I am a mom of two (under 5) and while I haven't had a ton of pain, it has been a little tough. I have depended on others to help me out with taking my daughter to school and bringing her home. I had a nanny here all week. But this is ONLY because I have a 1 year old that is over 30 lbs. My surgeon just didn't feel I should be picking him up. If I just had my daughter, I would probably had people help with driving, but that is it. I was cleared to drive on Wednesday, so 10 days out I was fine. I REALLY feel okay to be on my own, but I am keeping the babysitter booked tomorrow. I am thinking of going to the mall and just walking around.

Interesting situation last night

I talked to my surgeon today. He still stands by the fact that you can have pills. I expressed my concern and he assured me that it was okay-but that each pill should be spread out by 30 minutes. He said that after a week that the place (sorry, don't know the name) where the stomach empties-it tightens up a bit. He said that probably happened and that is why I was okay doing that at first, but now I need to watch it. -
I'm gagging over here!
excited2lose replied to MINI-Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alright, here it is. You can play with it to make it is thin or thick as you want it. In the stage I am in, I made it pretty thin. Peanut Butter and banana smoothie 350 cal and 20 gm of Protein (Cal count is high, but for how little I am eating, I figured I could splurge) 1/3 cup powdered skim milk 1/2 cup Water 3 crushed ice cubes (I did more like 8) 1 tsp imitation vanilla (I did 1/2 tsp) 1 pkg artificial sweetener (I skipped it. I hate artificial sweetener!) 2 tbsp creamy peanut butter 1/2 banana Blend nonfat milk with water. Add peanut butter and blend until smooth. Add remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth. Makes one cup. I thought this one sounded good too, but I didn't try it. Peach Smoothie 95 cal and 8 gm of protein 6 oz 100 percent peach nectar or juice 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese Blend well. Strain if necessary to remove any unblended pieces. Makes 2 1/2 cup servings. pineapple smoothie 90 cal and 7 gm of protein per serving 6 oz 100 percent pineapple juice 1/2cup low fat cottage cheese Blend well. Strain if necessary to remove any unblended pieces. Makes two 1/2 cup servings. -
I'm gagging over here!

I made my own shake today. I will post the recipe later. I am like you-I am gagging over the things that I originally loved. This one was decent and had a good amount of protein in it. After my 1 year old goes down for his afternoon nap I will post it. -

Oh, and I am on an acid reducer. Just trying to remember the name....the coating of that pill is what came up. -
Interesting situation last night

My doctor gave me pills in the hospital. My throat is so sore today from the incident. I am going to call once my son is down for his nap. -
for more ideas for full liquids. I just don't like cottage cheese or yogurt. I don't like artificially sweetened things. I like strained broccoli cheddar soup-but I have eaten that ENOUGH. I am so done with brocc cheddar soup! I eat soupy grits and soupy oatmeal. I supplement proti diet in my water, so I am getting protein that way. I just honestly don't know how I am going to do this for another 2 weeks.
-
Full liquids-please please please give me some ideas on what to eat/drink. All of a sudden my Protein shakes taste like hell. I am doing great on Water. This morning I had very watery low sugar, high protein oatmeal. (I mean-totally watery), chicken noodle Soup sans noodles-basically just broth), a little chocolate milk and more water. I am just at a loss. Nothing sounds good. I would drink water all day if I could and forgo food. But I know I can't. Please give me more ideas!

Tell me the truth.
excited2lose replied to excited2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an update to this. I did NOT cheat, but yesterday when I met with my NUT, she asked me if I followed the diet. I told her yes and then she smiled. She said most people don't, but as long as you replace a shake with a high Protein snack (cheese stick?), you will be alright. You would think I wish I would have known that-but honestly, sticking to all liquids really taught me a lot about myself and I am really glad I did it. -
If you were on a full week (or more) of liquids before your surgery, did you cheat? I have done really well since Monday, but I would love a string cheese stick right now. It is still low in carbs, do you think it will hurt?

I am in full liquids and I water down oatmeal and grits. My doctor told me as long as I could drink it, it counted. I'm sticking with it. -
Post surgery full liquids.
excited2lose replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does soup run through everyone? All these liquids make me run to the bathroom all the time. I am taking immodium, but it certainly isn't helping. -
Thanks, Tiff. I made the tomato soup with melted cheese and it was really good. It was something different. I appreciate it!

