  1. Mashed up with a fork and mayo added......is it a mushie or does it have to be blended in a blender to be considered a mushie?

    Vomiting after surgery?

I threw up a ton because I was so swollen liquid would not go down period. I had to go on IV drip with cortisone. I am ok 1 week post op now. I hope I did not damage the band

    bleeding gums anyone?

Just to put your mind at ease, my mouth acts up when I go very low carb. My gums get sore and bleed. This is just something I have noticed about me over the years. Check with your dentist for sure.

    Ugh post-op emotions!

I hear you! I was banded one week ago. I had complications the day after surgery where I could not even swallow my own spit. I am so nervous about more complications, that I can't get excited over the future. To top it all off, my anti-depressants are too big for me to swallow and I have not taken them in a week. My nerves are frazzled! The good thing is, I have moved to full liquids and doing good. I think we have to take it one day at a time and firmly believe things WILL get better. Soooooo....you are not the only one LOL! Things are rough right now and I guess they call it bandster hell for a reason! Trust that things will get better and try to think positive thoughts! Sending well wishes your way
  5. I posted on Thursday that I was having trouble drinking my water post-op on day of surgery. Well during the night I became unable to swallow even my own spit. I ended up in emergency Friday morning and have been on IV and cortisone for 3 days. I was pretty much swollen shut from the operation. I am finally home and have to stay on clear liquids for a few more days. The good thing is I have not been hungry and am satisfied from a few spoons of jello. I asked the doctor how often he has sees someone swell up so bad and he said about 2 in every hundred. The last resort would have been for him to go in and unbuckle the band, but thankfully I have avoided that for now!
  6. I got my band today and feeling pretty good. I am trying to drink water, but having to drink super slow to avoid pain and throwing up. Is this normal? Any suggestions to get it down easier? I am drinking room temperature water. Instructions for today is water only and I have not had anything else.

    Apples

I used to peel them, then put in microwave with tiny bit of water for about 2 minutes. Then I would spray with "I cant believe its not butter spray" and sprinkler cinnamon and splenda on them. Turns out soft and tastes a bit like apple pie. Yummy low cal treat!

Found my new chip like snack

Just a question though....are you satisfied with one serving (or maybe less) now that you are banded? I know I would end up eating way more and maybe the whole box. Just asking because my band day is tomorrow and I still have no idea how band life is. Is this what I have to look forward to? Thanks for the chip alternative...I will have to try them once I start eating solids again!

    Soda dreams?

I was under the impression soda is BAD for bands??
  10. Wow thanks for the reminders/warnings. I am recalling that I threw up over and over again after I had my gal bladder removed because of the anesthesia. My surgery is very soon and I will tell them for sure! The thought really did not cross my mind until I read this!

Too tight? Or is this typical?

By the way, it was not even Nana who posted those stats in the first place. Just FYI.

Haha, love the popcorn eating munchkin! Sooooo cute!

Too tight? Or is this typical?

I only see her as someone who wants to help, honestly.

Too tight? Or is this typical?

WOW I can't stand the anger that is going on here. As an outsider it looks pretty bad. I don't think Nana has done anything wrong and has answered questions no differently then anyone else. I feel like there are a lot of bullies on here and not sure if I want to be part of this anymore.

Too tight? Or is this typical?

Thanks NaNa, this is what I suspected. Being a person who is not banded yet, looking at the statistics is a bit scary. Statistics are great but there are many variables. Thanks for the list of things NOT to do.

Too tight? Or is this typical?

Those statistics look pretty bad. Correct me if I am wrong, but in my opinion, the statistics are being dragged down by the paitients who were either, not ready, not serious or not educated in band usage. Also being dragged down by the fact that the older bands and sugical procedures were inferior? I believe the statistics could be much better if all of those (and maybe more) issues above were addressed and under better control?

This is weird.. I can eat

Wow, I am surprised at some of the doctors out there. Mine gave me VERY detailed and informative package on everthing from the schedule of introducing food, to what to eat and how the band works, how fast to eat, what to avoid, pre-op instructions, post-op instructions etc.etc.

Too tight? Or is this typical?

I am not sure why it went off the rails in the first place. I think all the advice here was generally good My surgeon says to wait 45 seconds before drinking and I have also read, don't drink during meals at all....not for 30 minutes before and after. I think there is still a lot of learning to do when it comes to the band, even the surgeons don't necessarily agree with each other. p.s. sky blue

    Thought it would be hard

    pranayama

Honestly I have never heard of it, and judging for the lack of responses....I don't think anyone has . I dont see why not (if it is just deep breathing), but check with your doctor if you feel unsure about it.

    onelander baby!

Good job! and thanks for the encouragement! I am being banded in 9 days by the same doctor! I heard he places 3 mils in the band at the time of surgery is this true? How do you feel?

    work

I am worried about the same. I am getting banded in two weeks. I have a very active job and do a lot of running around. Have you been taking your proper Vitamins and eating enough protien? Sorry that's my only input because I am not at your point yet!

Wow! Great job! You look wonderful and happy!
  24. I quit smoking (thats one of the reasons I gained weight) So I guess thats good. My doc calls for mushies only during week two, then soft food on week three. No solid food until week 4. All docs are different, but be careful!
  25. Hi, sounds like you are happy and doing well. May I ask how you collapsed your lung and it was your fault? I want to try to avoid that after my surgery if at all possible LOL.
