  1. We have a pool volleyball game planned for Saturday at my Dad's house. We have a lot of fun with it & it's pretty darn good exercise! Anyway, since my surgery, my bathing suit is very loose around my shoulders. It still fits good everywhere else (thankfully bathing suits stretch & retract easily). I've looked around for a new suit, but none of the stores still have bathing suits. I've decided it isn't worth the money anyway, because next year I plan to need a new one in many sizes smaller! :laugh0: So, my fear is while playing volleyball Saturday, my shoulder straps will fall down & I'll flash everyone with my deflated "balloons"! I about did it the last time I was in the pool, but luckily it was just my kids and dh in the pool. Just thought I'd share my bathing suit saga. Perhaps you needed a good laugh! Wish me luck that my "balloons" stay covered all day Saturday.
  2. I'm pretty sure I've seen surgeons who only do the one leak test while in the OR.

    Big Scare

I'm so glad things checked out okay. I'm sorry to hear you are having back spasms, but relieved that it's nothing worse. I know you must have been scared.

I feel like I'm leaping before looking.

Welcome, Don! I'm sure most (if not all) of us were apprehensive about surgery pre-op. It just comes with the territory. But I still have not heard anyone who has regretted their decision. I'm just 5.5 weeks out, but no regrets here. I have 4 little ones & a loving husband...I want to be able to enjoy them while they are still young (and while I'm still young, for that matter! :laugh0:) Good luck with your surgery. I'll be watching for your updates.
  6. Did he have any more trouble? Have his gall bladder removed? I never want to experience that pain again!
  7. Hi, everyone! I just joined this forum. I am scheduled for my VSG with Dr. Aceves on July 7. Everything is in order and I am excited, nervous, scared, happy...I am just ready to begin the rest of my life! :thumbup1: (Some of you may know me from OH as JSTN28) :wink1:
  8. I'm down just 21 pounds & already people are noticing. Just the other day my FIL asked me how much I've lost and after I told him he said "you can definitely tell it!" He never comments on things like this. Then yesterday at my Dad's house, my step-mom asked me the same question & said the same thing my FIL said! I still can't really tell I've lost 21 pounds. I guess it's because I still see me as 201 pounds.
  9. It's almost time for me to go to the full liquid stage of my post op diet! I'd like to hear some ideas from you guys as I have no clue what to get at the grocery store.

    My first NSV!

Yes, my clothes are fitting a little more loose. They aren't too big yet, but they are definitely getting looser. :thumbup1:

    NO appetite - help?

Glad to hear you are doing well overall. I have trouble getting in enough Protein as well. I do drink atleast 1 Protein shake a day, but I can't eat enough "mushies" to get the rest of my protein. And I can't handle more than one or one and a half shakes a day. The only trouble with eating mushies I've had has been eggs. I'm just ready for some more variety. I've been limited with my mushies choices. I have been feeling a little down lately...but I've got a lot going on in life right now (school starting, football, softball,etc.). Sometimes I think I try to do too much & my emotional health suffers. All in all, my recovery is going well. Be sure to let me know how it goes tomorrow. Good luck!

    NO appetite - help?

kauser-I haven't seen many posts from you lately. Just wondering how things are going.
  13. Well, I'm stalling. I guess it's about the right time, though, since I'm now 4 weeks out. I'm just hoping it doesn't last too long. While I prepared myself for it, it is still frustrating...especially since I feel like I'm not really eating! I get to start solids at the end of this week...I'm hoping that doesn't increase the length of my stall. Just venting, I guess. :001_smile:

    Surgery Date!!!!

Congratulations on getting a date! :001_smile: Good luck!

    My first NSV!

Yes, it feels great to have someone besides my dh notice. Sunday at church, a lady asked me what I was doing to lose weight. I pulled her to the side and told her I had surgery. (We only told our preacher & one other church member that I was having surgery). After we got home, my dh asked me if I believe him now...he's been saying that there is a definite noticable difference, I just can't see it myself.

    NO appetite - help?

I'll look for that chicken salad next time I'm at the grocery store. :001_smile: Mac- I agree. My instructions say the same thing. I'm not having trouble with mushies, per say. Just having trouble finding things I like. Everything except eggs have been okay for me. When I start solids, I'm going to be very careful when choosing what to eat. Oh, and thank you for sharing your experience. It is so hard for me right now to ever think that I'll be able to eat somewhat normal again. It does get depressing sometimes. I'm 4 weeks out now & while things are more normal than they were 3 weeks ago, I still don't see myself eating somewhat normally again.