I was going to type out a whole explanation while today was rough, but I honestly don't feel I have the energy. Today was just a rough day. I don't feel good, I am tired. I am cold. That's about it.

Post surgery full liquids.
excited2lose replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no way I could drink a can of soup. I am lucky to get four good sips/bites down. I have to constantly sip water just to keep that going. Last night I made soupy grits and I took probably 5 bites. I thought I was going to die later. I was so full and miserable feeling. -
I know some call this onederland, but since I wasn't all that much heavier than 200 lbs (225), let's just say "under 200." So officially I am down 26 lbs. I am one week and two days out. (Plus I lost during the pre op diet) I feel like it comes at a bit of a price. I haven't been feeling nearly as good the past day or so. I was doing WONDERFUL and then-BAM.... out of breath, light headed, just kind of a blah feeling. I am hoping to get some rest today and push Protein. Hopefully that will help.

For the person that asked about benefiber (this is probably WAY late)-it tastes like ass. (i'm sorry, just telling the truth) I opened one canister and ewwwwwwww....so gross. I would be more than happy to send anyone mine. (for free of course) The smell...oh yikes. But I have a "smell" issue, so that could be it.

Tiff, those sound really good right now. I ate some watery grits earlier. Yuck. (I love grits, but watery? Yeah, not so much.) -
Not feeling so hot, but it is done. I had to stay an extra day because my oxygen levels were low, but I am home now. I had some baby applesauce when I got home, now I am having a protein shake. I am in some pain, but not too bad. I didn't have much gas pain either. I was just so tired of sitting in that bed. Oh well. It is done now!

Surgery Recovery Sucks!
excited2lose replied to MINI-Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had very little pain. I do have the bubble discomfort after eating. The first day I had some pain-nothing bad at all. The second-I had some, so they gave me diludad. I really don't know why-then they gave me too much. So I would have much rather just dealt with the pain. I was hallucinating. Ugh. Anyway, the next day I was to be released, but my oxygen levels were too low. (75% or so) So they kept me. (Even though this happens every time I have a surgery and I am always fine, but I understand) That night I just walked as much as possible and the next morning I was released by 10 am. That day, I slept on and off because I could. :cool0: I had my dad here, so he was watching my 1 year old and the 5 year old was at school. On Friday, I just relaxed, and enjoyed my husband's help when my dad flew home. Over the weekend, we lounged around-I walked as much as possible indoors. (it was WAYYYY cold outside) Sunday, we walked around Target for a while and went out for lunch. I did great. Today-SEVEN days after surgery, I am SO weak. I don't know why! I just feel so out of breath after going up the stairs or taking the dogs out. I have been fine until now. I am going to my post op appt tomorrow, so I am hoping he can offer some insight-I am sure it is normal, but I just want to make sure. -
I am. I *was* feeling all the way back to normal, but today I seem to be really weak. I have no idea if that is normal or not. I am one week out.

and I am down 25 lbs. I thought it was 23, but today on the wii fit it said 25. I will go with it. That does include the preop diet-so in 2 weeks I have lost 25 lbs. Full liquids is hard for me. I am eating a lot of soup of course. I have to do this for 3 weeks. I will make it. I am very pleased. At times I still feel some discomfort, but it is nothing I can't handle. I am very very happy to be sleeved!:001_tt2:

Why am I hungry.
excited2lose replied to amerigirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not dealing with hunger in any way. However, I would kill for a coke right now. I just have to remind myself that I didn't alter my body to just give in to a coke. It is so tough, and I understand! Hang in there! -
Phatmanwalking, The Wii is a gaming system from Nintendo. The Wii fit is a game that goes with it. You can do all types of fun activities on it to burn calories and stay in shape. It has this thing you stand on that takes your weight and stats. It is fun. The kids like it, my husband likes it.... a fun family activity when you live somewhere very snowy!

I have the....WHAT IF'S....
excited2lose replied to Margoboo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My 5 year weight history hovered around 40. It was sometimes above, sometimes below, sometimes right at 40. I was like you-really worried they would deny me. Nope, they approved! I think you will be fine. Good luck!
