MidwestGirl got a reaction from njgal in Sushi
I've had sushi post-op. I loooove sushi! And I don't count carbs (per my nutritionist's advice), so I had sushi rolls. It was a painful experience. Since the pieces are small I tended to want to eat the whole thing at once (wasn't thinking about it) and that was a mistake. But as long as you take it slow, I see no reason for not having occasional sushi. I just tried to take smaller bites, I didn't actually cut it up as I think that would just be messy. It wasn't too terrible with the rolls, as I got the "normal" kind with the rice on the inside, so the seaweed helped hold it together a little bit. Make sure you watch the sauces, though, as I'm sure they're probably not exactly sugar-free. :wink0: If you're worried about carbs, you can always just order sashimi. I definitely wasn't able to eat a whole roll. I think I had maybe 3-4 pieces and I had to have my fiance eat the rest, though I'm sure he didn't mind! I think I could probably eat more at this point (I'm just over 4 months out, and was only about 2 months out when we went). I would love to go more often, but it's hard to find good sushi here in the midwest!

    Hope that helps!

So my roommate and I have a class together, and the classroom has the desks where the chair is connected, you know, the ones designed for SKINNY people? :thumbup1: Anyway, I always grab the ONE desk that has a little extra room (wow, put one fatty desk in the whole classroom...geniuses). The other day, my roommate grabbed my desk and I said "Hey! You took my fat desk!" and she laughed at me. So I sat in a regular one. And for the first time that I can remember in a long time, I didn't feel like I was wedged in there! I fit in desks now!!! WOOT!

I need to try the shadow thing as well. Woot Mini-me! :001_smile:

MidwestGirl got a reaction from starfishwish in Abnormal EKG
    Hi there!

I actually had my EKG quite early in the process because during my visit with the nurse, she noticed I had an irregular heartbeat. So I saw my general physician for my annual appointment & got an EKG as well. She freaked out when she saw the results (and freaked me out too) and got me into the cardiologist for the NEXT day. She also told me there was no way I would get to have the surgery. At this point I was quite upset.

I saw the cardiologist the next day, they did another EKG. After seeing those results, the cardiologist ordered more tests. I did a stress test, a heart sonogram, and a 24 hour holter monitor. Saw the cardiologist a couple weeks later, he told me I had Premature Ventricular Contractions - basically the bottom chamber of my heart pumps too often and so it doesn't always get a chance to completely fill up with blood before it pumps it out. This is actually a quite common heart problem (so they tell me). However, I have about 14,000 PVCs a day, so my heart isn't ALWAYS irregular. My cardiologist said he's seen patients with 70,000 a day - I can only imagine!

He put me on a beta blocker just to protect my heart during surgery, but completely cleared me & wants to see me back in a year. He says it's probably been with me my whole life. Sorry this was a bit long, but I know how frustrated and upset I was when my family doctor told me it was definitely a no-go (though she was never supportive of WLS in the first place...), and I hope I can help so someone else doesn't have to feel that same way! :lol0: So not a deal breaker for me! :party4: Good luck & let us know what you hear back!

Wow! No posts on here for awhile! I have had two NSVs in the last couple weeks that I was so excited about I had to share!

    1) I have collarbones!!!! They're not skinny people collarbones yet, but they are most definitely there. I never woulda guessed. :sad0:

    2) I went to a movie theater last week...and was shocked that I didn't need to use the armrests! I don't know that I have EVER had that happen. I've shrunk enough width-wise that my arms fit comfortably inside the armrests. Such a great one for me! :lol0:

Keep posting here, guys! This is one of my favorite threads to read! :blushing:

Woot! I haven't been on in awhile, but congrats on all of those great NSVs!

I graduated from college this past Saturday, and at our graduation practice, I had two classmates (neither of whom has seen me since at least December, and I got sleeved in Jan.) make comments. And this was with my gown on. One said, "Wow, Randi! You look amazing! How much weight have you lost?!" And I just said "a lot." :lol0: And the other girl (a SKINNY girl) said "Holy crap, Randi! You're like half the size you were before. You look awesome! How are you doing that? Just eating better?" And I said..."yep" hahaha. :001_tt2: I love when other people notice. Makes it all feel much more real.