    NO appetite - help?

Please share the details on this...this might be something I could handle when going to solids. I dont' have the time to make my own, so convenience is nice. :biggrin0:

    NO appetite - help?

independence- I just wanted to say that I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I go to regular foods Friday & while it sounds wonderful, I can't think of anything I want to eat that I think will go down. I'm still living on pudding & yogurt mostly. I still do a Protein shake in the morning & try to get another one in at night, but sometimes I just can't stomach it. I tried eggs again today b/c I'm getting frustrated with my food choices & I only did 2 teeny tiny bites & I couldn't do anymore...I wanted to puke. Fortunately it didn't feel stuck this time, but I honestly just wanted to puke! For some reason, it tasted horrible! I can do refried Beans if I thin them out with taco sauce & sour cream, but I'm all out at the moment. :mad0: I know my protein intake is lower than it's supposed to be, but I just can't do it right now. I can't drink the nectar protein anymore b/c it makes me gag... Keep me posted on how you do going to "normal" foods.
  19. I tried to eat a scrambled egg yesterday and it didn't go down well at all. I didn't get through half of it & I was very uncomfortable. I was careful to eat small bites, chew well, and eat slowly...but I guess I could have eaten too fast. I don't particularly like eggs anyway, but I know it's a good source of protein so I was willing to eat it. I don't think I'll be trying it again for a while.
  20. Amanda, how did you do the tuna salad? Did you put it in the blender? I like boiled eggs, but I am scared to try it after the scrambled egg fiasco. Vegas, what does ricotta cheese taste like? I'm scared to try it!

We start back to school Monday Aug 3!

Yep! That's one of the major benefits. We can take 1/2 days or "sick days"...as long as we get in our 180 for the year, we are good. We usually have more than 180 days easily including any field trips we take. We do start back slowly. We'll spend the first week just doing the 3 R's. Then we'll get back to Science & History the next week. Once our routine is back, we'll throw in our extras like typing, computer, etc. On another note, we just found out that my son's football team will be practicing every night except Wed. night! Yikes! What makes it hard is he plays in another county, so our drive is a bit longer than if he played here. But his football coach is the same man who coached his baseball team last spring & he's a wonderful Christian man...so that's why we chose to let him play there. So, DH will be going with him & I'll take my dd to softball practices on Tues. & Thurs. It's gonna be tough, but my kids want to play & DH and I believe in allowing our kids opportunities to play or do whatever they think they are interested in. You never know...they might be great & win a scholarship one day.:001_tongue:
  22. Don't know how many of you know, but we homeschool. We are starting back Aug.3! I'm both excited & nervous. I'm still working with my DS6 on reading & that will be our biggest challenge for the year. I am determined to get him reading fluently on grade level by the end of our school year. We are trying a different curriculum this year because he absolutely hated the Abeka we did last year. He's very smart, but he prefers math over reading/phonics. He loves to add & counting money is his favorite skill to practice (he's just like his dad :lol0:). My dd8 is a wonderful, self motivated student so she doesn't give me much problems. The main problems that occur with her is that she is a perfectionist...if she misses one problem she gets terribly upset. We're working on that each day. I'm also going to be starting pre-k with my dd4 this time. She is eager to learn her letter & sounds so we'll concentrate on that. I also homeschool my baby sister (she's 11). Her school work is getting more complicated now so it requires more "studying" on my part. It's been 11 years since I've been in school, so I still need to refresh myself on some of the concepts she is learning. :lol0: My ds2 will just be "going with the flow"...probably getting into everything he can while Mommy is distracted with teaching. :lol0: He's my baby & is the last one (barring a miracle from God), so he gets away with A LOT! Anyway, just wanted to share with you all. I may be hit and miss on the forums once school starts back. Our days are usually filled & my nights are spent either at softball practice, football practice, cheerleading practice, or preparing lessons. (Sometimes I manage to squeeze in some quiet time with the dh).:001_tt2: If you really need to contact me, email is the better way...I check it almost every day.

I'm so glad to hear you are doing better! It can be hard not to worry about complications...I'm sure we are all guilty...I know I am!

We start back to school Monday Aug 3!

Yes, it is exhausting during school time around here. You'd think I never would have gotten so fat! :001_tongue: I'm starting off a bit more tired than usual this year. I still haven't regained all my strength and energy since surgery. Hopefully it will return to 100% soon.
  25. I was wondering that myself. I looked at her other posts & she posted at 3 days post-op about being hungry.
