Does anyone else feel like this is going slower than you thought?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Carriewhite's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sometimes we expect way more than what is reality. Take it in stride. You're in this for life. -
Left shoulder pain is very common. It's from the gas they use to inflate your stomach. It goes away after a week or two. Try Gas-X and walk walk walk!

Alcohol question
LilMissDiva Irene replied to heav85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WLS people should avoid carbonation. Drinking isn't bad per se, but it can slow down your weight loss. Not only that we have to be careful about transfer addictions. Once in awhile wouldn't hurt, but if I were to choose from the two you listed I'd take the margarita. Good luck! -
Best Protein powders for a limited budget
LilMissDiva Irene replied to bucktoothzombie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the unfortunate truths about WLS is that we will spend a lot of money post op on Protein as well as our supplements. I just don't think buying forms of protein that really isn't suited for us to save a few dollars is worth it. MM is a good brand, but better ones, especially for newly op'd folks are specifically made for bariatric patients. Bariatric Advantage, Bariatric fusion, unjury are a few I use without question. Good luck! -
“The Biggest Loser:” Irresponsible Weight Loss Surgery Comments?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Well said @Alex Brecher !! Good thing there's those of us who aren't afraid to put ourselves out there and show the world what a good bariatric surgery is. Great article. -

Is surgical clearance appointment approval?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to jerseygrl6289's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Typically a surgeon doesn't schedule a surgery clearance (pre-Op) appointment unless one has been approved. Signs are pointing in that direction. But! Best to get it from the horse's mouth. Give um a call. Good luck! -
We won the appeal!

Surgery 1-16 - Learning Day by Day
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Sunshine_Gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Losing weight and major surgery can do a real number on us physically. Not to worry, your symptoms sounds normal and you did the right thing by checking in with your medical staff. Cheers to your new tummy! Keep healing well. -
Hi Petey, if I knew then what I know now, I would have waited. Be patient and only make gigantic decisions like that unless you are absolutely 100% positive of all the situations.

Energy Levels 12 Days Post Op
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Rebecca Jo Ragon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are lacking a lot of nutrients right now. It's impossible to get everything you need in 450 calories for the day. Be sure you're getting all of your supplements in as required along with doing good with your protein and fluids. Believe it or not, getting up and walking around often helps too. Probably not at the moment it's time for you to get up but after you will have some energy. Sublingual B-12 is super helpful as mentioned above. But not only that, get your multi-vitamins in with minerals, get some electrolytes with your fluids and maybe bump up your protein a bit. -
Lactose intolerance
LilMissDiva Irene replied to BloomingLotus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My lactose intolerance lasted at least a year post op. However, after a few months I was able to drink small amounts of Lactaid milk. It's real milk, they just remove the lactose out of it. Good luck! -
Well now isn't that just awful of him?!? Here's what I think, I think he's using a scare tactic on you to prevent you from going hog wild and doing damage to how far you have come. Ever heard of a "food funeral"? Well that seems to be a thing to do pre-operative. Most think that they will never be able to eat this again, or that. It's a lie! Don't believe that. You will be able to eat everything eventually after you're healed. I'm not saying that he's bluffing though. I believe he absolutely will cancel your surgery if you don't at least come to your surgery day without a loss of some kind. So, take it for what it is. Sounds like he's a good surgeon and he knows pre-op behaviors. Work hard to lose more weight. Keep in mind that you have everything mapped out and you cannot fail.

Yes it is a good option. I never used it though, I didn't like the taste. But lots do, so don't let my one opinion stop you.

Who is a “Success Story”? I’ll tell you…
LilMissDiva Irene posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I am. You are. He is over there… and she is too. Everyone reading this article is a success. Being a success has nothing to do with how much weight you have lost. It isn’t determined by your tape measure. It’s not proclaimed by everyone on your buddy list. You are a success as long as you wake up trying and go to bed planning to fight tomorrow. Who is a “Success Story”? I’ll tell you… I am. I just realized it at this very moment. I mean, I’ve always known… but it never really hit me in my gut (no pun intended) until right now. What I have been searching for, for so long – ten years now to be exact. That is when I really started getting into the health and fitness community. It was when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and I was scared enough to change my life. I’d recently lost an Uncle when I was diagnosed, due to complications (many tormenting and painful years of it) of this horrible disease also known as “The Silent Killer”. And from there I was set to change my life, forever. Fast Forward many years to 2011. That was the height of my health and fitness and going into 2012 until I blew out my knees. I created a thread here called “Bariatric Surgery Do’s and Don’ts”. In case you have not seen this thread yet, here’s the link: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/194624-bariatric-surgery-dos-and-donts/ Well, little did I know at the time of creating that thread that today it would become the Top Most Liked Post here at BariatricPal.com – now you might be wondering what the heck that thread has to do with this magazine article? Well, here it is: what you do today will someday have a profound effect toward your distant future. Have you heard of the “Butterfly Effect”? Well it’s exactly the same idea. Tomorrow you may not even notice the results of yesterday’s decision make, but one of these days – maybe next week, maybe not until 5 years from now but you will realize the finality of your decision. That’s not all though, back in 2007 I finally realized that I needed help. I started to research Weight Loss Surgery on Google. Well those searches lead me here. I mean, back then it was called LapBandTalk. My, my… has it grown since then! Since that time I have had 2 revision surgeries due to complications but I know there is absolutely no way I wouldn’t have gotten through all of it without the support of this website. I am forever grateful to the Site Owner, he (Alex) has been a true blessing for me. In that time I have become somewhat of a Bariatric Community leader, both here and abroad. It’s special to me because making that tiny Google Search was the first flutter of my wings to now. Even being a Global Moderator here and writing my very own magazine articles. I am so thankful for the opportunity to express myself the way I believe I am meant to. Even though I am fluttering all over sharing my story, I always know where my home is. Life is not all wonderful however; you have to be just as prepared for the results of your bad decisions too. If you’re choosing to binge for several days your result will show up on your next weigh-in. Just like if you chose not to make your house payment for a few months, you can scar your credit report for maybe an entire decade of your life... it’s the same idea. So again, if you woke up this morning with the idea that you are going to at least try… then you are a success. Your results may take time to catch up to this truth (you just need to have faith and practice patience) but it will come about. -

blood work
LilMissDiva Irene replied to ktbbailey77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ktbbailey77 They will most likely give you a complete blood panel including fasting for your pre-operative testing. Also, most surgeons do a nicotine test as well because it is believed smoking can hinder healing and cause ulcers. -

The bad news is there really isn't much you can do about preventing hair loss. Majority will experience this. But the good news is you can take things such as Biotin to help it re-grow. I take 5,000iu almost every day. My hair grew back fast and very strong and healthy. Good luck!

@@Chale1990 Yes I had really extreme nausea post op VSG. Maybe there is something your surgeon can give you for that. You definitely don't want to vomit up all your fluids. You need to get down whatever you can. Call soon so they can help you. Good luck!

@@blashlee Hi there and welcome to the rest of your life! WLS has been both a blessing a somewhat of a curse for me at times. But the best thing I've learned in this is that I am much stronger than I ever imagined. If you need a friend, I'm here! Cute pup too. I have some Maltese that I just adore.

Anyone Use Fitness Pal?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Karma J Riddell Henson's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes I've been using My Fitness Pal for years. It's a great logging tool and it's free. -
Okay, you mentioned the IV so I mistakenly thought you were still in the hospital. It wouldn't hurt to call in a question to your surgeons office. Take care!
