away. I can eat, but in smaller portions, and my quality of life HAS improved. I feel great.

(some pics)proof you have to lift weights!

Wow! Great work. Now I feel hopeful. I am doing cardio now but am itching to start some strength training. I want hot arms as well.

    Arm Exercises

I have the flab as well. I was just going to do a search for suggestions. I know it won't be perfect but I am hoping that I can at least help the flab a bit. LOL.

    Breakfast???

GNC sells cups with a shaker ball inside. They work great. You just shake it up.

    How much rabbit food

I eat what I can. If I've met my protein requirement, i'll just eat veggies as my stomach will allow. I try not to stuff myself on it if I am going to eat meats or am short on protein grams for the day.

    Dr. Aceves

I love him. No complaints. Excellent! My mother just scheduled her surgery with him. That is how much I trust him.

    Can I eat....?

I think you should wait a bit. I tried and it just clumps. Not a nice experience.

    Breakfast???

Cottage cheese mixed with yogurt. You can mix in some protein powder for extra protein.

    Ramen Noodles?

I used them when I was on clears. I only used a small amount of the packet at a time. It is very salty so a little really does go a long way. My favorite was the pork flavor. Yum
