  1. Welcome, I just wanted to lend support to you. I felt down right after being sleeved as well. As your BF said, it takes time and everyone's body is different. WE all must hang in there and do the best that we can with our sleeve.

    I'm not a virgin..............

Tia, I was in your shoes a few months ago, trying to decide to go the Mexico route or the local route. After speaking and booking my date with Dr Aceves (who im sure is GREAT), I just could not get the nerve to leave not knowing all of the what ifs, I guess I wanted to feel comfortable that if something had happened that my family could be there and vouch for me. Therefore, I chose to spend the extra money to stay home. The bottom line is: WHAT is most important to you??? That will give you your answer, unfortunately, we all have different experiences, thoughts and financial situations as it relates to having this surgery. I would vouch for Dr Alanis anyday but if you cant afford it, then you may have to go to another skilled surgeon in MX for less money. Its totally up to you. I guess what im trying to say is, you have to determine what factor is most important to you, in this equation. I spent a good deal of money but my health is worth it but if I couldnt have spent that money, I would have tried an alternative route. Good Luck:thumbup:
  3. Yep, it has been helpful, I guess the answer is just continue to supplement with Protein drinks, which is what I have been doing anyway. Thanks for your feedback.
  4. I recently did a post on my experience- Im about 2+ weeks out. Im down 24 lbs. Recovery for me was EASY,I felt like myself within 3-4 days, I had surgery on a Tuesday, I was back at the gym on the following Sunday. It is a challenge to get adequate intake in though, as we are adjusting to our new tummies. I am thrilled with the results, I am 79 lbs away from my goal. I work out at least 4-5 X per week. I am really trying to get these 79 lbs off as soon as possible! LOL I went back to work at 2 weeks, couldve gone back within days but I wanted to get adjusted to my new life without the distractions from work. So far, im loving being sleeved! Are you sleeved yet? If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
  5. Glad to know that im not the only one who feels that way. I just dont know how im going to get my calories up there. Hopefully, the more experienced sleevers will know what to tell us. LOL
  6. Welcome to the forum, I had my VSG on 9-15-09. I am in my 20's as well. I have been very satisifed with my VSG! I went with Dr Audencio Alanis in Houston, TX. I absoutely adore him as a person and a surgeon! He was so knowledgable and skilled. I am 2 weeks and 2 days out and Ive lost 24 lbs! I had my 2 week follow up appointment today and he was THRILLED with my results. Cost: 11, 500 K 2 nights in surgical center (ICU care 1 night, regular med surg unit 1 night) ***The price has gone up since then though, I think its 13,5K. I loved the hospital, the nurses and the surgeon, I dont regret it, I received TOP NOTCH care! Good luck on your decision, everyone here has given you great advice, its just up to you to decide which direction is best for you!

  8. Hey guys! I am so excited to give you all an update of my newly sleeved progress. Although, these last few wks have been challenging, when I got on the scale this morning, it was ALL worth it. I am down 22 LBS since being sleeved, I cant believe it! I have not lost that much weight before. I am 80 lbs before I reach my goal. Below are thing that I feel have been working for me: 1. Ive been working out everyday 2. Drinking at least 70 oz of Water for the last 5-6 days (im finally able to drink an adequate amt of fluid) 3. I have found a Protein supplement that I can tolerate: (pro to go's creamsicle protein drink- just add water and there ya go. It has 15 grams of protein in it, around 80 calories, around 7 carbs. I drink about 3 per day. Then for the rest of my protein I add the unjury's unflavored protein to my Soups, Jello, etc. Oh yeah and I have an NSV. I went to a restaurant to get some Soup (as I was tired of that ones that ive been having). They gave me an 8 ounce cup for my soup. I got home, took about 5-6 tsps full and WAS STUFFED! Can you believe that. That 8 oz will probably be my lunch and dinner today! What I am finding is that water easily goes down but when the item is thicker (such as cream of chicken soup, etc) I get full so much quicker. I just had to share my first scale and NSV's with you all. I know that its not likely my weight loss will continue at this rate but im glad that I got a good start with it. ONEDERLAND will soon be here in about 20 lbs, so im looking so forward to that! Thanks for listening to me rant.......:patriot:
  9. Question all. It seems that my restriction varies from day to day. Some days, I can drink my Protein drink within an hour and other days it takes about 3-4 hours! That is amazing, I also find the restriction is greater in the morning, therefore, I really cant drink or eat hardly anything until lunch time. However, today was the tightest restriction, that Ive ever had. It wasnt a problem, I just noticied that I couldnt take in as much as I have on previous days--- I mean I drove all the way to the other side of town to get this Soup and all I could eat was about 4 tsps! I was so disappointed BUT so GLAD all at the same time. I will just sip on it for 2-3 days until im done. Is this normal for your post op VSGers? :001_cool:

Congrats! You will do great, Vegas!
  15. P.S- Congrats on a less than 40 BMI! That is GREAT!
  16. Yep, the smell of food is a "Killer". The sleeve makes it so much easier, since we are not starving! I love that about the sleeve!
  17. Starting Weight: 248 lbs Goal Weight: 145 lbs Approximately 80 lbs to go until goal! Woo-Hoo!
  18. Not to me, these are the only ones that Ive tried that don't. Then again, everyone's taste seems to be be "more sensitive" after the sleeve with sweets. My smell seems to be "more keen". I cannot stand the smell of fried or greasy food, thats so strange to me. But no, these Protein drinks dont have the aftertaste to me.
  19. Thanks, you will be on the sleeved side soon! Good luck with your procedure.
  20. Thanks for the encouragement Judy. Good Luck on your VSG on 10-1-09! Keep us posted.
  21. Sorry, here is the link for the pro to go creamsicle: WonderSlim Pro To Go Protein Diet Drinks: RTD Protein Drinks I would like to add that the only other flavor besides Creamsicle that is decent is the chocolate, the other flavors by this brand were gross. I ordered a few of each kind, my fiance will drink the others (he likes them, he's thin and will eat or drink anything) LOL. I did also like the ProtiDiet vanilla- it really tastes like a vanilla milkshake on a hot summer day. So nice, I will be ordering more of those. Here is the link: www.dietdirect.com/proamino-protidiet-proti-shakes.html The link for the unjury unflavored is: www.unjury.com you should be able to search for the flavors *Also, I would also like to state that I was not a big sweet eater prior to VSG, so my taste buds didnt change, so I dont think that the drink is too sweet but hopefully you wont either. It has a really refreshing, "summery-tropical" taste. So hopefully you like it. Enjoy Shanda
  22. Thanks for the encouragement, I see that you are being sleeved in a few days. Congrats! Yes my emotions have leveled off. I only weighed once because I didnt want to get let down and you know in the beginning, its iffy anyway because you are trying to figure out what to do! So just focus on hydration and Protein intake. I dont even want to try carbs until im @ goal. When I say carbs I mean: breads, etc. Carbs slow my metabolism because I keep wanting more and more and more, etc. So you will do well. G'luck on your surgery. I pray for a speedy recovery for you.
