  1. So Friday night I had two of my granddaughters overnight. One is 13 and the other is 9. Well I took them out to dinner, as grandma's house does not have much food! While sitting waiting for them to eat, I did not eat there, but my 9 year old granddaughter Jessica piped up and said "Grandma your butt's getting smaller!" After I got through laughing I thought well that's cool because kids speak such truth. My guy friend had told me I was losing my fine white a@@! But when my granddaughter commented I knew it must be!

40 lbs. to goal weight, help!

My best suggestion is track all you eat, if you bite it write it! Also a good workout routine will help as well, and most of all mix it up! Both food wise and working out, our bodies are funny if you give it the same thing everyday it knows to expect it and will not burn as well as when you mix up your routine. Keep your body guessing is a very good thing. It has worked for me, I lost 176 pre banding and 24 pounds the first month of having my band, I do not weigh between doctors visits so I won't know for another week how I have done this month. Good luck to you!!

    port site

I can feel mine, but it's not that deep. I had lost over 170 pounds prior to my surgery and the doctor said that was why. They said many are in as far as 4 inches, but mine can be felt quite easily.

    pubis area

My PC sent me to a surgeon as I had lost 176 pound prior to my lapband surgery. She said it would take care of it. I decided to wait till I lose more for my surgery.

    weight gain

Don't beat yourself up. As you add more foods to your diet your weight will go up and down, but it will level out best thing to do is stay away from the scale! My PC ask me not to weigh at home, she said I could come by the office and weigh anytime I want. Home scales just are not always our friend if you know what I mean. Good luck!

Sept 16th- Lap Band Removal today!

Wishing you all the best. I was told by my doctor some people have problems with the port being too deeply set, due to my weight loss before surgery, (176 pounds lost) my port is not that deep, it is rather easy to feel. But my doctor said some are in 3 or 4 inches deep making it more difficult to access.

    No more cravings?

I cut sugar out of my diet 3 years ago as well as white starches and processed foods. Your right on, after a while you crave what is good for you and not sweets any more. A very good thing!
  9. I have to say I had the support of a wonderful guy friend. My husband died 3 years ago. However I had to deal with family who was not supportive. In fact I waited till the very last to tell them, one daughter I did not tell till the day before. I was getting text messages from her begging me not to have surgery right up to being taken back to pre-op! I think her fear was losing me as well since her dad passed just 3 years ago. But now I have all the support I need from my family. I had lost 176 pounds prior to getting banded and they just felt I could do it on my own, but I knew just how fast it could come back, one or two days of not paying attention and 10 pounds would come back just that fast! This was the tool I needed to complete my journey and help me to maintain what I have lost so far, I never want to go back to 421 pounds ever! My quality of life is so much better now, I can do so much more. Life is good!

    Beef jerky

    Costco carries turkey jerky
  13. Personally I gave up soda about 8 years ago, if you take a glass of coke and put nails or a piece of meat in the soda, the soda will dissolove them! When a friend proved it to me that was the end of my romance with coke! God only knows what it does to your insides! But I did know it was because of the gas it would cause after you drink it. if it's below your band it doesn't really escape. I was told if I wanted to drink pop let it first go flat! No thanks!!

    800 calories a day?

I do zumba 5 days a week, plus a spinning class 3 days and 1 hour weight training 4 days and I swim for an hour on the days I do not do weights. I spend about 3 & 1/2 hours working out everyday. They want me to cut back but it's hard I have been doing this for nearly 3 years now. I do not want to gain back any weight that is why I got banded after losing 176 pounds. I just can't do that to my body. I do work with a trainer twice a week he keeps me on my toes!

    800 calories a day?

I do quite a heavy workout every day so I try to stay around 1000 since I burn 900+ in my workout. My doctor suggest between 1000 and 1200 a day.

What's on your goal bucket list?

I want to wear a single digit size!! I'm on 12's and 14's now so I feel it's attainable. I want my BF to get over his fear of commitment and live happily ever after. Not sure if this will happen but time will tell we've dated for 3 years and I can't imagine life without him!

    Antidepressents?

I take valproic acid ( depakote) for bipolar and they gave it to me in a liquid suspension and it is more stable than the pill was and they had to cut my daily dose on half!! That was a good thing as depakote causes weight gain! So just check with your doctor as there may be a liquid form of the medication you take.

    gallstones.????????

It is common with any weight loss program, I know I went through it many years ago. So I did not have to worry about it this time around.

    Had my consult

Personally I would get a second opinion. When i saw my surgeon I was willing to hear what she had to say, I had been told that she was anti banding, but she felt with the good nutrition and workout habits I have I would be very successful with the band. I had lost 176 pound prior to getting my band. Bottom line is it's your body and you should be able to decide what you want to do. The sleeve and by pass work by malabortion I have a friend who got a sleeve done a year and a half ago, yes she lost the weight however it has really aged her, she is 15 years younger than I am and she looks older! I have no regrets getting banded not at all. Good luck.

    Unsweetened Tea

My doctor only allows one cup of regular coffee daily so for the most part I avoid it and stick to herbal teas and I use a little agave in it. I've really got stuck on Peets hibiscus C blend its very good!
  21. Quaker caramel flavored pop chips. 110 calories for 13 pieces. Also the special K chips with some humus for dipping, yummy!!
  22. My doctor had me mix mine with milk to add 8 more grams of protein. It really made a difference so you might check and see if you can do that.

Any suggestions on good work out gear?

I wear yoga pants and a t shirt. But it's best to wear what ever is most comfortable for you. When you go to the gym you see all sorts of gym wear, but my best advise is what's comfy for you will work best for you!
  24. I didn't go through that, you see I got my wake up call almost 3 years ago when I nearly died from my weight. A doctor with no bed side manor woke me up with his very blunt and to the point truth. Thus I never got the chance to morn or say good bye to all my food friends! Guess it was the best way for me, I;m not real good with good bye's! But I totally understand what you are saying. Good luck!!
  25. I wish I could tell you more, I am a military widow so I do not have that issue to face. I'm sure it will not be a problem but it is surely something to explore. Good luck!
