Thanks for all of that! They have their own facility the surgeries are done in, which saves a lot on cost. I will be sure to get it all in writing so I don't encounter what your friend did. As far as the price, he has been in practice for like 35 years, so when I say he's not trying to make hand over fist, that's why. And honestly, if one doc gives me a price with my insurance that is more than another's price cash pay, I would say she is making bank. Whether it's bc of her insurance and education cost makes no difference to me. Experience and reputation will win me over.

So I just went for a second opinion. UNREAL!! This guy charges 5grand for the TT WITH Lipo. That's less than the other doc wanted to charge with insurance. They are going to submit a pre cert today to see what will be covered but I am going with him regardless.
1st doc- $10,000 for TT no lipo
$6,000 for TT with insurance paying part
2nd doc $5000 for TT with lipo (no insurance)
Waiting to see what amount insurance will cover.
I don't think I am going to find a better price and I am hoping if I can't afford the TT that he will give me a little freebie if I do the panni. Lol.
This guy is older, board certified, and patient choice award. I don't think he's in it for the money anymore like the younger doctor I saw first seems to be.
Please oh please let this work out!!

I feel the same way about the price. It's like I will do the pani but it's not going to look good unless you agree to the TT. I'm thinking I won't go with her regardless of what the others say. She is obviously in it for the money.

I don't know if anyone is even reading this... But it's almost 72 hours post-op. I took off all my clothes for DH to take pics after I bathed. even with the swelling, I'm amazed at how I look.
My tummy is rock hard which is weird... I know it will relax as it heals.
My right drain has had no measurable output in more than 24 hours. I just emailed the Dr to ask is it ok to leave in place til next Wednesdays appointment. I also have 1 stitch that is a ill puckered. Not sure if it's due to swelling or not.
I took a percoset at 8pm despite not being in much pain. I spent most of yesterday sitting up on the couch and did a lot of twisting & turning to stay in comfy positions. I was concerned I'd be sore in bed. I slept well for the most part.
I weighed myself naked. Put drains on a hook on the door trying to not have them in the measurement. It was 143.8. Not too bad if I say so myself.

I just got back! She wants to charge $6000 for the rest of the TT. Initially the TT was $10,000. I will not pay the $6000. I can't afford it and if I add my deductible into the cosmetic costs it's almost the same as paying outright. I have 3 other opinions to go to this week. So now I need to research getting just the pani done. I will update again after my other consults.

he would likely need workup to see if he could tolerate anesthesia. diabetes can be managed through the surgical process, but each of his doctors will be able to tell him, based on his pre op testing, what his risk factor is so together they can make the best decision. best of luck!

I am a diabetic and had the sleeve done 6 weeks ago and have gone fro, 4 injections a day of insulin pre-surgery to just one post-op. My numbers are great and I am expected to eventually be completely FREE of diabetes down the road. I also have high BP and am taking a half dose of meds and perfect numbers at this time. Hoping to get rid of sleep apnea and toss out the cpap machine with more weight loss. Tell your dad to go for it!! It's about his life!!!

I have COPD, on oxygen 24/7, no spleen, gout issues & AFIB. My family was worried about whether I could deal with surgery. I came thru with flying colors. I feel so much better already. So glad I did this. I would make sure your dad has a very good surgeon. Also, my PCP was in favor of this surgery. I am 70 & he has other older patients who have had this surgery & done very well. My PCP is both my internist & cardiologist.

I started my journey on June 18, 2012 at 334.9 lbs, I was a very sad and sick woman who was not living, just existing. Well fast forward 6 months and I weigh 233 lbs (101 lbs), everything about my life has changed! I am loving my new life, enjoying my new body (so is my husband, he's like a kid on Christmas morning - every day!) and I love it! Thank you to Dr. King in Oxford, Mississippi, your my hero! The pictures below speak for themselves, the first two are before and are the most I ever weighed, the first one is the saddest I was ever in my life! The last two are last week (Dec 11) and I still can't believe it's me!

    Feb 2012, 345 lbs

May 2012, 334.9 lbs (surgery day weight)

    Dec 11, 2012, 234 lbs

Fit2btied got a reaction from barbb3 in Considering the Sleeve? DO IT!
I have been meaning to come and post for so long but hadn't had the time. I want anyone who is considering the Sleeve to stop worrying and just do it. I am almost 9 months out and have lost close to 130#. It's not an easy road by any means but when people say it's the best thing they have ever done for themselves, they mean it. I always thought they were nuts to say how much they loved their sleeve, but it's a life saver.
I started at 278 pounds, 5'8" and just like most people I had tried everything in the book to lose weight. When you get to a certain point it's just so difficult and discouraging to stay on track. July 8th will be my 9 month and I am now at 157 pounds. My inital goal was 170, but now I keep changing my mind as the weight comes off. Right now I am loosing a little less than a pound a week. That's just fine by me! Thinking I would love to be 140 but I don't feel that's a realistic goal to maintain for the rest of my life.
It was just a year ago that I had decided to look into weight loss surgery. I wanted the Lap Band and went into my surgeron with only that thought. I felt it wasn't permanent and I could remove it if I wanted. Well my mind was changed in 1 consult and honestly I am so glad he didn't go with what I wanted just to have the $$$.
I know there are so many wonderful people on here to talk to, but if anyone has anything they would like to discuss with me, I am all ears. I wish more people had the opportunity to get this done and covered by their insurance. It changes your life!!!

I am not going to say that you shouldn't be scared, we are all scared! I have 4 kids as well, but a little bit older. I am telling you, forget the worry as long as you have a great team working on you everything will be great. The only pain I had was from my incisions, and I am the biggest baby in the world. No pain tolerance what so ever going on here. I think I used the pain pump twice and they finallly un hooked me. You will have a rough first month or two but not because of pain but learning how to eat and getting in your fluids.
This site is 100% truthful. You have obviously done all your research. I would do this again in a heartbeat. You have made the hardest decision to go ahead with the surgery. You should embrace that next week is the start of who you will be on the outside, the person you already are on the inside.
There are only a handful of people who know about my surgery. I didn't even tell my husband until the day I was going in for it. He thought I was having my gallbladder removed..lol It's not anyone's business if you don't want it to be. Please pm me with anything you want to know. I will even give you my number to text me. You can do this!!!

Fit2btied reacted to Ginger Snaps in How the heck do you keep your carbs under 50 when a banana is 30 carbs?!
My surgeon has the rule "Don't drink your calories"... and even though it may make a Protein shake tolerable, I think adding a banana to it is adding too many calories / carbs.
I'd go along with the other suggestions -- if it's the banana taste you like, try banana flavored Protein shakes. Or, eat all your Proteins first and then have part of a banana after only if you have room and are still hungry.
It's the same thing as drinking fruit juice -- you can consume a lot more fruit juice than if you just ate a piece of fruit. The additional bulk of eating the food instead of drinking makes a big difference on feeling full.

YES… Stress can stall weight loss. I have dealt with this challenge prior to getting sleeved. I was able to loose 65 lbs with low carb high Protein diet and hit a terrible stall when I was very stressed. The stressors affected my life for over 6 months and I did not loose another pound. I gained about 10 lbs over that 6 months and "justified" this as my body balancing out despite the diet. I went off the diet and gradually gained another 10 lbs. Then my PCP changed my thyroid medication and I gained all the weight plus another 10 lbs (getting to 265 lbs) Thats when I decided it was time for bariatric surgery.
Now when I get stressed and see the scales stall…. I try to be calm, take a deep breath and tell myself that I am in control of the choices I make so, think, pray and choose what will be best for me.
